The screening is part of the Made in Prague festival organized by the Czech Centre.
The friendship of two volunteer firefighters who more often quench their thirst than put out fires, is put to the test when, during Easter celebrations, a van crashes into the village fountain and the driver is nowhere to be found. Convinced of a terrorist attack, lonely widower Brona grabs the opportunity to prove his worth and protect his community. Turning the fire brigade into a militia he is hell bent on capturing the terrorist refusing the voice of reason provided by his friend Standa and his pregnant wife. Full of irony but also empathy and understanding the director gently mocks the fear of the unknown and conspiracy theories, such as the clandestine dispersal of chemical substances which can only be eliminated by vinegar, while providing an affectionate and humorous look at human weaknesses. A brilliantly acted, compelling comedy that pays homage to Forman’s The Firemen’s Ball.
