SUMMARY:The House - Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:IMT Gallery presents The House\, an exhibition of works by Tom Clark\, Guest-Host-Guest\, Harri Harrison\, Heiðdís Hólm\, Mark Rohtmaa-Jackson\, Anna Sebastian\, Kristina Stallvik and Suzanne Treister. It features work that all\, often through degrees of autobiography\, speaks to some of the discordances of being at home: perhaps the anticipation of order amidst the everyday; or an expectation of comfort\, often amidst insecurity or tension. \nThe exhibition is a place where we might live. Often\, when visitors come to this gallery\, they ask her if she lives here. They ask\, “Do you live here?” They ask\, “Are these your cats?” I lived here once too. I don’t anymore. This exhibition is about living somewhere. Perhaps it is about reaching for this thing. \nIn the words of Guest-Host-Guest: ‘Here\, the house is a metaphor for assumed belonging. A place we are expected to be ‘resolved’ or ‘satisfied’\, even when displacement\, precarity\, and contested ownership sit just beneath the surface.’ \nThe exhibition is a hand with a mirror in front of it. The mirror reflects some flowers or a field. Behind the hand is a sky. In front of the sky is a blank\, featureless wall. All these things at various distances from the camera. A cat; a home; a gallery; a municipality listed on a birth certificate (since burned). The house. \nCurating at Home: Making Personal Spaces of Creative Agency\nOnline Course with Dr Mark Rohtmaa-Jackson \nApril – May 2026 \nOrganised to coincide with The House\, join us for a four-session online course exploring how we live with art\, and how the art we live with shapes the way we live. \nHeld fortnightly\, Curating at Home: Making Personal Spaces of Creative Agency invites you to look closely at the rooms\, objects\, and artworks that surround you. Drawing on art practices\, histories\, philosophy\, exhibition-making\, and practices of everyday attention\, we will explore how meaning is shaped through arrangement\, context\, and the lived rhythms of domestic space. \nLed by artist\, educator\, and curator Dr Mark Rohtmaa-Jackson and hosted by IMT Gallery\, each session brings together case studies\, creative exercises\, and guided activities designed to help you think with and through your own environment. \nPlaces are limited — the course begins 12 April. Click here for full course detail \n_ \nPictured: Anna Sebastian\, detail of ‘Esalon’ (2024)\, oil on canvas\, 100 x 100cm \nSuzanne Treister is represented by Annely Juda Fine Art\, London\, P.P.O.W\, New York and The Ryder\, Madrid.

SUMMARY:Noisy World - Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:With simple line drawings of ordinary objects and mundane moments\, Perfect outlines an alternative vision to the competitive pursuit of perfectionism in modern society. \nAs though retrieved from a surreal flower press\, people\, plants and vessels are presented flattened and slightly out of shape; multiple minimalist selves cross architectural and art historical references; impressions of unrelated scenes captured on paper. \nWith each drawing a gentle act of rebellion\, against colour theory and perspective\, against hierarchies between foreground and background\, humans and things\, Noisy World celebrates the humane and humorous aspects of everyday life. \nGallery opening hours:\nSaturdays 10 am – 4 pm\nSundays 12 noon – 4 pm

SUMMARY:Desire to Create: Baťa's Architecture of Belonging
DESCRIPTION:The Czech Centre London\, in collaboration with the Tomáš Baťa Foundation and the Bata Heritage Centre\, marks the 150th anniversary of Czech entrepreneur Tomáš Baťa\, founder of the global Baťa Shoe Company\, with an exhibition exploring his achievements\, guiding principles\, and their realisation in East Tilbury. It reveals how ideas about work\, culture\, sport\, health and community were embedded in the design of the built environment. \nThe exhibition unfolds in two complementary strands. Desire to Create presents Baťa’s legacy as a comprehensive philosophy\, uniting work with service\, enterprise with education\, and personal development with responsibility towards others – not as a relic of the past\, but as a continuing source of inspiration. Baťa’s Architecture of Belonging brings East Tilbury to life through architectural drawings\, historic photographs and original artefacts\, evoking its distinctive modernist atmosphere. Together\, they trace how ideas were translated into built form – from vision to planning\, from planning to everyday life – creating a cohesive narrative of belonging\, work and community. \nOrganised by the Czech Centre London in partnership with the Bata Heritage Centre. \n\nEXHIBITION OPENING\nThursday 9 April 2026\, 6.30 – 8.30 pm\nFree entry\, Register Here\nEXHIBITION DATES: 10 April – 12 June 2026\nVENUE & OPENING TIMES\nVitrínka Gallery\, Czech Centre London\n30 Kensington Palace Gardens\, London\, W8 4QY\nOpening hours: Tue – Fri 10 am – 5 pm

