SUMMARY:Mr Motivator Steps into Christmas Jumper Day to set a New World Record - Virtual Workout
DESCRIPTION:Save the Children is calling on people to help set a world record for most people getting sweaty in a festive sweater. \nOn Friday 10th December\, Mr Motivator’s Club will present the lycra legend himself\, leading a virtual workout dressed in his finest festive knitwear to mark Save the Children’s 10th Christmas Jumper Day. \nSave the Children and their Christmas Jumper Day partner Sweatcoin are hoping to recruit over 5\,000 people in Christmas jumpers to join the virtual workout with Mr Motivator and\, together\, set a new world record. Never before will so many people have come together to get sweaty in a festive sweater. \nThroughout the workout\, Mr Motivator will encourage donations to Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day from a Text to Donate number and an onscreen QR code. Through contributions from participants and partner Sweatcoin\, the tech for good health platform that rewards movement\, Save the Children aims to raise £15\,000. The money raised will help children in the UK and worldwide get the food\, healthcare\, and education they need to believe in a future where anything is possible. \nTo sign up for Christmas Jumper Day\, all you have to do is upcycle\, borrow or buy a second-hand festive sweater and visit christmasjumperday.org. Then\, on Friday 10th December\, head to the Game Plan for a day full of festive fun – with Mr Motivator’s workout starting at 12 pm. \nSave the Children and Sweatcoin have crunched the numbers. If the charity hits its target of more than 5\,000 virtual participants during Mr Motivator’s workout\, they are set to rack up over a staggering 3 million steps combined. That’s the equivalent of walking from London to Santa’s Lapland!

SUMMARY:Behind Closed Doors - Showcasing the work of writers of underrepresented genders
DESCRIPTION:Behind Closed Doors is an online scratch night showcasing the work of writers of underrepresented genders\, who are exploring themes of sex\, bodies and intimacy in their work.\nFeaturing rehearsed readings of four short plays\, this night will be asking how meaningful conversations around sex have opened up – are we more liberated? Or just finding new ways to take issues with our bodies? And how has the pandemic changed the way we date? \nA lot of people also still aren’t being invited to take part in this conversation around sex and bodies\, and the plays included in Behind Closed Doors will mainly look at how sex interacts with other areas of identity\, including how sex and non-Western cultures co-exist\, and how sex is discussed in non-heteronormative relationships. \nFilmed at Theatre Deli\, the night will be streamed straight to your living room as part of Theatre Deli’s LiveFromDeli programme. So you can join us online at 7:30 pm on 16 November for the launch night of Behind Closed Doors\, and the plays will be available to watch on-demand until 7 December. Tickets are Pay-What-You-Can. \nUnderrepresented genders include cis women\, trans women\, trans men\, non-binary people\, and those who are otherwise marginalised. \nThis night is staged by Lemon House Theatre\, a vibrant work that connects artists and audiences. They have previously orchestrated a double bill of shows at Bunker Theatre\, a scratch night at St. Margaret’s House\, and produced the audio series Lemon Lounge during the 2020 pandemic.

SUMMARY:ORIGINS 2021-22 Festival Opening
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we open the 2021-22 ORIGINS Festival with an online welcoming event\, including a performance of the short play KATHARSIS by Yvette Nolan (Algonquin\, Canada) – a digital love letter to a theatre left empty by the pandemic. \nThe 2021-22 Festival will offer an unprecedented and evolving year-long programme\, transforming digital and physical spaces into vibrant sites of creative enquiry and performance by leading Indigenous artists and thinkers. Informed by a decade of Festival activity\, ORIGINS 2021-22 arrives at a crucial moment for the planet. Covid-19 has clearly demonstrated the fragility of our way of life. Climate change\, which shares many of Covid’s causes\, poses an existential threat. #BlackLivesMatter has exposed the fundamental injustices that underpin the histories from which the globally dominant culture grew. These challenges are not only political and scientific\, but fundamentally cultural\, forming the three key themes that will lead the Festival’s journey of enquiry through the year ahead: \nCovid\nClimate Change\nColonialism \nFrom May 20\, we present a series of online literature events\, including the US Poet Laureate Joy Harjo (Mvskoke)\, novelist Stephen Graham Jones (Blackfeet\, US)\, poets Natalie Diaz (Mojave\, US)\, Liz Howard (Anishinaabe\, Canada) & Matthew James Weigel (Dënësųłinë́ & Métis\, Canada) & environmental writers Kyle Whyte (Potawatomi\, US) & Jay Griffiths (UK).\nAs the Festival evolves\, we will be moving to performance-based interventions in public spaces\, drawing powerful links between Indigenous experience\, local heritage and sustainability\, asking urgent questions while respecting the time and space needed to stop and contemplate the answers. \nWe hope you will join us to experience another way of living. \nExplore the current programme\, with more to be announced throughout the year. \nSupported by Beyond the Spectacle and the High Commission of Canada in the UK.

