HATCHWORK 25 – A Showcase of Boundary-Pushing Creations by Emerging Hip Hop Creatives

BirdGang Ltd, the award-winning UK-based creative company specialising in hip-hop dance theatre, proudly presents HATCHWORK 25, an evening showcasing innovative new work from emerging movement architects. The performance, which represents the culmination of an intensive 360-degree two-week residency for eight artists, takes place at Stanley Arts on Saturday, February 1st, 2025.

Supported by Stanley Arts, Idlewild Trust and Arts Council England, HATCHWORK 25 continues BirdGang Ltd’s mission of championing the next generation of choreographers by offering eight selected artists a platform to explore and share experimental pieces with the public for the very first time. During the residency, participants engage in workshops and receive mentorship from BirdGang Ltd’s industry-leading Movement Architects and Directors. 

With guidance from specialists in sound, lighting, set design and business development coaching, the artists delve deep into the creative process, honing their craft and gaining tools to shape the future and legacy of their work.

HATCHWORK 25 is more than just a residency; it’s a unique opportunity for artists to immerse themselves in the creative process, experimenting with diverse methods and pushing the boundaries of dance with an introduction to film and immersive technologies. BirdGang Ltd’s goal is to provide these artists with a platform, mentorship, and resources they need to envision and expand their artistic journeys.

The event includes two showcase opportunities:

1. Public Performance—On Saturday, February 1st, 2025, guests can witness fresh work, engage with emerging talent, and provide valuable feedback that supports the artists’ growth.
2. Industry Showcase – An “invite only” sharing day on Monda,y 3rd February 2025, designed for venues, producers, and programmers to discover and support new talent, fostering connections that can help propel the selected artists’ careers.

The HATCHWORK programme reflects BirdGang Ltd’s commitment to fostering innovation in hip-hop theatre and multidisciplinary art forms, giving participants access to extensive mentorship and the space to experiment with new mediums and techniques. Since its inception, HATCHWORK has evolved as a launchpad for artists, empowering them to develop groundbreaking work that contributes to the ever-evolving landscape of hip-hop theatre and the performing arts.
