SUMMARY:BATAstories
DESCRIPTION:BATAstories is a sweeping documentary driven by the voices of ‘Batamen‘ worldwide\, stories from Baťa-built towns\, and reflections from Baťa’s descendants. It traces the extraordinary rise of Czech entrepreneur Tomáš Baťa – the visionary cobbler’s son who transformed a small-town workshop into a global industrial shoe empire. \nDirected by the master documentarist Peter Kerekes\, the film weaves together three strands: Baťa’s memoir (narrated by Bolek Polívka)\, a reflection on the birth of modern global capitalism\, and a mosaic of personal stories. \nSpanning Europe\, South America\, Africa\, and Asia\, BATAstories moves between past and present\, blending archival and contemporary footage. From the industrial city of Zlín to purpose-built communities across the world\, it reveals a bold social experiment where factories became towns and employees became stakeholders. \nAt once intimate and expansive\, BATAstories is a vivid exploration of ambition\, ideology\, and the human stories behind a global empire. \nDir. Peter Kerekes\, France\, Czech Republic\, Slovakia\, 2018\, 78 min\, English subtitles / With Bolek Polívka and Zuzana Stivínová

SUMMARY:World Between Us
DESCRIPTION:Will Marie from a small town in the Czech Republic succeed by fulfilling her lifetime dream to conquer New York as a still photographer? \n\nMarie Tomanová travelled from Mikulov to the USA as an au pair\, and today she shoots campaigns for fashion brands such as Nike\, Instagram\, or for the fashion magazines such as Vogue CS. However\, her name is better known abroad than in her native country\, which provided few opportunities for the young painter. Paradoxically\, it was only in New York\, far from home\, that she was able to grow up and find herself – a transition greatly supported by Marie’s partner in professional and personal life\, art historian Thomas Beachdel. Tomanová touches the world in a different way\, with a rush of positive emotions\, an immediate connection\, acting as a medium through which the energy of the portrait-sitter passes. Directed by fellow Czech expatriate Marie Dvořáková\, a Student Academy Award winner\, the film is both a tender portrait of friendship and a reflection on ambition\, identity\, and the search for home. Through the story of the two Maries\, World Between Us explores the fragile space between worlds\, showing that home is not always a place but a feeling of connection\, belonging\, and self-discovery. \nMarie Dvořáková\, Czech Republic\, Slovakia 2024\, 90 min\, English subtitles   \nBest Cinematography Award at the 24th Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival\nMarie Dvořáková was born in Jablonec nad Nisou\, and after studying directing at FAMU\, she went on to study for a master’s degree at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. She now lives and works in the USA. Her short film Who’s Who in Mycology (2016)\, for which she won a student Oscar in Hollywood\, opened the door to a big world for her. \n\nAdmission: £5\nBOOK NOW\n\nThe screening is an accompanying event to the exhibition Pixels and Poetics: Sudek\, Funke\, and the Influence of New Technologies on the Development of Photography\, presented at the Vitrínka and Bouda Galleries and in the public space outside the Czech Embassy\, running from 20 January to 13 March 2026.

SUMMARY:Wolves\, Folklore\, and Family: Reading and Discussion with Zuzana Rihova
DESCRIPTION:Acclaimed Czech writer and scholar Zuzana Říhová joins Dr Kathryn Murphy (University of Oxford) for an informal evening of readings and discussion of her novel Playing Wolf\, a contemporary tale set in the Czech countryside. \nA couple move from Prague with their young son to a remote village in the hope of repairing their failing marriage. As they attempt to settle in\, they encounter a closed community shaped by unspoken rules\, strange coincidences\, and fragments of local folklore. Using the familiar tale of Little Red Riding Hood\, subtly woven into the narrative\, the story illuminates themes of vulnerability\, trust\, and hidden menace. \nBlending psychological insight with folkloric resonance\, Playing Wolf explores how myths and inherited stories continue to influence behaviour and relationships in the present day. The conversation will reflect on the role of folklore and fairy-tale motifs in the novel\, and on how quiet tensions within families and communities can slowly transform lives. \nZuzana Říhová studied Czech language and literature and comparative literature at Charles University in Prague. She has published a collection of poetry\, Pustím si tě do domu (I’ll Let You in My House)\, and a novella\, Evička (Little Eve). \nAlex Zucker’s translations include novels by Magdaléna Platzová\, Jáchym Topol\, Bianca Bellová\, Petra Hůlová\, and Tomáš Zmeškal. He has also translated plays\, subtitles\, young adult and children’s books\, poems\, philosophy\, art history\, and an opera. \nKathryn Murphy is Fellow and Tutor in English Literature at Oriel College\, Oxford\, where she writes about and teaches seventeenth-century literature. Her book\, Robert Burton: A Vital Melancholy is forthcoming from Reaktion. She studied Czech literature at the University of Glasgow\, and reviews Czech fiction for the Times Literary Supplement. \nAdmission: £5 (+ Eventbrite fee)\nBook Here \nZuzana Říhová will also appear in Oxford the day before\, on Wednesday 4 March 2026\, for a special event at The Queen’s College exploring poetry in translation alongside a reading from Playing Wolf. The Oxford evening will include discussion\, a book signing and refreshments. Free entry. More info

