SUMMARY:Guest House: Unwriting the Artist’s Statement Online Workshop with Elle Reynolds
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a focused\, playful session of conversation\, making\, and discovering your own voice. This workshop creates space to build confidence\, loosen habits around language\, and allow your voice to develop naturally\, staying close to your practice rather than separate from it. \nUnwriting the Artist’s Statement invites you to abscond from International Art English and respond directly to your work. Moving away from the critical language often used to address contemporary art\, this workshop proposes different protocols for speaking about your practice to the world.  \nThrough a series of guided prompts\, improvisation\, and gentle exercises\, participants will work with revision\, association\, and a deliberate quality of randomness to develop ways of using their own voice. The focus is on speaking through the work rather than separating language from practice. \nThis is a supportive space for play\, experimentation\, and discovery. No previous experience or prepared text is needed.  \nThe workshop is hosted by IMT Gallery and led by artist Elle Reynolds\, whose practice works through collaborative processes\, storytelling\, and material experimentation. Her work explores making as a way of thinking together\, with a particular interest in shared authorship\, provisional forms\, and the social life of materials. \nOver the two hours\, you will: \n\nDevelop new ways of talking about your work that feel personal and less rehearsed\nLoosen habits around formal or institutional language\nBuild confidence in speaking and writing about your practice\nGenerate material you can continue to develop after the session\nConnect with others navigating similar questions around language and practice.\n\nAbout Elle Reynolds: \nArtist/scholarresearcherquiet disrupter\, Elle Reynolds has a background in organising practice. She continually challenges traditional institutional structures\, reimagining the use of time and space. Her art making under the pseudonym Guest-Host-Guest includes object installation\, collaborative events\, performative storytelling and interventions that unsettle the notion of archive through spatial exploration\, participation\, and the disruption of academic language. She holds a PhD investigating alternative art school spaces and serves as a Non-Executive Director and Board member of TOMA (The Other MA)\, an alternative art school in Southend-on-Sea\, Essex. Recent projects include workshops for New Contemporaries and Creative Break Time. She is currently Programme Leader of the Graduate Diploma in Art at Goldsmiths. \nThis workshop is open to all: makers\, artists\, writers\, anti-writers\, poets\, curators at any stage of their practice\, and anyone interested in finding alternative ways to speak about their work. It is especially useful if you are preparing portfolios\, applications\, or exhibitions\, or if you simply want your language to feel more natural and connected to what you do.  \nPlaces are limited to keep the session conversational and supportive—book early to secure your place. \nEarly Bird Rates are available until 29 March at 11:59pm GMT \n_\nImage: ‘Morass’ Mapping by Elle Reynolds

SUMMARY:Active Involvement in Research (AIRD) 2024: in person and online health conference
DESCRIPTION:Our annual Active Involvement in Research events bring together patients\, service users\, carers\, local people\, researchers\, health and care professionals\, and organisations in south London and beyond. \nThis year’s theme is ‘Improving health and care in south London\, shaping future research.’ \nFor several years\, Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) South London has researched how various types of health and social care might be improved and inequalities tackled. \nStaff\, public contributors\, the community\, and other partners have worked hard to successfully understand and achieve change for local people who experience a range of issues. This includes those with multiple conditions and those facing disadvantage and discrimination that affects their well-being. But many south Londoners are still at risk and face barriers to getting the treatment and support they need. \nThis year\, Active Involvement in Research will look at: \n\nWhat the focus of future work should be from April 2026 to March 2031\, if funding is available\nHow can we\, our community and other partners build on local strengths and direct limited resources to address current challenges in useful ways? This includes not duplicating what other research teams and organisations have done.\nHow can we further develop active involvement and recognise the value of lived experience in future research?\n\nThis is the second of two events. It will be held online on 18 November 2024\, following the in-person event on 13 November. \nYou are welcome to join us at either or both events to hear about thinking to date and share your views\, which will help to shape future research. Further information will follow\, but places are limited\, so booking early is advisable. \nAttendance is free\, and all are welcome. \nFind out more \n\nTo find out more about the event\, please email involvement coordinator savitri.hensman@kcl.ac.uk. You can also visit www.arc-sl.nihr.ac.uk\nPlease note: Payments will be made to public members who have agreed on a role.

