The celebrated Chilingirian Quartet perform Haydn’s unusual B minor quartet from the Op.33 set, alongside one of the highly expressive and dramatic quartets by Juan Crisóstomo Arriaga, sometimes called ‘the Spanish Mozart’, who died young in 1826.
Their concert ends with Schubert’s ever-popular A minor quartet, often named ‘Rosamunde’ after the play for which Schubert wrote famous incidental music, and from which some of the quartet’s material is derived.
