Maria de Rudenz – Gothic Opera

This Halloween, Gothic Opera is staging the UK premiere of the bloody, spine-chilling tale Maria de Rudenz by Gaetano Donizetti at the atmospheric Battersea Arts Centre. The opera will be fully staged, with a cast of exciting young singers and a new arrangement for the chamber orchestra. Maria de Rudenz is inspired by an episode of Matthew Gregory Lewis’s quintessential gothic novel The Monk, which tells the story of deceit, murder, betrayal, and resurrection from the dead. It premiered in 1838 in Venice.

Sung in Italian with English subtitles.
