The Pioneering Pensioners

March 27, 2025 @ 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

£22.38

Mick Fowler and Victor Saunders are now officially pensioners, with Saunders in his early 70s and Fowler in his late 60s. Despite being at a point in life when most people are hanging up their boots, the pair are still as excited as ever for exploratory climbing.

In 2024, the pair travelled to the Pakistani Karakoram where, over seven days, they made the first ascent of the spectacular Yawash Sar (6258m), a beautiful peak sometimes referred to as “the Matterhorn of the Khunjerab.”

Even more impressively, Fowler, a cancer survivor, made the climb (which included a night spent hanging from the side of the mountain in their harnesses) while wearing a colostomy bag.

For one night only, they join us at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) to discuss their latest climb, their enduring partnerhsip and their future plans (because they aren’t stopping yet!)
