Shuyi Alice Wang transforms the body into a living sculpture in a durational performance presented by Zarastro Art during Frieze Sculpture.
(no) Pause: Living Sculpture is a durational outdoor performance presented by Zarastro Art during Frieze Sculpture 2026, exploring how life continues through constant motion and daily repetition.
Developed from Wang’s ongoing work (no) Pause, this outdoor iteration focuses on its living sculpture, bringing the work into direct relationship with the landscape of Regent’s Park and the wider context of Frieze Sculpture.
Rooted to a single patch of grass, Shuyi Alice Wang moves continuously within a translucent geometric structure. The feet remain in place while the body pivots, folds, and extends outwards. The wearable form extends each movement, following the body without ever completely obeying it. Wind redirects its surfaces, while changing daylight continually alters its transparency, reflections, and shadows.
There is no music or composed soundtrack. The work unfolds through breath, physical effort, shifting material, and the sounds of the surrounding park. Actions return, but no movement can be repeated in exactly the same way.
From a distance, the figure may appear fixed and monumental; encountered over time, it is never actually still. When the performer leaves, the flattened grass remains as a temporary trace of a living, moving form.
The exact location within the English Gardens will be announced ahead of the performance.
