DESCRIPTION:Music Halls Project is very proud to present Samantha Whates and Ida Wenøe lives at The Sanctuary\, Greenleaf Road Baptist Church. \nAs Ida Wenøe & Samantha Whates made their way around the UK on their first co-headline tour in early March of 2020\, it was clear something weird was happening around them\, the radio in the tour bus was talking of nothing else\, the chat at the merch table was becoming more and more about one thing\, audience starting to question whether to come to shows which they had been anticipating attending for months. \nDespite the rumbles of imminent lockdown\, Ida and Samantha played right to their last show\, and a few days later\, we were in our homes for over a year. The music stopped.\nIda and Samantha will be heading out again in March 2022 to do it again\, but with bells on! They have been working hard to make a fantastic show of brand new\, never performed material and collaborating on new arrangements of older favourite songs! Expect beautiful harmonies\, a multi-instrumental element played by the pair and perhaps some special guests along the way too! It’s how it was but even better! This will appeal to fans of Ida Wenøe & Samantha Whates!

DESCRIPTION:Music Halls are very proud to present Maroon Town.\nWhen eight-piece Maroon Town first started 30 years ago\, they were the first ska band to mix ska and reggae with rap\, funk and Latin to produce a fresh new sound with conscious and uplifting lyrics.\nJohn Bradbury of the Specials produced their first album and singles. These recordings propelled the group to get the attention of the international music community. They led to extensive touring in Europe\, Japan and South America\, and we are so excited to bring them to Walthamstow and The Sanctuary at Greenleaf Road Baptist Church.\nSongs have been synched to major Hollywood films; the band became the recipient of the UK’s most important sponsorship deal for an independent band with £100k from Dr Martens\, 27 inmates broke out of a Jamaican prison hours after a performance inside the jail!\nStill\, at the cutting edge of creativity\, their latest album ‘Freedom Sound’s released on the Spanish label ‘Brixton Records’ in 2018\, blends conscious reggae\, jazz\, Big beat ska as well as an up-tempo ska collaboration with renowned Basque Country reggae\, rock and ska singer Fermin Muguruza. (Spain\, particularly Catalonia and the Basque Country\, has long been a touring destination for the band).

DESCRIPTION:Revive Live and Music Halls are proud to present Kadialy Kouyate\, and Muntu Valdo live at The Sanctuary\, Greenleaf Road Baptist Church.\nKadialy Kouyate draws on his heritage and traditional songs to create his own mesmerising compositions\, leading his fantastic band into the West African groove. Kadialy Kouyate’s kora playing and singing style\, both as a soloist and in different ensembles\, have been appreciated in many prestigious venues\, including the Royal Festival Hall\, the 02 Arena\, the National Theatre\, the Royal Albert Hall and Clarence House. Kadialy has also played venues and festivals worldwide\, touring Europe\, Australia and North America.\nSawa blues is the term Muntu Valdo himself has coined for his own music. Many songs’ roots have a rhythmic and melodic sensibility that flows from the rich wellspring of timeless Cameroonian folk music. Still\, this base is enriched by a wide range of idioms part of the African Diaspora\, from Brazilian samba to American soul and jazz.

DESCRIPTION:Luzmira Zerpa is a prolific Venezuelan singer/songwriter based in UK\, who has performed internationally as a solo artist and toured extensively throughout Europe with her band Family Atlantica (Soundway Records). She played with Manu Chao in the Sahara Film Festival\, and has presented three times at the Royal Albert Hall hosting the most important Latin American Artist such as Juan Luis Guerra\, Seu Jorge and Buena Vista Social Club. \nLuzmira has performed at many of the most prestigious venues in London: Barbican\, Round House\, Koko\, King Place\, Royal Academy of Music\, Jazz Café\, Bolivar Hall\, Earth. In Europe she has played at Elbphailarmonie (Hamburg)\, as well as International festivals including Glastonbury\, Womad and the World Music Festival in Udaipur\, India. \nLuzmira’s music blends traditional\, folkloric music from Latin America with world influences\, including Afrobeat\, blues and jazz.

