DESCRIPTION:Still Waters was born out of a long association and friendship going back 40 years between Henry Lowther and Britain’s premiere bassist Dave Green – the band is now one of the country’s most accomplished and creative bands.\n\n\n\nAlthough a classic quintet of two front lines and rhythm\, Still Waters plays radical and original music\, ranging from gentle\, quietly pastoral\, and melodic music reflecting the band’s name to dynamic\, free improvisation. The main thing to say about it is that it is indeed a band – not just a collection of individual musicians; in other words\, the whole is much greater than the sum of its parts. DESCRIPTION:Karen Sharp\, a multiple award winner and prominent artist on the jazz scene\, will be appearing with her long-established line-up of Nikki Iles\, Dave Green and Steve Brown – world-class musicians who also happen to be great friends.\n\n\n\nThis year the band are excited to be celebrating their 10th anniversary (postponed from 2020!) by playing some of their favourite festivals\, jazz clubs and special venues across the country. \n\n\n\nTogether they create a unique sound that is warm\, spontaneous and exciting\, incorporating free-flowing improvisation with almost telepathic ensemble playing. The quartet have recorded two albums to date\, ‘Spirit’ and ‘The Sun\, the Moon and You\, both of which include familiar\, lesser-known and original tunes showcasing the unique spirit of a band with a shared passion for strong melodies\, group interplay and respect for the jazz tradition.

The Singer’s Tale is an emotional roller coaster that is challenging and inspirational. \n\n\n\nCarol Grimes is a British singer\, songwriter\, poet and author\, a towering presence in the UK music scene; from busking in the streets as a teenager to touring internationally with the contemporary classical group The Shout and her two solo albums in Memphis\, it is safe to say Carol is a truly genre-busting artist. Having turned to jazz and blues\, her music embraces drama and love.

DESCRIPTION:Nikki Yeoh is a creative free spirit who\, although deeply rooted in the language of improvisation\, is open to a range of music that leans as much toward populism as it does high art.\n\n\n\nSince her emergence on the British jazz scene in the mid-90s\, pianist Nikki Yeoh has proved to be an improviser\, composer and all-around adventurer who has continually sought to broaden her musical horizons. \n\n\n\nAccomplished soloist as she is\, Nikki has also excelled as a composer; this is borne out by the number of very significant commissions. Among the most notable recent works is her Suite Of Seven Tunes based on the seven deadly sins\, for the internationally renowned reeds virtuoso\, John Sunman. River Spirit\, which was written for The Oxford New College Boys Choir following a commission from Oxford Contemporary Music. \n\n\n\nYeoh’s output to date reflects an irrepressible spirit of curiosity that has taken her into areas far and wide\, be it gigs with cutting edge jazz musicians such as Steve Williamson and Courtney Pine\, soul stars like Jean Carne and Roy Ayers\, or the fiercely original hip-hop group The Roots. Regardless of the setting Yeoh always shows the same degree of dynamism and responsiveness\, qualities that she has developed through both her personal research of the history of music and extensive travels in Latin America\, India\, the Far East and Europe.
