Short Com Film and Animation Festival 2026
London 23rd – 27th September
Peckhamplex + Theatreship
The quintessential comedy short film festival, Short Com returns with another bumper programme of the finest and funniest live-action and animated short films from around the world. The latest festival edition has 53 selected short films from around the world. With 22 films from home-grown talent, 25 animations, and over one third of selected films directed by marginalised voices.
Alongside emerging directing, writing and performing talent. The programme features some shorts made by or featuring some of the best cult directors, writers and performers in comedy. Such as Napoleon Dynamite co-writer Jerusha Hess, who directs Your Daughter Clytnyann; Mr Inbetween director Nash Edgerton, and Thunder Road writer-director and star Jim Cummings, who features in the short Disc.
We’re super pleased to say that we are returning to everyone’s favourite retro cinema, Peckhamplex, where we open up the festival with back-to-back screenings on the evening of Wednesday the 23rd September. We will open up with a focus on some of the best comedy shorts by homegrown talent, followed by ‘Comedy Fever’ as we screen some of the wildest and out-there shorts as part of the festival selection.
Then on the 26th and 27th of September, we’re doing something we’ve never done before. Screening on a boat. That’s right, you can climb aboard The Theatreship in Canary Wharf and have the unique experience of watching films on a boat that was built in 1913. It’s had quite the upgrade since then, with a converted theatre space, bar and exhibition space. On the 26th, we will have a double bill of Mixed Nuts, some live-action shorts from the programme and Funimation, a curated selection of our animated shorts. And on the 27th, we will be celebrating the best new comedy films by women and LGBTQ+ filmmakers. We’ll be organising some networking for the 26th and 27th.
With over fifty short films to watch across four screenings, there’s something for all comedy tastes. From whimsy to weird, light to dark, and shorts with heart.
Tickets for each screening are now on sale. You can dive into the programme for the festival here. You can discover the line-up for each screening on the Short Com website front page, where you can also find ticket links. We’re proud to say that tickets for each screening are affordable. Tickets for The Theatreship are currently set at an early bird rate.
Short Com is synonymous with finding the funniest new films and championing emerging comedy filmmaking talent. They are a BAFTA- and BIFA-qualifying film festival, and have helped to programme for the BBC and Academy-qualifying film festivals. Many of our alumni have gone on to be BAFTA and Oscar-nominated or winning. As well as many directors going on to direct some of the biggest comedy TV shows and make their debut feature films.