DESCRIPTION:For our second  – EFG London Jazz Festival show we’re delighted to host innovative Polish pianist and composer Joanna Duda and her trio present music from the highly anticipated album ‘Fumitsuke’ using acoustic instruments (piano\, double bass\, drums) together with electronic sounds and self – made samples. \nJoanna Duda Trio is a project including acoustic instruments (piano\, double bass\, drums) together with electronic sounds and of self – made samples. The music idea is to improvise in very consistent way – focus on the moving\, rhythmic irregular motives as little independent beings in themselves; all together melted into one piece searching for collective consciousness in every single moment. The concept of the band is to sound like one organism\, creating narration using layers\, not solos in a straight meaning. \nJoanna Duda is a pianist\, composer and visual artist. She does not avoid the apparent ugliness of dilapidated instruments and looks for sound aesthetics where it seems to be lacking. Here projects include solo work (album KEEN Alpaka rec. 2019) and Joanna Duda Trio. She has also been a member of the Wojtek Mazolewski Quintet since 2008. \nThis event is supported by Polish Cultural Institute. Thank you!

DESCRIPTION:Iona Fyfe (Scotland\, UK) \nRooted in the singing traditions of Aberdeenshire\, Iona Fyfe has quickly become one of Scotland’s most celebrated young folk singers. Having spent her early years learning from local singers of bothy ballads (songs traditionally sung by farm labourers in the northeast region of Scotland)\, Iona became the youngest ever winner of Scots Singer of the Year at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards in 2018. \nSimon Leleux (Belgium) \nSimon Leleux is a Belgium-based percussionist specialising in doholla\, darbuka and other Arab and Middle Eastern percussion instruments and styles. Shaped like a tumbler\, the darbuka provided the starting point for Simon’s percussion journey and his interest in many other instruments\, including frame drums\, tombak\, riqq\, and drum kits. Simon has focused on studying the doholla (bass darbuka)  \nAzin Zahedi (Iran / Germany) \nBorn in the Iranian capital Tehran\, Azin Zahedi began playing the flute at the age of seven and took up the santoor (Persian dulcimer) four years later\, winning first prize at Iran’s National Festival Youth Music in 2007.  \nRobert Bisha (Albania / Italy) \nRobert Bisha\, originally from Shkodra in northern Albania\, is a pianist\, improviser and composer who plays an array of other instruments\, including accordion\, çifteli (a stringed instrument found in Albania and some surrounding countries)\, frame drums and guitar. While much of his music is improvisatory\, with avant-garde and jazz leanings \nThamires Tannous (Brazil / Austria) \nThamires Tannous is a Brazilian singer and songwriter. She hails originally from Mato Grosso do Sul in the central area of Brazil\, home to the world’s largest tropical wetland\, the Pantanal. Her style blends the musical heritage of her home state with contemporary Brazilian music. It occasionally pays subtle homage to the heritage of her Lebanese family\, who settled in Brazil two generations ago.  \nLiz Hanks (UK) \nLiz Hanks is a cellist\, composer and collaborator based in Sheffield. While she has worked with an impressive array of high-profile artists across many different genres\, she is particularly drawn to folk\, Indian classical\, and other music traditions.  \nAhmet Ozan Baysal (Turkey / UK) \nAhmet Ozan Baysal is a Turkish bağlama (saz) player\, composer and performer\, specialising in şelpe – an Anatolian bağlama performance technique that dispenses with a plectrum. Having played the instrument from a very early age\, much of his music synthesises traditional bağlama şelpe performance practices and harmonic practices in tonal and jazz music.  \nBrigitte Hart (Australia / UK) \nBrigitte Hart is an Australian sound artist working across performance and installation. Currently based in London\, her practice explores relationships between voice\, objects\, histories and ecologies. She often engages with text\, environmental sound recordings\, remnants and archives.