SUMMARY:Supercharge Your Summer with Futuristic AI & Coding Workshops!
DESCRIPTION:British Youth International College (BYITC) Supermaths has announced that their artificial intelligence coding workshop for kids\, set for June 29th\, has received an overwhelming response. The Summer Coding AI Workshop\, hosted online\, has garnered so many sign-ups that we are now planning a second event due to the huge demand. Register now so that we can fit you in this one or the next! \n The Glasgow-based (BYITC) Supermaths has launched a mega series of free virtual summer camps designed to ignite children’s passion for computer coding\, game development\, and programming. These unique virtual summer camps offer a fun and adventure-filled learning journey to keep kids ahead this summer. \nDesigned for 8 to 14-year-olds and older\, the free workshop is a one-and-a-half-hour interactive masterclass introducing young people to AI. It includes AI projects with ‘block coding’ – a visual method of teaching coding using graphical drag-and-drop blocks. The masterclass is followed by 30 minutes of interactive quizzes\, with a medal for the winner and certificates for all participants \nThe workshop focuses on essential learning outcomes in AI\, Machine Learning\, and programming. Participants will grasp text classification\, map inputs to outputs\, and gain hands-on experience with Scratch\, mastering control structures like conditionals. Additionally\, they will develop project planning skills\, breaking tasks into manageable steps. \n“The interest in artificial intelligence coding has been phenomenal\, and the summer break is a perfect time to learn\,” said  (BYITC) Supermaths Founder and computer scientist Dr. Rashmi Mantri. “By the end of our workshop\, young participants have a solid foundation in AI and block coding\, with much more confidence and a sense of achievement.” Dr. Mantri emphasized that focusing on AI keeps young people ‘future ready’ and that the College’s coding courses are ‘tailor-made’ for schools\, helping pupils elevate their skills and explore new interests. “Coding can help children develop problem-solving skills\, logical thinking\, creativity\, and computational thinking abilities\,” Dr. Mantri said. “Coding skills have broad applications and aren’t just for kids interested in computer science.” \nBYITC’s Supermaths coding courses include: \n\nGame development with Scratch programming\nApp development with MIT and Thunkable\nPython programming\nRoblox programming\nMinecraft programming\nData science and AI Java programming\nWeb development with HTML\, CSS\, and JS\n\n(BYITC) Supermaths is based in Glasgow and was set up by Dr. Mantri in 2015. The college now runs global franchises\, including in Dubai\, Sri Lanka\, Basingstoke in England\, and recently launched its London franchise in Queensberry Northwest.

SUMMARY:TEDxHultLondon: Never Settle – Speaker Antony Gordon
DESCRIPTION:Never Settle\nHow Curiosity Did Not Kill The Cat\nTEDxHultLondon connects you with industry leaders\, entrepreneurs and creators that share their inspiring insights across various industries. \nThis year\, we decided to highlight inquisitiveness\, by reversing the saying ‘curiosity killed the cat’. Our incitement to ‘Never Settle’ encourages continuous development\, getting out of your comfort zone\, being kind to yourself\, and not settling for less. Never let your curiosity settle. On March 20th 2022\, we will celebrate curiosity. So what are you waiting for? Join us at TEDxHultLondon. \nThis sold out event is open for online guests to hear the amazing line-up of speakers including mentor\, podcaster\, and best-selling author Antony Gordon. In his talk titled “The One Change You Need for a Happier Life!\,” he’ll unpack a topic that dials right into today’s zeitgeist: how there is so much more to life than keeping up appearances. Antony’s background\, training\, and experience\, including academic excellence; the representation of some of the most prominent personalities in sport and entertainment; select training in the human psyche blended with his success as a stand up comic and raw authenticity places him in a unique position to ignite a spark in a dark world and to become the voice for a generation looking for tools and direction to navigate through the landmines along the journey of life.

SUMMARY:Comedy for the Curious: FOOD (Origins)
DESCRIPTION:Where does our food come from? No\, I don’t mean Sainsbury’s vs Waitrose. But where did it come from ORIGINALLY? What’s it’s Carbon Footprint? Don’t worry\, this is a comedy show\, but we can’t promise it won’t make you think loads. \nWith guest comedians Matt Hoss and Dave Chawner. \nComedy for the Curious is the comedy chat show where curiosity and stand-up comedy are combined. Each show comprises of three very different stand-up comedy sets all around the topic at hand. Host Robyn Perkins uses comedy to explore the science behind the theme while the comedian guests take a more light-hearted approach. The show also weaves in hysterical\, personal (and often revealing!) chat while exploring the subject further and wraps up in our outrageously silly game that has you\, the audience\, compete against the comedians!

