The Crucified
November 19 @ 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm

Filmed in 1921, this classic silent Czech film offers a fascinating, if troubling, representation of Jews and antisemitism in 19th Century Europe. Tormented by his childhood memory of his Jewish mother being crucified during a pogrom, her illegitimate son, now a student, is determined to find out what has happened to her. This recent restoration, accompanied by newly commissioned electronic music from Dizzock & False Trance, enhances the film’s unsettling and atmospheric qualities.
Boris Orlický, Czechoslovakia 1921 (restored in 2020), 59 mins. Czech intertitles with English subtitles.
Cast: Karel Lamač, Nataša Cyganková, Alexandr Šuvalov.
