SUMMARY:Breaking Ground – A Regenerative Approach exhibition
DESCRIPTION:How does architecture respond to our climate and ecological emergencies? How does the urban design respond to women’s safety and community cohesiveness? \n\n\n\nGbolade Design Studio is celebrating 5years of practice\, and ‘Breaking Ground’ is set up as a provocation to the public. We are living with the consequences of an extractive design and construction system. How must we now act to become responsible and inclusive stewards of our future. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition explores five key themes using the practices’ projects which adopt sustainable and regenerative approaches to respond to some of these pressing issues in society. Themes include; city-shaping\, retrofit\, net-zero homes\, community-building\, and innovation in construction. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition itself has been designed to be as sustainable and regenerative as possible\, with recyclable boards being used and an after-exhibition reuse plan. The practice has chosen to work with local businesses and suppliers\, including printers\, plant suppliers\, and catering companies. \n\n\n\nThe venue\, The Africa Centre\, was selected due to its close proximity to Southwark Station\, with the practice encouraging all visitors to use public transport\, rather than driving\, wherever possible. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition has been designed with hopes to inspire the next generation of built environment specialists to challenge ideas of what a regenerative future might be. To this end\, Gbolade Design Studio have arranged school tours with local primary schools.