SUMMARY:The Friends of Holland Park Art Exhibition 2026
DESCRIPTION:This spring\, The Friends of Holland Park once again turns the Orangery at the heart of the park into an art gallery. \nFor more than forty years\, Friends who are artists and artists who become Friends have come together to show and sell their artwork. The colourful presentation of works by more than 80 predominantly local artists ranges from greeting cards and small prints to large paintings\, from pieces of jewellery to ceramics and sculpture \nA jury led by curator and artist Gordon French awards cash prizes for artistic excellence in several categories as well as for work that best expresses the Spirit of Holland Park. Visitors can support The Friends of Holland Park by buying a work from the exhibition or by entering the raffle for one of the tempting prizes donated by local businesses. \nEvery year\, one artist is offered a dedicated feature wall for a more extensive presentation. This year\, The Friends invited Gordon French to provide a mini-retrospective of his own creative practice to thank him and his family for organising the art exhibition for the past 12 years. \nThe concept of holding an art show at the heart of Holland Park was introduced by Christopher Wood and the late Sir Hugh Casson\, renowned architect and former President of the Royal Academy\, during their respective tenures as Chairman and President of the Friends of Holland Park. \nWorking in close liaison with the local borough and park staff\, The Friends of Holland Park is a local community group dedicated to the preservation\, protection and improvement of Holland Park as a place of historic and ecological interest and beauty. \nThe exhibition is sponsored by The Ilchester Estates\, which is fitting as the Ilchester family were the last private owners of Holland House.

The colourful presentation of works by more than 80 predominantly local artists ranges from greeting cards and small prints to large paintings\, as well as jewellery\, ceramics\, and sculpture. \n  \nA jury led by curator and artist Gordon French awards cash prizes for artistic excellence in several categories as well as for work that best expresses the Spirit of Holland Park. \n  \nThe concept of holding an art show at the heart of Holland Park was introduced by Christopher Wood and the late Sir Hugh Casson\, renowned architect and former President of the Royal Academy\, during their respective tenures as Chairman and President of the Friends of Holland Park. \n  \nWorking in close liaison with the local borough and park staff\, The Friends of Holland Park is a local community group dedicated to the preservation\, protection and improvement of Holland Park as a place of historic and ecological interest and beauty. \n  \nThe exhibition is sponsored by The Ilchester Estates\, which is fitting as the Ilchester family were the last private owners of Holland House.

SUMMARY:LANDE HEKT + THE POPGUNS + MUMBLE TIDE
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents….. \nLANDE HEKT\nTHE POPGUNS\nMUMBLE TIDE\nSunday 19 April\nMOTH Club\, Old Trades Hall\, Valette St\, London\, E9 6NU\n7pm | £13.50 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/f4d01f8d742e \nLANDE HEKT has quietly become one of the UK’s best underground songwriters. On her 2021 debut full-length\, Going To Hell\, and 2022’s House Without a View\, she explored her queer identity\, sobriety\, and childhood trauma through the lens of heartfelt\, conversational indie-pop\, which led to spots opening for the likes of Alvvays\, Throwing Muses\, and The Beths. Her new album\, Lucky Now\, written and recorded with producer Matthew Simms (Wire\, It Hugs Back)\, reflects the most mature and confident version of Lande Hekt yet. “I’m not as concerned about how I’m presenting myself\,” Hekt says. “I’ve tried to think less about how things are coming across\, and just write songs that make me feel connected to myself and what I value.”\nHekt’s musical touchstones – The Wedding Present\, The Sundays\, The Replacements – remain the same\, but at the same time\, she’s delved deeper into other influences. Lucky Now is indebted to 1980s twee-pop and jangle-pop like The Pastels\, Tallulah Gosh and The Bats\, as well as to more modern iterations of the sound\, such as Autocamper and Jeanines\, in its ecstatic\, soaring melodies and gorgeous\, tactile guitars. The sound is fitting for Hekt’s new lyrical outlook\, where\, though despair and anxiety rear their heads\, she digs deep to find the gratitude. During the album’s recording\, Hekt also moved from Bristol back to her hometown of Exeter. In a lot of ways\, Lucky Now is about return – return to joy\, return to places and parts of the self once left behind. Who you once were can seem unreachable\, but sometimes you can build a bridge. \nhttps://landehekt.bandcamp.com \nTHE POPGUNS are an indie pop band formed in Brighton in 1986\, known for their melodic sound\, chiming guitars\, and the vocals of Wendy Morgan (now Pickles). Often associated with the late 80s/early 90s indie scene\, they achieved success with singles like “Landslide” and quintessential albums ‘Eugenie’ and ‘Snog’ before a hiatus. In 2012\, the band resumed live performances with six gigs. A three-track 7″ single\, “Lovejunky”\, was released in late 2014\, followed by a new album\, ‘Pop Fiction’\, on Matinée Recordings. Soundblab ranked the album at Number 2 on their Top 10 Releases of the year. The band have continued to tour and record new material\, and released the single “So Long” in May 2017\, followed quickly by the album ‘Sugar Kisses’.\nhttps://thepopguns.bandcamp.com/ \nMUMBLE TIDE is a Bristol-based DIY indie-pop duo formed by vocalist/lyricist Gina Leonard and multi-instrumentalist/producer Ryan Rogers. Known for their “scrappy” bedroom-pop sound\, the former couple creates music that blends grunge\, folk\, and electronic elements. Inspired by the free-flowing rhythms of 60’s American folk\, the aim was to find a balance between Roger’s vivid arrangements and Leonard’s evocative lyrics\, one that truly captured the bittersweet depths of their songwriting. The group’s debut album\, ‘Might As Well Play Another One’\, was released last year on Breakfast Records. \nhttps://mumbletide.bandcamp.com/music

