Work of the Devil was the show that stood Simon Evans’ previous quarter century of stand-up on its head. Simon was and remains an immensely popular and highly respected stand-up comedian, known for his trademark, sardonic and mischievously contemptuous attitude towards received wisdom, identity politics and the liberal consensus. But with extraordinary revelations arriving following a DNA test in 2018, Evans was forced to reappraise everything he’d previously taken for granted about his place in the world. He and his fans still regard it as probably his finest hour, and many have described it as one of the most extraordinary stand-up shows they’ve ever seen.
