SUMMARY:The quantum revolution in science and technology
DESCRIPTION:Dive into the science and the latest technology of quantum behaivour. \nModern research instruments can measure spectacularly small changes of length\, time or energy. They use the quantum behaviour of atoms and light to achieve their extraordinary sensitivity. These devices help scientists to learn more about the very smallest of things – for example the shape of the electron – and also the very large – for example how the universe began. \nNow\, the same types of instruments are starting to benefit society more generally. This Quantum Technology promises new capabilities ranging across IT security\, navigation\, medical imaging\, mineral detection\, simulation of complex systems\, and many others topics. \nIn this lecture Professor Edward Hinds will explain what quantum behaviour is\, and how these research instruments work. Professor Hinds will discuss the current state of quantum science\, and the prospects for transforming society through the emergence of quantum technology. \nAttending the event\n– Free to attend\n– No registration required\n– Doors open from 18:00\, and seats are allocated on a first-come\, first-served basis\n– Live subtitles will be available\n– British Sign Language interpretation will be available on request.\n– This event may be popular\, and entry cannot be guaranteed \nFor more information\, please follow this link: https://royalsociety.org/science-events-and-lectures/2019/03/bakerian-lecture/