SUMMARY:Mr Nobody Against Putin
DESCRIPTION:When Russia invades Ukraine\, schoolteacher Pavel “Pasha” Talankin becomes an unlikely dissident. In a small industrial town\, he is beloved by his students for his humor\, creativity\, and care. But as patriotic lessons\, military drills\, and state propaganda take over classrooms\, Pasha begins filming. \n\nOver two years\, he covertly documents the transformation of the school into recruitment grounds for war\, children drawn into the machinery of indoctrination\, and colleagues silenced under new repressive laws. What emerges is a gripping\, intimate portrait of life under a tightening regime and one man’s quiet courage. Haunted by his past and risking everything\, Pasha exposes the erosion of truth and the resilience of those who dare to resist from within\, even at great personal cost. \nDavid Borenstein\, Pasha Talankin\, Denmark\, Czech Republic\, Germany\, 2025\, 90’\, English subtitles \n\nAdmission: £5 (+ Eventbrite fee)\nBOOK NOW\n\nThe screening commemorates the four-year anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine\, a poignant reminder of the ongoing struggle for peace and justice. \nIn collaboration with the Danish Embassy in London. \n

SUMMARY:Semafor: The Birth of Pop Culture in Prague’s 1960s
DESCRIPTION:Bursting into the 1960s with wit\, charm\, and a rebellious spirit\, Prague’s Semafor Theatre became a beacon of creativity behind the Iron Curtain. The unforgettable duo of Jiří Suchý and Jiří Šlitr brought Czechoslovakia its first wave of modern pop\, offbeat humour\, and a form of rebellion that spoke a language different from that of official power and the media. Their songs became the soundtrack of a generation and a symbol of cultural resistance. In this special event\, music historian and author of Suchý & Šlitr\, Semafor 1959–1969\, Pavel Klusák\, and Jiří Šlitr’s daughter\, Dominika Křesťanová\, share stories\, rare insights\, and the cultural legacy of a duo who defined an era\, and the rebellion that stole a language for its own game. \n\n\n\n\nThis event also marks the recent release of Pavel Klusák’s book Suchý a Šlitr: Semafor 1959–1969 (Host\, 2024\, 456 pages\, ISBN 978-80-275-1813-5)\, which explores the rise of Semafor and its cultural impact during a decade of change. The book\, awarded the Egon Erwin Kisch Prize for non-fiction\, offers a vivid portrait of the duo’s creative world and their lasting influence on Czechoslovak popular culture. \n\nAdmission: £7 (+ Eventbrite fee)\n\nBOOK NOW

SUMMARY:Echoes of Exile: A Family’s Odyssey through the Holocaust and Cold War
DESCRIPTION:Book launch conversation with Daniela Spenser\, chaired by Jana Burešová \n\nJoin us for a compelling evening with historian and anthropologist Daniela Grollová Spenser\, as she discusses her new book Echoes of Exile: A Family’s Odyssey through the Holocaust and Cold War. \nBlending personal history with political insight\, Spenser traces three generations of her family across some of the most turbulent chapters of the 20th century: from the devastation of the Holocaust and wartime imprisonment\, through the vibrant intellectual and political life of 1960s Czechoslovakia\, to the trauma of exile after the 1968 Soviet invasion. At the heart of the story are her mother\, translator Ruth Tosková\, and her stepfather\, editor and journalist Vladimír Tosek\, whose lives intertwined with prominent figures such as Jiří Pelikán and the émigré journal Listy. \nThe book—published in Czech by Argo (2025) and in English by the University of Alabama Press (2025)—offers a deeply human perspective on survival\, displacement\, and the shifting relationship between political exiles and Czech society after 1989. \nThe conversation will be chaired by Jana Burešová and will open a window into how private lives intersect with history on a global scale. \nAbout the author:\nDaniela Spenser is a fellow at CIESAS (Centro de Investigaciones y Estudios Superiores en Antropología Social) in Mexico City. She is also the author of The Impossible Triangle: Mexico\, Soviet Russia\, and the United States in the 1920sand Stumbling Its Way Through Mexico: The Early Years of the Communist International. \nSupported by the BCSA. \n\nAdmission: 5 (+ Eventbrite fee)