SUMMARY:The Kraken Jellyfish - Valentine’s day dinner
DESCRIPTION:The world’s most unusual Valentine’s dinner launched in the form of an all-jellyfish tasting menu \nSharing a candle-lit romantic dinner is a time-honoured Valentine’s Day tradition. But for intrepid Valentines in search of a far more adventurous epicurean experience\, The Kraken has the answer in the form of an all-jellyfish tasting menu. A gift from The Beast\, delivering treasures from the deep to the tables of loved ones across the nation. \nCurated by The Kraken Rum\, this world-first romantic jellyfish meal comprises three courses\, each with the ocean’s most gelatinous inhabitant taking centre-stage on the plate. \nThe starter is jellyfish salad with sesame and peanut dressing; the main is teriyaki jellyfish with squid ink noodles and bonito flakes\, and the dessert is a seafood pudding of the wobbliest proportions – jelly infused with jellyfish and Kraken Rum. \nCited by scientists around the globe as the sustainable seafood of the future (due to the high number available and the specie’s unique renewable life cycle)\, the humble jellyfish has been elevated to new heights by a team of chefs to create a gourmet dinner the likes of which have never seen before on UK shores. \nEven those most squeamish at the prospect of devouring the venomous\, be-tentacled sea creature will be won over by this delicious degustation\, with every crunchy yet bouncy bite of glassy jellyfish transporting loved-up diners from their living rooms to the mysterious and bioluminescent world of the deep ocean. \nThe Valentine’s jellyfish dinner is available exclusively to experience at home. It arrives in a meal kit complete with custom Kraken plates\, an ocean projector (to recreate an underwater ambience at home) and an exclusive pre-release bottle of The Kraken’s new and highly-collectable ‘Unknown Deep’ limited-edition (the second in the collection). And although designed for the dinner table\, if diners wish to serve the jellyfish dinner in their bathtubs\, this is not discouraged. \nThe jellyfish menu will also be served with a specially crafted bioluminescent cocktail designed to bring to life the natural phenomenon of the ocean’s bioluminescence in a glass. The same pearlescent and shimmering quality is captured in the ‘Unknown Deep’ limited-edition bottle. \nThose up for a romantic night of jellyfish can look to get their hands on a kit through The Beast’s online portal\, The League of Darkness (https://www.theleagueofdarkness.co.uk/competitions/37) where they will be given away. \nOpen for entries from 9 am on 7th February until 3 pm on 9th February\, Kraken fans will need to pen their very best love letter to The Beast to be in with the chance of tasting the jellyfish. Deliveries will arrive in time for an early Valentine’s Day celebration on 12th February. \nKraken’s ‘Unknown Deep’ limited-edition bottle will also be officially launched to purchase via Amazon or The League of Darkness soon. Keep an eye on @krakenrumuk for more details. \nBravely commandeered from the gloom of the ink-black abyss\, the second limited-edition bottle from The Kraken’s ‘Unknown Deep’ collection represents a second attempted expedition to find The Beast. The bottle has a deep blue pearlescent coating with a rough\, tactile embossed finish and shimmering detail. It comes contained within its distressed diving cage – a tribute to the brave explorers. They risked life and limb by plunging to the very darkest depths to haul these mysterious bioluminescent bottles to the surface. \nHell-bent in its desire to protect the creatures of the ocean\, The Beast\, will once again be showing its compassionate side by teaming up with marine conservation charity PADI AWARE\, with £1 from the sale of each ‘Unknown Deep’ limited-edition bottle being donated to help the organisation in its mission to reduce ocean debris by half in targeted countries within the next decade.

SUMMARY:Totem Latamat: Carving a Message for Climate
DESCRIPTION:In the Autumn of 2021\, the Totonac people sent a powerful message to World Leaders gathered at COP26. That message was TOTEM LATAMAT. \nThis ORIGINS film captures TOTEM LATAMAT’s incredible 9\,000km journey from a Mexican forest to the Indigenous Elders’ COP26 camp in Glasgow and its eventual return to the Earth in Dumfries. \nCommissioned by Border Crossings’ ORIGINS Festival and carved by Indigenous Totonac artist Jun Tiburcio\, TOTEM LATAMAT encapsulated Indigenous spirituality and environmentalism. It emphasised how deeply our existence is interwoven with nature\, calling attention to the damage being done to the seas\, the land and the air\, insisting that we cannot ignore the planet’s destruction any longer. \nTOTEM LATAMAT travelled to the UK by ship and visited important cultural hubs across the country\, including London\, Coventry\, Milton Keynes and Manchester. This film highlights its impact on those who encountered it\, drawing strong links between Indigenous experience and local heritage. \nThis event is a free online film screening: register via Eventbrite to receive the online viewing link. This online premiere will have a special introduction by our Patron\, Peter Sellars.
