Viddani (Devoted) is a musical play, a celebration, a contemplation and an interactive performance in one, told through Ukrainian folk singing.
The story of Viddani is autobiographical but set at the time inspired by old Ukrainian folk and village wedding ceremonies.
It asks the questions: can soft power, such as love, truly be stronger than anything else? Can it break through the pain of the world? Can it heal? Would you choose to leave paradise in exchange for the ability to make your own choice?
Viddani has three main characters: Svitla, her beloved Shum and “Narod”, a character played by 3-5 people, who move and speak as one and represent circumstances, society, culture, family and responsibilities – everything external that our characters must face to make their life choices.
The play has very little dialogue in English & Ukrainian and translations of Ukrainian songs will be available to audiences.