SUMMARY:Singing With Nightingales: Dawn Chorus
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate International Dawn Chorus Day with this long-form live broadcast of birdsong and spoken word. \nJoin The Nest Collective online from 11pm on 1st May for a spoken-word journey\, hosted by Sam Lee\, through some of the finest poems and writings celebrating the nightingale\, the wonder of birds and the natural world. \nThis long-form broadcast will then drift into pure nightingale song through the night and\, as the birds rise\, will culminate in the dawn chorus itself\, finishing at 6am on Sunday 2nd May. \nThis live broadcast will be available for free on Youtube. \nWe are delighted to announce the contributors for this broadcast include: \nCaitlin Moran • Stewart Lee • Satish Kumar • John Lewis-Stempel • Jackie Morris • Rob Da Bank • Anita Sethi • Melissa Harrison • Mark Avery • Merlin Sheldrake • David Lindo • David Rothenberg • Mya-Rose Craig • Patrick Barkham • Farhana Yamin • Mary Colwell • Genevieve Tudor • Jay Griffiths \nInternational Dawn Chorus Day is the worldwide celebration of nature’s greatest symphony. All across the world people rise early to enjoy the sound of birdsong\, ‘from rattling wrens in Rotherham to crooning cowbirds in the Caribbean’. \nEach year\, for a short period mid-April\, a few thousand nightingales fly to southern UK from Africa. They can be heard in just a small number of special locations\, taking up songful residence after dusk. The territorial males serenade loyally each night for no more than six weeks among the blackthorn and forest margins\, giving unbelievable privilege to those who know where to go. \nIn this modern age\, with biodiversity in decline and habitats being eroded\, the nightingale has become representative of all that we have to lose. It is a small\, brown\, unremarkable-looking bird\, but it possesses one of nature’s finest singing voices. The bird winters in Africa but spends April to July mating and nesting in Europe and the Middle East. The numbers visiting England have declined so sharply that it is now on the UK’s Red List of species at the greatest conservation risk.

Opening on March 10th\, the exhibition lives digitally on our website until March 31st \, creating access from anywhere in the world\, breaking the physical barriers that occurred due to the COVID 19 situation. Artists include Anastasiia Danilenko(Russia)\, Chara Kontopoulou(Cyprus)\, Elif Celebi (Turkey)\, Katarina Dordevic (Serbia)\, Laleh Memar Ardestani (Iran)\, Maliheh Zafarnezhad (Iran)\, Roxana Manouchehri (Iran)\, Solmaz Tohidloo (Iran) and Veronica Botticelli (Italy). \nDames aims to champion women artists in their career and give them a voice by highlighting their importance and contribution to the art world\, as unfortunately they are often still being left out of its canon. All from different backgrounds\, each carefully curated artist offers us their particular perspective of the female gaze through their diverse techniques and mediums. \nBlue Rhino is hosting a live online event with the participating artists on March 10th at 6 pm GMT. The event is open to all publics\, the Blue Rhino team will host a commentary exhibition tour\, conduct a conversation with the artists about their works\, and chair a Q&A with the public and the artists. Everyone who is joining is encouraged to have a beverage with them as we will all virtually cheer with the artists. To participate please email us at info@bluerhino.art.

SUMMARY:Festival of Culture - Carol Concert
DESCRIPTION:The final event in Barratt London’s Festival of Culture is due to take place on Sunday 13th December at 11am and will be streamed from the housebuilder’s Ridgeway Views development in Mill Hill. Following on from the Festival’s previous virtual events which have included a jazz brunch\, art class and cookery class\, the final instalment will see choir Invicta Voices perform a range of Christmas favourites. \nInvicta Voices is one of London’s leading a cappella choirs. Originally formed from University of Kent alumni\, they sing a range of musical styles and have performed at many prestigious venues across London including The House of Lords\, Kings Place\, and St Martin in the Fields. \nMatt Bamford\, Invicta Voices’ Musical Director\, comments: “Christmas is a very special time in the musical calendar. The ongoing pandemic has definitely made things more challenging for us this festive season\, but we are still trying to make the best of things and performing at virtual events\, such as this one\, is the main way we can do that. We’ve all had to adapt\, and I hope this online concert still provides some Christmas cheer for those watching at home.” \nPam Reardon\, Sales and Marketing Director at Barratt East London\, said: “Christmas is going to be a bit different for us all this year. With Christmas markets and light displays cancelled we hope that this concert will give our audience some much needed festive fun.”\nWatch the carol concert on Barratt London’s Instagram feed\, Facebook page or Youtube channel at 11am on Sunday 13th December. Recordings of previous Festival of Culture events can also be found on Barratt London’s YouTube channel.