SUMMARY:The Queen and the Playwright: A Royal Visit at the Prague Castle
DESCRIPTION:The photographs by Czech photographer Alan Pajer capture the historic and intimate atmosphere of HM Queen Elizabeth II’s visit to the Czech Republic\, which took place 30 years ago\, in March 1996. \n\nHer host was the then President of the young country\, former dissident\, prisoner of conscience\, and playwright Václav Havel\, and with him the whole Czech nation. \nSet against the optimistic backdrop of the 1990s\, in a country enjoying its first years of freedom after the fall of the Communist regime in 1989\, the Queen’s visit was a significant moment. Although sharing many important moments of courage and solidarity throughout history\, the two countries had been officially separated for decades by the Iron Curtain\, as Sir Winston Churchill famously named the ideological barrier between Soviet-controlled Eastern Europe and the democratic West. In reality\, however\, it was not only an ideological divide\, but also a very real physical barrier\, marked by barbed wire\, border fortifications\, and strict controls that limited movement between East and West. \nAnd it wasn‘t all just protocol when this heavy veil was finally lifted. Queen Elizabeth II and President Havel not only exchanged state orders\, but also discussed private topics\, such as their shared love for dogs. The Queen and her husband\, HRH Prince Philip\, did not miss the opportunity to walk over the famous Charles Bridge to cross the River Vltava\, and even met some Churchill fans on the way. The visit also followed earlier visits and a long-standing interest in Prague and its cultural heritage\, shown by the then-Prince Charles. Famously\, the Queen demonstrated her well-known respect for people when she decided to visit not only the capital city of Prague\, but also the Moravian hub of Brno. \nThe visit also brought some important closure. The Queen addressed a sensitive moment in Czech-British history\, when in 1938\, Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain signed the Munich Agreement\, which stated – against the will of the Czechoslovak government – that the bordering\, mainly German-speaking parts of Czechoslovakia would become part of Nazi Germany in the hope of appeasing Hitler. It was a failure which still resonates today. \nAlan Pajer (b. 1948) was one of the photographers of the Czech presidential couple since 1996\, capturing historic diplomatic moments of the newly established Czech Republic\, which came into existence in 1993 after the peaceful break-up of Czechoslovakia. \n„In this century\, my country actively supported the creation of the first Czechoslovak Republic under President Masaryk\, which had such a tragically short existence. The events that brought it to an end are the only shadow over our relationship\, and I understand and sympathise with the feelings in this country over the Munich Agreement\,“ the Queen said in Prague in 1996. Her visit is retrospectively seen as an important milestone in fulfilling the Czech ambition to join NATO and the EU. When it finally happened (in 1999 and 2004\, respectively)\, it was widely understood as a full democratic recovery for the Czech Republic. \n  \nOutdoor exhibition on the fence of the Czech Embassy\n26 – 30 Kensington Palace Gardens\, London W8 4QY\nFree access 24/7          \nOrganised by the Czech Centre in partnership with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in the UK.