SUMMARY:Czech Documentary Now: The Other One
DESCRIPTION:Marie-Magdalena Kochová’s debut portrays 18-year-old Johana’s internal struggle between her dreams and her duty to her family\, highlighting her silent self-sacrifice and the overwhelming weight of living for others. \n\nEighteen-year-old Johana has always been the dependable one—the quiet anchor in a family consumed by caring for her younger sister\, Rósa\, who has severe autism. As she nears high school graduation\, Johana faces an impossible choice: remain in her small Czech hometown to help her overburdened parents\, or finally step out of the shadows to study psychology and build a life of her own. \nIn her poignant feature debut\, director Marie-Magdalena Kochová crafts an intimate\, unflinching portrait of a so-called “glass child”—a sibling rendered nearly invisible by the needs of another. Through quiet observations and close-ups that reveal volumes in a single glance\, The Other One captures the silent struggle between love and self-preservation\, duty and identity. \nWinner of the MDR Film Prize for Outstanding Eastern European Documentary at DOK Leipzig 2024\, the film sheds light on the hidden toll of caregiving on young people\, offering a voice to everyone who has ever felt unseen. The Other One is not merely a coming-of-age story; it is a powerful testament to the courage it takes to choose yourself. \nDir. Marie-Magdalena Kochová\, Czech Republic\, Slovakia\, 87 min\, 2024\, Eng. subt.   \n\nAdmission: 5 (+ Eventbrite fee)\nBook here:\nhttps://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/czech-documentary-now-the-other-one-tickets-1550514463499?aff=oddtdtcreator

SUMMARY:Design and Transformations: An Outdoor Photographic Exhibition by Vojtech Veskrna
DESCRIPTION:This outdoor exhibition by photographer Vojtěch Veškrna complements Design and Transformation. Stories of Czech Design 1990–2020\, on view at the Czech Centre’s Bouda Gallery. Installed in the public space outside the Czech Embassy\, the series offers a visually rich\, behind-the-scenes look into twelve Czech companies where design plays a central role in shaping both products and identity. \n\nVeškrna’s photographs move beyond polished final outcomes to focus on the environments\, materials\, and people that define contemporary Czech design. His lens captures the quiet rhythms of daily production\, the tactile beauty of traditional techniques\, and the innovation driving forward-thinking industries—from porcelain workshops and textile printers to medical technology and game development studios. This body of work reveals design as a living process—deeply rooted in craft\, constantly evolving\, and inseparable from the cultural and industrial landscape it inhabits. \nCoorganised by the Czech Centre London and the Academy of Arts\, Architecture and Design in Prague UMPRUM. DESCRIPTION:An Exhibition of posters from the 59th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival \n\nThe Karlovy Vary International Film Festival\, founded in 1946\, is one of the oldest film festivals in the world and the most important cinematic event in Central Europe. Every year\, the picturesque West Bohemian spa town of Karlovy Vary hosts hundreds of filmmakers from around the world while offering audiences the chance to see more than 200 films\, including world premieres in the festival’s official selection and other programme sections. Each year\, this renowned Czech design studio gives the festival’s visuals a new and original form and a clear theme. \nThe symbol of the festival’s 59th edition is closeness\, represented by the simplest yet most eloquent of human gestures – the embrace. \nKVIFF 59 will take place in Karlovy Vary from 4 to 12 July 2025 \nAuthor of visual identity: Zuzana Lednická \nIn collaboration with: Aleš Najbrt \nPhotographer: Václav Jirásek   \nOutdoor exhibition on the fence of the Czech Embassy\n26 – 30 Kensington Palace Gardens\, London W8 4QY\nFree access 24/7 \nThis exhibition is part of From Karlovy Vary\, With Art\, the Czech Centre’s series celebrating the cultural legacy and creative spirit of Karlovy Vary through contemporary art\, design and cinema — including the tribute screening Jiří Bartoška In Memoriam: Shadows of a Hot Summer (1 July) and the group exhibition They All Met in Karlsbad\, on view at the Vitrínka Gallery from 11 July.

