SUMMARY:LIGHT\, LENS\, LEGEND - Willie Christie - Exhbition
DESCRIPTION:Presented at Cris Contini Contemporary in collaboration with Carola Syz Projects\, this exhibition brings into focus the enduring visual language of Willie Christie\, whose work as a fashion photographer\, spanning over a decade\, continues to resonate with striking clarity and relevance today.\n\nEmerging at a pivotal moment when fashion\, music\, and popular culture converged\, Christie photographed a constellation of defining figures\, including David Bowie\, Bryan Ferry\, Jerry Hall\, and Grace Jones. His images move beyond documentation\, constructing presence through a masterful use of light\, colour\, and composition\, creating photographs that feel cinematic and charged with atmosphere.\nA central element of his practice is his work for British Vogue\, where he produced a significant body of editorial imagery alongside ten striking covers. Created in collaboration with Grace Coddington\, then a fashion editor at the magazine and later his wife\, these works introduced a new visual language defined by narrative\, mood\, and a refined sense of artifice.\n\nAmong the highlights of the exhibition is Christie’s iconic 1969 portrait of Mick Jagger\, in which a luminous halo of light transforms the image into something mythic. Also featured are his photographs of Jerry Hall on the set of The Spy Who Loved Me at Pinewood Studios\, capturing both the scale of cinematic production and the magnetic presence of the subject.\nChristie’s later move into film\, including projects connected to Pink Floyd’s The Final Cut\, further reflects the cinematic quality that defines his work. Across both still and moving images\, his practice explores atmosphere\, narrative\, and the emotional resonance of light.\nWillie Christie: Light\, Lens\, Legend presents a body of work that remains both timeless and influential\, inviting a renewed appreciation of photography as a medium capable of shaping perception\, memory\, and desire.

SUMMARY:Landscape\, Again – Cristiano Petrucci - Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Cris Contini Contemporary in Notting Hill presents Landscape\, Again\, an exhibition by Italian artist Cristiano Petrucci\, in which everyday material is transformed into a vivid\, speculative ecosystem. \nThe works originate from a simple yet radical gesture: the transformation of ping pong balls into lacquered\, intensely coloured forms that resemble cells\, spores and imagined organisms. Removed from their original function\, these lightweight objects become a new sculptural vocabulary — where the familiar shifts into the microscopic\, and surface becomes a site of discovery. \nReferencing microbial realities as both scientific and philosophical terrain\, Petrucci brings attention to what typically escapes the eye. Glossy\, chromatically saturated skins evoke invisible worlds in constant mutation\, where the boundary between order and chaos is unstable. Each piece appears as a fragment of a larger\, autonomous ecosystem: alive\, pulsating\, yet unmistakably artificial. \nScale is deliberately deceptive. What seems small holds immense complexity; what appears playful carries a meditation on the deep structures of reality. As in biological microcosms\, everything is relational — contact\, proliferation and temporary balance shape the work’s inner logic. Through colour\, repetition and material transformation\, the exhibition invites viewers to slow down\, recalibrate their gaze\, and consider what exists beneath the threshold of the visible.

SUMMARY:JEFF ROBB – CONJECTURES AND REFUTATIONS - Free Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Conjectures and Refutations by Jeff Robb at Cris Contini Contemporary London presents two innovative series: the titular body of work and Human Collage. The first series is inspired by Karl Popper and explores the idea of truth as provisional and constantly shifting. Through concentric circles and lenticular elements\, the works change according to the viewer’s position. Human Collage blends abstraction and realism using fragmented figures. The series reflects on the complexity of identity and human experience. \nJeff Robb – Conjectures and Refutations \n05 March – 11 April 2026 \nOpening Hours: \nTue-Sat: 10.00AM-6.00PM \nSun-Mon: by appointment only \nFree Entry

