Chasing Parasites: The Science Behind the Leishmaniasis Scar
February 25 @ 6:30 AM - 7:00 PM
Event Navigation

What if a single insect bite could leave a permanent mark — not just on your skin, but on your life?
Leishmaniasis affects hundreds of thousands of people every year, yet rarely makes the headlines. On 25 February, VALIDATE — a global vaccine research network based at the University of Oxford, funded by the UK Medical Research Council and the Gates Foundation, and connecting over 1,000 researchers across 80 countries — will host a free public talk at the Royal Institution.
Dr María Adelaida Gómez is an internationally recognised leishmaniasis researcher based at CIDEIM in Colombia. Drawing on frontline research and cutting-edge science, she will explore how this disease scars lives — and how researchers are working to prevent it.
We welcome anyone curious about science, medicine, and global health.