SUMMARY:Women in Focus: Sara Polak
DESCRIPTION:The guest of the next edition of the Czech Centre’s Women in Focus series will be Sara Polak\, an archaeologist\, evolutionary anthropologist\, and technology innovator whose work bridges the humanities and cutting-edge AI research. \nPolak is a co-founder of the Mobilis Institute and the blockchain educational platform ShellProof\, a Visiting Research Fellow and part-time lecturer at the University of Oxford\, and leads the CCHAOS Research group at the Faculty of Information Technology\, Czech Technical University. Her focus lies in the digitisation of cultural heritage and the simulation of civilisational dynamics. Having spent much of her career in the UK and the USA tech sectors\, Polak is passionate about connecting modern technologies with the humanities. She has been named on Forbes’ 30 Under 30\, was recognised as a Top Innovator (2022)\, and received the Business Revolution Award from the UK Department for International Trade. She believes that only through education and interdisciplinary collaboration can humanity fulfil its potential — and perhaps one day survive on Mars. She explores these ideas through the Civilisational Resilience think tank\, which she co-founded. \nIn her talk Archaeology and AI: the last hope for our survival?\, Sara Polak will explore how civilisational resilience — the ability of societies to endure\, adapt\, and thrive through both crises and everyday pressures — increasingly depends on the synergy between technology and the humanities. She will examine how artificial intelligence and archaeology can enrich our understanding of past societies and offer strategies for a more sustainable future. By combining AI-driven archaeological research with humanistic insight\, we can preserve cultural heritage\, learn from historical adaptations\, and help shape ethical\, resilient technologies for generations to come. \nAdmission: £5 (+ Eventbrite fee)\nBook Here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/women-in-focus-sara-polak-tickets-1372620447709?aff=oddtdtcreator

SUMMARY:Women in Focus: Juliet Vopěnka Navrátilová
DESCRIPTION:The next edition of the Czech Centre’s Women in Focus series takes a unique turn—this time delving into the deeply personal and spiritual. Juliet Vopěnka Navrátilová\, author\, shamanic practitioner\, Blue Badge guide\, and anthropology student\, shares her transformative journey from illness and emotional struggle to healing and empowerment. Through sensitivity\, ritual\, and connection\, she redefines what it means to thrive in today’s world. \nAbout Juliet Vopěnka Navrátilová\n\nJuliet left the Czech Republic at 19 and spent two decades in London after a few years in Berlin. Her lifelong sensitivity\, once a burden\, became a strength during a deep “alchemical journey of metamorphoses.” This is also the subtitle of her second book\, Cesta (ne)mocné Londýňanky (The Journey of a Power(less) Londoner)\, which explores trauma\, healing\, and shamanic calling. Her London life included work in Wandsworth prison and as a Blue Badge guide. With degrees in Social and Medical Anthropology from Goldsmiths and UCL\, her study focused on consciousness\, ecofeminism\, and ritual. Her first book\, Myslet srdcem (Thinking with the Heart)\, became a Czech bestseller. About the Theme of the Evening – An Empath’s Journey from Rags to RichesIn this edition of the Czech Centre’s Women in Focus series\, Juliet Vopěnka Navrátilová offers a profoundly personal and spiritual reflection on living with extreme sensitivity. Her “shamanic illness” became the turning point that redirected her path—from illness and emotional struggle to healing\, empowerment\, and purpose. In this context\, “rags to riches” refers not to material wealth but to emotional\, mental\, and spiritual abundance gained through self-understanding. \nThrough travels in Latin America and participation in shamanic ceremonies\, Juliet saw her empathic nature as a gift rather than a burden. Empaths—highly sensitive\, neurodiverse individuals—often absorb others’ emotions unconsciously\, leading to exhaustion and illness. She now helps others reconnect with their intuition and inner power by embracing her sensitivity. As a shamanic practitioner\, she also energetically cleans homes and spaces. Her journey is one of transformation through ritual\, awareness\, and heart-centred connection. \nwww.thinkingwiththeheart.com\nwww.mysletsrdcem.cz