SUMMARY:Jens Hesse - Glitch & Glamour: Perfectly Imperfect
DESCRIPTION:Cris Contini Contemporary London concludes a successful year with a solo exhibition by German artist Jens Hesse\, Glitch & Glamour: Perfectly Imperfect. The show celebrates Hesse’s distinctive painterly language\, where the precision of digital aesthetics meets the sensual imperfection of tactile surfaces. His works unfold in the space between these poles\, translating the technical errors of our media-saturated era into gestures of painterly intimacy. A former fashion designer\, Hesse approaches painting as both fabric and image. The surface — sometimes corduroy\, sometimes bouclé — is never neutral; it recalls texture\, touch\, and wear. These tactile foundations become the site where the “glitch” appears: not as a mistake\, but as a revelation. What the screen hides behind its promise of seamless perfection\, Hesse reveals through brushstrokes\, layering\, and distortion.\nHis portraits and figurative scenes seem at once familiar and disturbed. Pixels bleed into brush marks; compression lines cut across faces; digital interference coexists with the softness of oil and textile fibers. These works do not imitate technology — they expose its fragility. By transforming visual defects into painterly language\, Hesse reclaims the human presence within the technological gaze.\nThe exhibition’s title\, Glitch & Glamour\, evokes this duality. “Glamour” — the polished image\, the seductive surface — meets “glitch”\, the breakdown that disrupts illusion. Hesse situates beauty within the fault line between these states. In doing so\, he reminds us that imperfection is not the opposite of glamour but its hidden core: the shimmer that occurs precisely when control falters.\nIn an age obsessed with clarity\, correction\, and resolution\, Hesse’s paintings invite us to dwell in ambiguity. They ask us to look again — not for perfection\, but for presence. Within the glitch\, we find the trace of the hand\, the residue of the body\, the persistence of the real. Perfectly imperfect. \n  \nTitle: Jens Hesse – Glitch & Glamour: Perfectly Imperfect\nVenue: Cris Contini Contemporary\, 1 Lonsdale Road W11 2BY\, Notting Hill\, London\nDates: 27 November – 10 January 2026 \nClosure for the Christmas holidays: from 21st December 2025 until 5th January 2026

SUMMARY:Paolo Battistutta - Transits
DESCRIPTION:Transits as passages\, metamorphoses\, transformations: the title of Paolo Battistutta’s exhibition at Cris Contini Contemporary gallery in Notting Hill\, encapsulates both our present and the essence of his practice\, naming the constant shift between figuration – faces\, portraits\, human presence – and the abstract–informal field – the celebrated tondos and beyond. Timed with Frieze London the exhibition enters the wider conversation animating the city’s contemporary art scene that week \nOn large canvases\, Battistutta stages a visceral confrontation with painting: matter and thought\, gesture and figure push the image beyond its boundaries. Paint becomes psyche—emotion before figure—driven by an informal\, impulsive energy. His monumental visages\, cut through by vivid chromatic fields\, open a journey into interiority: less “beautiful” portraits than raw mirrors of vulnerability\, where deformation sharpens insight. \nThe other pole of his work unfolds in the tondos: dynamic\, layered masses radiating a primordial energy—arenas of impulses\, events and tensions—where the circular form offers unity alongside maximum compositional freedom. Here the ego recedes\, form fractures\, and an almost iconoclastic impulse advances; painting becomes a transit of body and soul. \nThe exhibition—produced by Cris Contini Contemporary\, coordinated by Sandra Sanson\, and accompanied by a catalogue published by Grafica Antiga—features critical texts by Lorena Gava\, Pasquale Lettieri\, Cristian Contini\, and Fulvio Granocchia. \n  \nPaolo Battistutta – Transits \nCris Contini Contemporary\, Notting Hill\, London\n14 October – 15 November 2025 \nVernissage: 14 October at 6PM

SUMMARY:MISTER CLAY – LET’S COME TOGETHER - Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition Let’s Come Together by Mister Clay transforms the spaces of our Notting Hill gallery into an explosion of color and energy. Born from the fusion of New York–style wild writing and Italian creativity\, Mister Clay’s project focuses on his iconic “the Allucinati” (the Allucinated): essential\, vibrant figures that animate city walls and canvases with a message both simple and powerful. Unbound by banners or ideologies\, the Allucinati bring joy\, love\, and hope to those who feel marginalized\, igniting small “gentle revolutions” in a world that can sometimes stifle the imagination.\nWith Let’s Come Together\, Mister Clay reminds us that street art is\, above all\, a universal language capable of speaking to the heart before the eyes. We look forward to welcoming you into this universe of empathy and creativity\, where color becomes a vehicle of joy and hope.

