The London Gem & Mineral Show is back and packed with fascinating highlights for geology enthusiasts, families, and anyone intrigued by the science of Earth’s treasures. Taking place on November 23rd and 24th, this event is an immersive experience featuring rare fossils, stunning crystals, hands-on demonstrations, and exclusive talks by industry experts.
WOW Rocks: Live Cracking Station: A standout attraction, this live demonstration will allow visitors to see ancient Jurassic fossils and dazzling geodes unveiled for the first time. Seasoned experts will perform rock-cracking, revealing beautiful formations and fossils preserved for over 180 million years.
Demo Hub: Visitors can get creative by crafting their own gemstone and silver jewellery and learning from skilled artisans about mineral techniques used in jewellery making. It’s a rare opportunity for hands-on learning and crafting.
Learning Lab: This educational space offers workshops covering the scientific principles behind mineral formation and geological processes. Led by geologist Luisa Hendry, the Identification of Rocks and Minerals workshop lets attendees handle natural rock and mineral samples, explore mineral hardness, and learn classification techniques. Visitors gain unique insights into rock formation and mineral properties for a small additional fee.
WOW Talks – A Series of Expert Discussions: The event’s signature talks feature prominent speakers from the world of mineralogy and gemology:
Isaac and Sofia Andreou, stars of Outback Opal Hunters, will offer insights on opal mining and identification and showcase rare opal specimens.
Jolyon Ralph, founder of the mineral database Mindat.org, will discuss global mineral identification and how the platform aids both amateurs and professionals.
Sarah Caldwell Steele, a gemologist, will dive into the history and scientific lore of the gemstone Jet in her talk, Vampires, Mummies, and That Old Black Magic: The Legacy of Whitby’s Jet.
Justin Prim, an expert gem cutter, will share the technical and artistic aspects of transforming rough stones into stunning gems.
Geology Vibes will spotlight Pakistan’s growing gem market, highlighting how technological advancements shape the industry’s future.
Supporting a Cause: This year, The London Gem & Mineral Show partners with the Kimbilio Congo Children Trust, which provides sanctuary, education, and opportunities for children formerly working in hazardous cobalt mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo. A portion of the show’s proceeds will support this cause, helping to transform young lives.
