SUMMARY:When Vincent Met John
DESCRIPTION:Vincent Van Gogh died in 1890\, John Lennon died in 1980\, both of gunshot wounds to the chest. But imagine what might have happened had the two greatest artists of their time met? \nThis hypothetical meeting between John Lennon and Vincent van Gogh is the premise of a new play by actor and writer Nick Wilkes. We all know that Vincent van Gogh was a nineteenth-century Dutch Post-Impressionist painter and amongst the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art. We all know John Lennon was an English singer\, songwriter\, musician and peace activist who gained worldwide fame with The Beatles. \nWhat we don’t all know is that five years before their respective deaths both men went through profound change\, and this is what has inspired playwright Nick Wilkes to bring these two cultural giants together.

SUMMARY:Gary Crowley presents An Evening With The Bluebells
DESCRIPTION:Gary Crowley presents An Evening With The Bluebells \nBBC London presenter Gary Crowley returns to The Exchange with another of his ever-popular evenings of conversation and music. This time featuring an acoustic trio from renowned Scottish band\, The Bluebells. \nFollowing an interview with Gary\, the trio will treat us to a set that draws upon catalogue of hits spanning over 40 years. \nThe Bluebells \nInitially The Bluebells enjoyed a whirlwind career spanning the early 1980s with a recording output including three UK hit singles. “I’m Falling”\, “Cath” and “Young at Heart”\, made with a procession of producers including Elvis Costello who became a mentor and teacher to the band. Guitarist and ex-fanzine publisher Robert Hodgens (aka Bobby Bluebell) wrote instantly memorable classics in collaboration with the two McCluskey Brothers who completed the Bluebells’ essential troika and Kenneth McCluskey sang them in a likably unaffected voice\, making every track count. \nWith the release of their debut album “Sisters” in 1984 on London Records\, The Bluebells toured widely in Europe and North America developing their live sound and signing to Seymour Stein’s Sire records in the U.S. \nRobert and the brothers parted company amicably in 1986 with Ken and David forming and releasing records as the McCluskey Brothers whilst Robert concentrated on song writing duties for various other artists including Texas and the late Sinead O’Connor\, as well as his own group The Poems. \nIn 1993 when “Young at Heart” hit the U.K. No 1 spot following its use as a TV advert for Volkswagon\, the chaps met up for some fun Top of the Pops appearances. \nThe Bluebells are very pleased to be playing again\, having recently received two premier Scottish Music Business Awards including “The Tartan Clef Award for Song Writing” at the star studded Nordoff–Robbins charity annual fundraiser at Glasgow Barrowlands. Following the re-release of the Classic album repackaged “Sisters” album on the Last Night From Glasgow\, The Bluebells were encouraged by the label and fans to record new material which has manifested itself in the excellent new album “The Bluebells In The 21st Century” released in April 2023. \nCherry Red have also compiled a 34 track bumper CD of the Bluebells “Sisters” containing all of the favourite recordings alongside some rare out-takes from the London records catalogue. \nBobby\, Ken and David are currently performing a variety of acoustic gigs as a three piece and as a full six piece line-up augmented by Campbell Owens (Aztec Camera) on Bass\, Douglas MacIntyre (Love and Money/Creeping Bent Organisation) on Guitar and Mick Slaven (Bourgie Bourgie\, Paul Quinn\, Del Amitri) on lead Guitar. \nGary Crowley is an English broadcaster\, TV presenter and DJ. While still at school in the late 1970s Gary Crowley founded the new wave fanzine “The Modern World” interviewing many of the most significant bands of the day including The Sex Pistols\, The Clash and The Jam. \nOn leaving school in 1978 Crowley took up a junior position at Decca Records before joining the staff of the NME\, taking over from Danny Baker as the telephone receptionist at their offices in Carnaby Street. At this time the weekly music paper was at the centre of the post punk explosion. \nCrowley’s knowledge and passion for music attracted the attention of broadcasters and in 1982 he was hired by London’s independent commercial station Capital Radio\, and aged 19 became the youngest radio DJ in the UK. Throughout the 1980s Gary Crowley became a prolific broadcaster / promoter\, hosting regular club night where he showcased many prominent chart acts at early points in their career\, including The Style Council\, The Bluebells\, Wham! and others. TV presenting followed and he was the main face on programmes such as Earsay\, ReVid\, Poparound and The Beat through the 80’s and 90’s. \nGary has worked within the music industry in many guises but his true love and passion is radio broadcasting. He continues to present the Saturday early evening show on Radio BBC London. \nThis year saw the follow up release “Gary Crowley Lost 80s 2” to the acclaimed Top 40 compilation ‘Gary Crowley’s Lost 80’s’ which again is another eclectic collection of under the radar gems from major 80s names as well as those who got away. \nA long time champion of new music\, he’s given many new bands/artists their first taste of radio exposure\, with the likes of Suede\, Dodgy and Bush in particular all going onto bigger and better things.