SUMMARY:Emanuele Sari - Storytelling - Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Cris Contini Contemporary is proud to present Storytelling\, a solo exhibition by Italian artist Emanuele Sari\, hosted at our London gallery in Notting Hill. The exhibition runs from 12 May to 8 June 2025 and forms part of the official programme of London Craft Week 2025.\nWith a unique artistic voice\, Emanuele Sari merges the rich Italian tradition of mosaic art with a bold\, contemporary visual language inspired by pop art and street art. His vibrant works\, crafted with Venetian glass\, smalti\, marble\, and shimmering gold\, silver\, and copper accents\, depict iconic characters from comic books and the world of entertainment — from Lupin to Joker\, Klimt to Modigliani\, David Bowie to Freddie Mercury.\nBlending playfulness with depth\, Sari transforms an ancient craft into a dynamic medium for exploring today’s cultural landscape. SUMMARY:UNTETHERED\, Alexis Walters at Cris Contini Contemporary - Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of the month dedicated to women\, Cris Contini Contemporary is proud to present UNTETHERED\, a solo exhibition by artist Alexis Walters that explores the themes of memory\, identity\, and transformation.\n\nUNTETHERED is an intimate journey towards reconciling with one’s inner child\, a path that brings to light a creativity that had been suspended. Through suspended garments\, the artist evokes memory and its power to transform the past into something new. Each work originates from a process of metamorphosis: the past is not merely preserved but reworked\, infusing it with new energy and meaning.\nThe deep blue of the cyanotype on Arches paper envelops the works in an ethereal atmosphere where time seems suspended. The contrast between blue and white becomes a powerful metaphor for transformation\, balance between presence and absence\, memory and renewal. With its contact impression and light development\, the cyanotype process strengthens the connection between image and memory\, capturing traces that resurface with delicacy and intensity.\nUNTETHERED  is an invitation for reflection\, a bridge between past and present\, between what we have been and what we could become. This exhibition explores the theme of loss while also celebrating the power of transformation and renewal—resonating deeply with the spirit of March\, traditionally dedicated to women.\n\nThe exhibition will be open from March 14th to 29th\, 2025\, at Cris Contini Contemporary. It offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in an artistic experience that invites self-discovery through art.\n\n\n14 – 29 March 2025 \nCris Contini Contemporary\n1 Lonsdale Road\, W11 2BY London\nOpening Hours: Tue-Sat 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

SUMMARY:Mark James - VIVID
DESCRIPTION:Cris Contini Contemporary is delighted to announce the opening of their new London Gallery with VIVID\, a solo exhibition of new paintings by British artist Mark James. \n\n\n\n\nBest known for FREEZE (1993)\, the first TV documentary about Damien Hirst and the YBA generation\, James originally trained at Goldsmiths and has continued to pursue painting alongside creating numerous critically acclaimed TV and feature documentaries on music and the arts. James now divides his time between filmmaking and painting\, and the exhibition at Cris Contini is his debut solo exhibition. \n\nPhotography\, architecture\, music\, colour\, and movement are all part of the fundamental DNA of James’ practice\, conjuring joyful and dynamic spaces of colour\, light\, and movement. Waldemar Januszczak\, the Art Critic of The Sunday Times\, has described James’ paintings as “Pop Suprematism.” James’ paintings are structured to create juxtapositions of shape\, space\, and colour\, evoking a mid-century aesthetic of modernism and a kind of future set in the past. \nJames comments\, “Composers often start with a single note\, or chord\, which becomes the defining sound of the song from which all the other notes flow. My painting process is very similar to this music analogy. It’s always tricky starting the process\, but once I apply the first colour to the canvas\, others follow in reaction”. \nOften created in response to music\, James’ paintings frequently reference the artist’s wide-ranging playlist in their titles\, from ‘Summer Wind’ to ‘Fly With Me’. James comments\, “Although the paintings aren’t inspired by specific songs\, I use song titles to name my paintings by selecting music which I feel most closely resonates with each painting. I particularly like music from the jazz /swing era and a number of people have commented that the paintings have a kind of jazz ‘vibe’. \nJames’ work is held in numerous high-profile private collections. It is prominently featured in the celebrated Groucho alongside many of his YBA peers and Sir Michael Craig-Martin\, the esteemed British artist whom James worked with as a trusted studio assistant for many years.