SUMMARY:DEAR NORA + TAI HAF HEB DRIGOLYN
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents… \nDEAR NORA (DUO)\nTAI HAF HEB DRIGOLYN\nWednesday 22 April\nThe Lexington\, 96-98 Pentonville Rd\, Angel\, London\, N1 9JB\n7.30pm | £12 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/F39394c4d08b \nDEAR NORA is an ever-evolving indie-pop band fronted by songwriter/producer Katy Davidson\, and features a rotating cast of collaborators. Davidson was born in Arizona and has also lived in Oregon and California. The energy\, intensity\, and vastness of the western United States landscape imbue the songwriting and recordings. \nDear Nora has existed in two distinct eras – 1999-2008 and 2017-present – with a roughly decade-long break in the middle (the “Lost Years”)\, during which Davidson fronted various side projects and played session guitar/keyboards in the bands YACHT and Gossip. Dear Nora’s early music leans more toward pop-punk\, DIY\, confessional\, and youthful. The contemporary music leans more poetic\, expansive\, genre-bending\, and wise. The through-lines between Dear Nora’s two eras are: melodic hooks\, vocal harmonies\, and lyrics about time\, space\, capitalism\, the internet\, daily life vérité\, ancient things\, real vs. unreal or surreal\, and all kinds of relationships. \nPartially because Dear Nora’s early years happened before the rise of smartphones and social media (prior to hyper digital documentation)\, and because very little content survives this era aside from the analogue recordings\, the group is often described as “legendary” (as in\, “legend/myth”). Rediscovered via streaming platforms and word of mouth\, Dear Nora’s music has influenced many young songwriters. \nhttps://dearnora.bandcamp.com/ \nTAI HAF HEB DRIGOLYN are a band from Wales. Built atop of a DIY Ethos\, THHD have a fantastic ability to merge their musical brain with real life surroundings\, perfectly represented by “Ein Albwm Cyntaf Ni” recorded straight onto tape directly sampling the sounds that they recorded over. It’s rare for music this genuine and human to arrive with this quality and quantity; this is a special act that has to be seen to be believed. THHD are obsessed with the Elephant 6 collective\, and as such have members spread across the country; they also stumble in the footsteps of R. Pollard and D. R. Edwards. \nhttps://taihafhebdrigolyn.bandcamp.com/

SUMMARY:Fanfares for Leoš Janáček\, with special guest Jakub Hrůša
DESCRIPTION:An evening devoted to the electrifying late music of Leoš Janáček\, marking 100 years since the premiere of his jubilant masterpiece\, the Sinfonietta. \n\nConductor Jakub Hrůša\, writer and broadcaster Nigel Simeone\, and leading Janáček scholar Jiří Zahrádka explore the composer’s extraordinary creative surge in the final decade of his life. From his transformative meeting with Kamila Stösslová in 1917 to the radiant\, defiant energy of works like the Sinfonietta\, the discussion traces how personal passion and an unmistakably original musical language combined to produce some of the most compelling music of the 20th century. \nInterwoven with musical examples and personal reflections\, this is above all a celebration of Janáček’s enduring voice – alongside the launch of two new publications: Janáček’s Sinfonietta by Nigel Simeone and Jiří Zahrádka (Boydell\, 2026) and Káťa Kabanová and The Cunning Little Vixen: Janáček’s New Lease of Life by Jiří Zahrádka (Host\, 2026). \nJakub Hrůša is Music Director of the Royal Opera\, Covent Garden\, Chief Conductor of the Bamberg Symphony and Music Director Designate of the Czech Philharmonic (from 2028). Born in Brno\, he has been an ardent champion of Czech music around the world. The production of Janáček’s Makropulos Case at Covent Garden in 2025 has been nominated for an Olivier Award\, and many of his recordings have won international recognition\, including the Gramophone Opera Award for Káťa Kabanová at the Salzburg Festival. His complete cycle of Bohuslav Martinů’s symphonies will be released later this year by Deutsche Grammophon. \nNigel Simeone is a writer and broadcaster with a lifelong interest in Janáček. He is the author of several books on the composer including The Janáček Compendium (2019) and he is co-author the standard catalogue of Janáček’s works (1997). He appears regularly on BBC Radio 3 (Record Review\, Opera on 3\, and the Proms)\, and has written programme notes for the Royal Opera House\, London Symphony Orchestra\, Salzburg Festival\, Glyndebourne Festival and others. \nJiří Zahrádka is Director of the Janáček Archive in Brno and a musicologist. He is the editor of critical editions of many works by Janáček including the Sinfonietta\, Taras Bulba\, Káťa Kabanová\, The Cunning Little Vixen and The Makropulos Affair\, and he is the author of several books on Janáček including acclaimed full-length studies of the operas\, most recently Káťa Kabanová and The Cunning Little Vixen. \n\nAdmission: £5 (+ Eventbrite fee)\nBOOK NOW