SUMMARY:Nerina Pallot – The All Roads Lead To Tour
DESCRIPTION:Nerina Pallot – All Roads Lead To Tour \nNerina Pallot is one of the UK’s most quietly extraordinary singer-songwriters. Across eight albums\, she has built a body of work that is deeply honest\, musically adventurous\, and completely her own. A Brit and Ivor Novello nominee\, she’s collaborated with artists as commercial as Kylie Minogue\, yet it’s her solo work\, fiercely intimate and unflinchingly human\, that has earned her a devoted following. \nA spellbinding live performer and multi-instrumentalist\, Pallot’s shows are never the same twice. Whether she’s behind a piano or switching between guitars\, she plays with both precision and freedom\, weaving stories and humour through songs that shift seamlessly from heartbreak to hilarity. Her last major London show at the iconic Palladium sold out\, a testament to the emotional force of her live performances. \nHer haunting cover of Love Will Tear Us Apart introduced her to a new generation of listeners when it featured in the acclaimed TV series Normal People\, going viral and reaffirming her gift for reinventing familiar songs with startling emotional clarity. \nThe All Roads Lead To tour is Pallot at her most raw and direct: one woman\, a piano\, a guitar\, and songs drawn from across her 25 year career. From grassroots venues to beautiful old theatres in towns that don’t often get shows like this\, these performances are a celebration of connection\, between artist and audience\, between songs and the stories that shaped them. \nWhether you’ve been with her since Dear Frustrated Superstar or Fires\, or you’re only just arriving\, all roads lead to here.

SUMMARY:Exhibition On Screen – Dawn of Impressionism: Paris\, 1874
DESCRIPTION:A cinematic immersion into the world’s best-loved art. \nWorking with top international museums and galleries\, Exhibition on Screen creates films which offer a cinematic immersion into the world’s best-loved art\, accompanied by insights from the world’s leading historians and art critics. \nThe Impressionists are the most popular group in art history – millions flock yearly to marvel at their masterpieces. But\, to begin with\, they were scorned\, penniless outsiders. 1874 was the year that changed everything; the first Impressionists\, “hungry for independence”\, broke the mould by holding their exhibition outside official channels. Impressionism was born\, and the art world was changed forever. \nWhat led to that first groundbreaking show 150 years ago? Who were the maverick personalities that wielded their brushes in such a radical and provocative way? The spectacular Musée d’Orsay exhibition brings fresh eyes to this extraordinary tale of passion and rebellion. The story is told not by historians and curators but in the words of those who witnessed the dawn of Impressionism: the artists\, press and people of Paris in 1874. See the show that changed everything on the big screen.

SUMMARY:(the) Woman - London Theatre
DESCRIPTION:M is a woman. M is a writer. M is a mother. \nCatapulted from the crest of a hit play and hijacked by motherhood – the wild nights out have been replaced by evenings in with baby and a breastpump. Suddenly M is burnt out\, angry\, lonely\, unsure and\, quite frankly\, terrified of the future. \nShe wants to tell her story\, her way. But\, everyone around her shares their opinions on who she is\, who she should be and how she’s f*cking everything up. \nFrom award-winning writer Jane Upton\, this 2022 Bruntwood Prize shortlisted play is relatable\, funny and a painful scream from the abyss of early motherhood.

SUMMARY:Since Yesterday: The Untold Story of Scotland’s Girl Bands
DESCRIPTION:It is a celebration of talent\, perseverance\, and sisterhood. \nIgnored by the industry and deprived of the global success afforded to the male-dominated bands of the day\, Since Yesterday: The Untold Story of Scotland’s Girl Bands is a celebration of the women and the music of yesteryear and a rallying cry to the female talent of tomorrow. \nBlending personal anecdotes with a scrapbook-style audiovisual aesthetic\, Since Yesterday takes us on a decade-by-decade adventure\, crafting the ultimate visual mixtape. Discover unheard demos\, lost archives\, and rare performances that celebrate the Game Changers\, Trailblazers\, Popstars\, Post Punks\, and Pioneers who never compromised and subsequently got lost in time. \nThe film critically examines the barriers women have faced in making music in the past and still face today. It asks how we can inspire young women to make music if those who do so are continuously erased from our cultural history. Written and narrated by award-nominated musician Carla J. Easton\, it is a powerful global story told through a local lens. \n  \nLondon Military Bands

With staging ‘full of wolfish imagination and alarming surprise’ (★★★★★ The Guardian)\, the immersive 5.1 cinema surround sound places the audience inside the minds of the Macbeths\, asking are we ever really responsible for our actions?

SUMMARY:Beatles\, Bowie & Me – with Nicky Horne
DESCRIPTION:The personal side of music’s greatest icons.\nVeteran broadcaster Nicky Horne – (Boom Radio\, Radio 1\, Radio 2\, Capital Radio\, Talk Radio\, Virgin\, Sky\, Channel 4) was uniquely privileged to conduct in-depth and profoundly personal interviews with all four members of The Beatles and also with the enigma that was David Bowie. \nFor decades\, the recordings of those interviews were lost. But Nicky has now unearthed them and is sharing their remarkable content in a highly intimate and revealing series of theatre events\, where he will talk about those unique encounters and where the audience can ask him questions. \nNicky had many conversations with John\, Paul\, George Ringo\, and David Bowie. However\, these interviews were not the usual music industry publicity fodder; they were deeply personal and intimate encounters\, revealing the thoughts and feelings of the day’s most creative and innovative artists. \nYou’ll hear the honest and profound emotions around becoming an ‘ex-Beatle’ and get an insight into the complex yet brilliant mind of David Bowie\, from speaking to McCartney backstage at a stadium gig to having home-made cookies and coffee with Lennon in his New York apartment to skinny-dipping with David Bowie in Cape Cod. These are unique encounters that will intrigue and reveal in equal measure. \nThis show features The Beatles and Bowie as you’ve never heard them before. It is a ‘must-see’ event for any fan of their ground-breaking music and will give you a unique insight into the minds and characters of these musical geniuses. \nTribute Bands