SUMMARY:Identity: A Czech Graphic Design Love Story
DESCRIPTION:From New York to Prague: Nicholas Lowry’s Journey Through Czech Identity \n\nRenowned NY-based auctioneer and passionate collector Nicholas Lowry embarks on a captivating journey across the Czech Republic\, uncovering the visual and cultural threads that define Czech national identity. Swapping the auction house for adventure\, Czech-American Lowry—instantly recognizable in his signature tartan suit—travels from the vibrant streets of Prague to the design-rich cities of Zlín\, Litomyšl\, Brno\, and Pilsen. Along the way\, he delves into the legacies of visionary figures like Tomáš Baťa\, Josef Váchal\, Alfons Mucha\, and Ladislav Sutnar\, while also indulging in one of the country’s greatest exports—Pilsner beer. \nHis exploration takes unexpected turns\, from South Moravia’s vineyards\, where he examines the artistry of wine labels\, to the scenic hiking trails marked by the Czech Tourist Club’s innovative wayfinding system. Lowry also connects with today’s leading graphic designers\, including Petr Babák\, Martin Pecina\, and Aleš Najbrt\, bridging past and present in Czech visual culture. \nBut this journey is more than just an exploration—it’s personal. As he traces the evolution of Czech design\, Lowry uncovers a piece of his own history: his great-uncle founded the Primeros factory in Prague\, a story intertwined with the nation’s graphic identity. Through humor\, curiosity\, and a collector’s keen eye\, he offers a fresh perspective on what shapes a country’s visual soul. \nKateřina Mikulcová\, Petr Smělík\, Czech Republic 2024\, 85 mins \nUK Premiere\n\nAdmission: £5 (+ Eventbrite fee)\nBook here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/identity-a-czech-graphic-design-love-story-tickets-1248206973659?aff=oddtdtcreator

But Jan’s journey to Oscar glory began much earlier—with a Student Academy Award in 1988 for his inventive environmental mockumentary Oil Gobblers and the Oscar nomination for Elementary school in 1991. \nNow\, as Jan Svěrák celebrates his 60th birthday\, join us for a special double bill of Kolya and Oil Gobblers\, introduced by multi-award-winning producer Eric Abraham. Eric will share behind-the-scenes stories from their groundbreaking partnership\, which began with Kolyaand continued with acclaimed films like Dark Blue World\, Kooky\, and Empties. Don’t miss this opportunity to revisit two extraordinary films and celebrate Jan’s birthday with us. \nOil Gobblers\nJan Svěrák\, Czechoslovakia 1988\, 22´\nCast: Emil Nedbal\, Lubomír Beneš\, Ivo Kašpar\, Jan Rokyta\, Jiří Němec \nIn 1987 northern Bohemia\, a team investigates “Petroleus Mostensis\,” a mythical creature devouring polyethylene in a toxic industrial wasteland. Blending satire and environmental critique\, Jan Svěrák’s student film spotlights Czechoslovakia’s ecological destruction. Amid humour and drama\, the mockumentary exposes the consequences of unchecked industrial exploitation. 60 \nKolya\nJan Svěrák\, Czech Republic\, 1996\, 105´\nCast: Zdeněk Svěrák\, Andrej Chalimon\, Libuse Safránková\, Ondrej Vetchý \n“Enchanting…Kolya deserves all its international success.” The Times \n“What makes “Kolya” special is the way it paints the details. Like the films of the Czech New Wave in the late 1960s\, it has a cheerful\, irreverent humour\, and an eye for the absurdities of human behaviour.” Roger Ebert \nOscar® Winner Best Foreign Film (1996). The middle-aged Czech cellist Josef Louka is a skirt-chasing bachelor\, who enjoys a lifestyle free of responsibilities. Strapped for cash he agrees to a marriage of convenience. But after his new bride skips town\, he is left to father her five-year-old Russian son\, Kolya. Neither could be more unhappy with their predicament\, especially since they don’t even speak the same language. But time and patience form an unbreakable bond between this unlikely father-son duo.

SUMMARY:Holocaust Memorial Day: The Hungarian Dressmaker
DESCRIPTION:Marika\, a Hungarian widow dressmaker\, shelters a little Czech Jewish boy in her home on the Slovak-Hungarian border during the turbulent years of WW2 and the Wartime Slovak State. Based on Peter Krištúfek’s novel Emma and the Death’s Head and inspired by true events\, the screening marks the Holocaust Memorial Day. \n\nIt’s the 1940s. The Slovak state witnessed the rise of nationalism\, and it’s not an auspicious time for minorities. The turbulent social mood also impacts the widow Marika\, who loses her job in an Aryanised dressmaker’s shop. Given the increasing anti-Hungarian sentiment\, she shuts herself away\, particularly since she is also harbouring a little Jewish boy. Despite this\, she still finds herself singled out by two men: a German Nazi officer and a captain of Slovakia’s Hlinka Guard. This drama by Slovak director Iveta Grófová is an adaptation of the novella by Peter Krištúfek\, which conjures up the dramatic atmosphere of wartime Slovakia. The story of a fragmented era\, which forces the protagonists to confront complex dilemmas\, is told through words and powerful visual language. \nIveta Grófová\, Czech Republic/Slovakia\, 2024\, 129‘\nCast Alexandra Borbély\, Nico Klimek\, Milan Ondrík\, Alexander E. SUMMARY:Magdalena Platzová: Life After Kafka

