New Show – British Standard Time
October 18, 2018
On October 18th, Alex Webb (of Cafe Society Swing & A Portrait Of Cannonball) and Jo Harrop, presented their brand new show, “British Standard Time” at award winning South London club, The Hideaway.
They have a swinging hot band, featuring Alex Webb, J Darwish (bass), Pete Adam Hill (drums), Alex Hitchcock (tenor) & James Copus (trumpet)
“Velvet-voiced Jo Harrop and pianist/arranger Alex Webb present an evening of British songwriting at its best. From the jazz-era masters Ray Noble and Eric Maschwitz to musical theatre writers like Antony Newley, Leslie Bricusse and Lionel Bart, from the pop giants Lennon & McCartney to Elvis Costello, and Amy Winehouse, Harrop and Webb mine a rich seam of material and present it in a cool, contemporary jazz format.”
Expect classics like ‘These Foolish Things’, ‘The Very Thought Of You’, ‘As Long As He Needs Me’, ‘Who Can I Turn To’, ‘Norwegian Wood’ and ‘Almost Blue’ as well as forgotten gems by John Dankworth and Victor Feldman plus some carefully-chosen originals and a couple of surprises.
They’ll be part of the London Jazz Festival this year, playing at The Elgar Room in the Royal Albert Hall, with quartet featuring Will Barry & Alex Hitchcock, on November 22nd, & then playing a lunchtime jazz festival special triple bill, at the 606 club on Sunday 25th November.
At Christmas time, they will be joyfully returning to Ushaw College (20th Dec) & The Sage (21st Dec) with the wonderful Paul Edis ensemble, for the second, very jazzy Christmas concert. Tickets are on sale!
