DESCRIPTION:Our Monthly Life Drawing Workshops are uniquely structured\, intended to develop the artist through a variety of creative and technical exercises aimed at unlocking individual creativity. Taught by experienced tutor Clare Grossman\, this class is suitable for the beginner and experienced artist alike. \nEach session starts with an inspirational quotation by a great philosopher\, artist or writer. The sessions feature one professional life model who will hold a variety of long and short poses. Sessions are structured by the tutor\, who is also happy to enable students to work independently too – the aim of these sessions is to build confidence and ability\, culminating in a wide variety of original drawing\, with students developing their own unique style and work. \nEach session (10.30 am & 2 pm) is 2 and half hours long. DESCRIPTION:Back for its 4th year\, we welcome any young people aged 25 & under to enter our Young Photographers Competition!\nThis is a competition for photographers aged 25 & under. This is a free-to-enter competition\, with submissions sent digitally. \nThe theme for this year is Everyday Life (to be interpreted however you see fit!) and is limited to one submission per person with a chance to be included in our Young Photographers exhibition taking place in the Courtyard this August. We will print and frame the selected works which will be on display from Wednesday 29 July – Monday 24 August. The finalists and overall winner of the competition will be announced at the private view on Wednesday 29 July from 7.30 – 9.30pm. \nTo enter this category\, please read over the rules and send your entry via the link below by Friday 10 July. \nSubmit via email \nOver 25? Check out our Photography Competition. \n———- \nPlease read the rules below carefully before making a submission. \nThis category is open for entrants aged 25 & under. \nOnly digital admissions are accepted\, and must be emailed via the link above with ‘Young Photographers Competition’ as the subject\, along with your full name\, age and the title of your work. \nOur judges will select a number of works to be included in our Courtyard exhibition. Lauderdale House will print and frame the images. At a time when community can feel especially important\, we open our doors to everyone\, whether you observe Nowruz each year\, are discovering Persian culture\, holidays and traditions for the first time\, or just want to join in. \nEmbracing the arrival of spring\, Nowruz is a 14 day tradition enjoyed for more than 3\,000 years by over 300 million people worldwide\, particularly across Western Asia\, Central Asia\, the Caucasus\, the Black Sea Basin\, the Balkans\, and South Asia. Deeply rooted in Persian culture\, Nowruz is marked by renewal\, hope and time spent together with friends and family\, especially outdoors. The Nowruz festivities culminate after 13 days on Sizdeh Bedar\, also known as Nature’s Day\, during which people spend time picnicking outdoors to keep bad luck at bay. \nWaterlow Park\, with its secret enclaves\, ponds and myriad of trees (including a Persian Ironwood)\, brings to mind a Persian garden\, and has become an important and beautiful place for local families and friends to come together. For the third year\, we are bringing the festivities inside Lauderdale House under the guidance of our Artist/Curator Mehrdad Aref-Adib. DESCRIPTION:The Maydan Ensemble traverses international bounds and genres\, creating an inclusive and irresistible sound that blends modern jazz with Arabic\, Anatolian and Persian folk music.\nThe Maydan Ensemble of the North London Jazz Collective is a fully international quintet comprising some of London’s busiest jazz musicians: the rising-star vocalist Amena from Egypt\, acclaimed Irish-Iranian jazz guitarist Kourosh Kanani\, ⁠Italian-English bassist and stalwart of the London jazz scene Lorenzo Morabito\, Londoner Robbie Ellison on drums and one the finest Iranian folk musicians in London\, Parham Bahadoran on reeds (zurna\, duduk and clarinet). \n‘Maydan’ means ‘town square’ or ‘public meeting place’. Originating in Farsi\, the word is now used across Arabic\, Turkish\, Urdu\, Kurdish\, Georgian and Ukrainian. Of course\, Monkey is Snow White’s friend and doesn’t obey the Queen’s terrible orders. \nThe woods can be a difficult place for a young girl on her ow\,n but she is befriended by some friendly but very messy Dwarves. A deal is struck\, they will look after her\, and she can be their housekeeper. All seems well until a mysterious old woman comes round selling dodgy-looking apples…. \nBarking Dog have been performing children’s shows since 1987 and began performing pantos twenty years ago. Their two actors use puppets\, audience participation\, lots of action and songs so that children of all ages can join in with all the time-honoured pantomime traditions. DESCRIPTION:For this special Jazz in the House evening\, Pete and Nick will feature their new album of original music: ‘Mercurial Indigo’ and will be joined by the great rhythm section of Andy Hamill on acoustic & electric basses (and chromatic harmonica) and  Paul Cavaciuti on drums. \n  \nThe Oxley-Meier Guitar Project\, formed by guitarists Pete Oxley and Nicolas Meier\, is a unique band that successfully melds contemporary jazz with ‘world-music’. They together create a huge variety of textures and soundscapes\, from Middle Eastern influenced music to raucous Brazilian-inspired sambas\, using an unusual range of guitars between them – including fretless nylon\, acoustic and electric 12 strings\, sitar-guitar and 11-string fretless. \nBoth are internationally acclaimed musicians and they have played all the major UK venues such as Ronnie Scott’s\, Wigmore Hall\, The Sage\, Musicport World Music Festival and the London Jazz Festival.
