The Long Play Sessions: Christmas Down The Rabbit Hole Book Festival

Last week, we announced Christmas Down The Rabbit Hole, a day-long festive celebration of music, literature, and the creative spirit in collaboration with White Rabbit Books at ICMP Queen’s Park.

New additions to the day include Bill Brewster and Richard Norris from The Grid, who will be appearing as one of the DJs later in the evening.

Here’s a focus on some of the musicians, writers, and performers appearing on the day.

Youth is one of the greatest producers of the past four decades, celebrated for his work with Killing Joke, Kate Bush, The Orb, The Verve and countless others – will discuss his extraordinary career as an innovator in both the underground and in the highest reaches of the charts, with cult novelist and fellow esoteric traveller, David Keenan.

David Katz has written several classics on reggae, including the authorised biography of Lee Scratch Perry, People Funny Boy. David will be in conversation with Dennis Bovell MBE, a bona-fide legend of the UK scene as producer, DJ and musician, about his most recent White Rabbit publication, Dub Revolution: Jamaica’s Sonic Innovators and the Birth of Remix Culture

Co-author of the all-time classic, Last Night a DJ Saved My Life, Bill Brewster chats with Smokin’ Jo, the pioneering DJ whose CV reads like a ‘Who’s Who of House’ from Trade in the early ‘90s to Space in Ibiza in the late ‘90s and beyond. Still the only woman to win DJ Magazine’s International DJ of the Year (back in 1991!), Bill and Jo will discuss You Don’t Need a Dick to DJ and the challenges of being a queer female black DJ in the early years of club culture

John Doran founded the exceptionally influential online magazine, The Quietus, almost two decades ago. In May next year, White Rabbit will publish Selected Ambient Words: Aphex Twin and the Portal to Acid Cornwall.

In a collaboration with the artist Sapphire Goss, Vision Suppressant is the live audiovisual project of filmmaker Sapphire Goss and tQ’s John Doran. Their performance, ‘A Beach Of Human Teeth’ – which charts the violent and weird arrival of two Celtic saints on Cornish shores – will combine spoken word, aqueous ambient electronics and grainy celluloid reels conjuring spectres, scintillations and optical caustics, which all melt into a singular whole.

Tickets are on sale now as either day tickets (for the daytime programme of events) or day & night (including DJ sets)