Acclaimed Czech novelist and Magnesia Litera Award finalist Magdalena Platzová\, alongside journalist and Kafka enthusiast Nick Lezard\, will explore this captivating blend of fact and fiction\, transporting readers across time and space—from pre–World War II Europe to present-day America. Inspired by Platzová’s meeting with Felice Bauer’s son\, the novel provides fresh insights into Kafka’s world while weaving a haunting family saga about legacy\, survival\, and the profound impact of famous artists on those closest to them. \n\n  \n“Meticulously researched\, vividly envisioned. . . . The writing deftly renders both the texture of life before and after two world wars and the persistent longing of refugees for a home that no longer exists.” —Washington Independent Review of Books \n“Kafka afficionados will thrill to this. . . . Equal parts family memoir and a tantalizing publishing detective story\, Life After Kafka raises questions about memory\, privacy\, and the impact on each by the passage of time.” —Historical Novels Review \n“This elegantly narrated novel\, full of fascinations\, paints an impassioned and poignant portrait of Felice Bauer and other exiles connected to Franz Kafka and charts a compelling cartography of their now vanished world.” —Benjamin Balint\, author of Kafka’s Last Trial and Bruno Schulz \n“Franz Kafka is a universe that resists any attempt at interpretation. Magdaléna Platzová’s novel offers a new key to Kafka’s world: we look at it through the tender and sorrowful gaze of the people whose fate had been marked by him personally. SUMMARY:Jaromír 99: The Castle - Exhibition in London
DESCRIPTION:Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Franz Kafka’s The Castle through an open-air exhibition showcasing the expressive black & white prints of renowned Czech illustrator and musician Jaromír 99 created for David Zane Mairowitz’s comics adaptation. The exhibition\, curated by Lukáš Horký\, offers a non-linear exploration of Kafka’s enigmatic narrative. Each image is a visual portal into Kafka’s text\, inviting viewers to interpret and engage with its suggestive and elusive nature. The exhibition captures the essence of Kafka’s surreal universe from the solitary figure of K. with his pilgrim’s stick to the ethereal presence of the chateau looming in the clouds. \n\n  \nAbout Franz Kafka\nFranz Kafka was born in 1883 in Prague\, and his name is a symbol of Prague’s German-language literature\, which artistically reflects the unique cultural and social atmosphere of centuries of coexistence among Czechs\, Germans\, and Jews in the Central European region. Kafka’s work resonates globally with its timelessness. His books mirror not only the uncertainty and variability of his time but\, above all\, his inner conflict\, giving his work a very specific character. \nKafka’s perception of societal changes at the turn of the twentieth century and his sensitivity as a person and writer make his creations timeless. We constantly return to his texts\, which warn us against falling into lethargy and urge us not to accept the absurdities of the era passively. However\, much more is to be found in his work\, which often depends on how the reader interprets and understands the text. \nFranz Kafka wrote several short stories and three novels—America\, The Trial\, and The Castle\, which remains unfinished. The year 2024 marks the 100th anniversary of his death\, when he was just 41. \nAbout Jaromír 99\nJaromír 99\, whose real name is Jaromír Švejdík\, was born in 1963 in Czechoslovakia and moves between the worlds of comics and music. He is a composer\, singer\, guitarist\, the frontman of the Kafka Band\, and an artist. The series of prints created by Jaromír 99 in 2013 for a comic adaptation of the novel „The Castle“ are expressive black and white prints\, first exhibited in 2020 as part of the Franz Kafka Festival in Frýdlantsko. The exhibition in the castle brewery metaphorically illustrated the futile journey of the land surveyor K. to the castle\, which stands on a hill within sight of the installation location. \nOutdoor exhibition on the fence of the Czech Embassy\n26 – 30 Kensington Palace Gardens\, London W8 4QY\nFree access 24/7
