DESCRIPTION:A night of music & spoken word supporting families in Gaza through ALL OUR RELATIONS\, an organisation helping families in need inside the Gaza Strip. \nWhere: Colour Factory\, 8 Queen’s Yard\, London E9 5EN \nWhen: Tuesday 19 November 2024 – Doors @7pm \nStellar line up for the TURN UP FOR GAZA : \nTOM SKINNER (The Smile\, Sons of Kemet) is a drummer\, composer and producer who has been a vital and central figure in the burgeoning underground music scene in London throughout the last 20 years whilst providing the rhythm section for giants like Thom Yorke and Kano. \nROZI PLAIN is a singer-songwriter who’s released countless stunning albums under her own name and collaborated with Kate Stables (This Is The Kit) and Rachael Dadd\, among many others\, on a thriving local scene. Rozi’s music has always felt like a freeze-frame—a colourful and graceful snapshot of the world\, paused\, suspended in time\, and then gently toyed with\, like stepping out of the linear world as we know it. \nBETAMAX (The Comet Is Coming\, Soccer96) is a London-based drummer and producer. He is the beating rhythmic heart of sonic explorers. The Comet Is Coming. He makes analogue synth-rock as part of the duo Soccer96 and explores psychedelic dub rituals as part of the Champagne Dub collective. \nDANALOGUE (The Comet Is Coming\, Soccer96) is a synth wizard icon and record producer\, based in London. You can hear Danalogue’s Roland Sh-09 & Juno 60 combo on countless recordings and his signature production on albums by Alabaster Deplume\, Snapped Ankles\, Lunch Monday amongst others. \nRUTH GOLLER is a bassist\, vocalist\, composer\, environmentalist and now solo artist\, hailed by the Guardian for her “thunderous bass-guitar hooks”. Ruth helped lay the foundation for the UK’s jazz renaissance\, from her years on stage with Acoustic Ladyland and Melt Yourself Down to more recently Let Spin and Vula Viel\, whilst performing and recording with the likes of Shabaka Hutchings\, Mercury-Award nominee Kit Downes\, Sam Amidon\, Bojan Z\, Marc Ribot\, Rokia Traoré\, and Paul McCartney. \nTOM HERBERT is a long-standing member of London’s thriving jazz and alternative music scene. He has been a mainstay of London’s diverse and exciting music scene for many years\, most notably in Mercury Music Prize-nominated bands The Invisible and Polar Bear. He co-leads the Okumu Herbert Skinner Trio and regularly collaborates with many of London’s notable players. He also performs solo improvised double bass concerts under his name and\, in 2023\, released the album Nightports with Tom Herbert. \nALICE GRANT is a singer\, composer and choir director from London. Her work ranges from singing with acappella vocal duos to conducting 100-voice choirs\, singing lead vocals for Matthew Herbert’s Big Band\, and writing her music bands\, Moats & Thrones\, Alice & the Cool Dudes\, and Normal Gimbel. As a singer\, she is currently working with Ruth Goller’s Skylla. \nROBYN ROCKET is a space trumpet player and a heart-n-soul artist who believes in the power and talents of people with Learning Disabilities and autism. She runs a regular night of inclusive conscious gigs at Cafe Oto called Robyn’s Rocket. Robyn also makes comics and zines\, is the host of Robyn Rocket’s Zoom Zoom at Resonance FM\, and provides access consultancy for promoters\, venues\, and festivals. \nSpeakers \nJULIET STEVENSON is an English actor and campaigner. Having starred in a wide range of popular films and creative projects\, Juliet has also long-time campaigned for the rights of refugees and migrants and supports Medical Aid Palestine. \nHOLLIE MCNISH Hollie is an award-winning poet\, writer and performer. She is the Sunday Times bestselling author of Slug (and other things I’ve been told to hate) and won the Ted Hughes award for new work in poetry with her poetry and parenting memoir Nobody Told Me. She has two further poetry collections\, Plum and Cherry Pie\, one modern adaptation of the ancient Greek tragedy Antigone and alongside fellow poet Sabrina Mahfouz\, co-wrote Offside\, a play relating the history of UK women’s football. \nJJ BOLA is a Writer\, Poet\, and Educator\, born in Kinshasa\, Democratic Republic of Congo\, and raised in London. His debut novel\, No Place to Call Home\, was published in the United Kingdom/Europe in 2017 with OWN IT!\, and in the United States/North America in 2018– then later translated into French as Nulle Part Oú Poser Sa Tête in 2022 with Mercure de France. His second novel\, The Selfless Act of Breathing\, was published in 2021 the U.K. by Dialogue Books (Hachette) and in the U.S./North America in 2022 by Atria Books (Simon & Schuster). It has also been translated into Brazilian-Portuguese as O Involuntário Ato De Respirar with Dublinese and Weiter Atmen (Keep Breathing) in German with Kampa Verlag—other translations to include Italian\, Japanese and more. The Selfless Act of Breathing has also been acquired for film adaptation. \nTHE REPEAT BEAT POET is a British-born Ghanaian poet and emcee who fuses stream-of-consciousness writing and Hip Hop culture to capture and extend moments\, thought\, and feeling. He has performed across the country and internationally\, with appearances at The Royal Albert Hall\, the Edinburgh Fringe\, Spoken Word Paris\, and he is a multiple slam champion (including the Genesis Slam and Hammer And Tongue) and the reigning Nozslam Champion. Peter also regularly produces & hosts the monthly spoken word nights Boomerang and Pen-Ting and his own Hip Hop & spoken word radio show\, #TheRepeatBeatBroadcast. \nAbout All Our Relations \nFounded by Jen Brister and Georgia Takacs\, ALL OUR RELATIONS believes that every family deserves the chance to live with dignity\, no matter where they come from or what they’ve been through. A playground of dream soundscapes\, where experimental dance meets Klezmer. \n\n\n\nThe final instalment in London Sinfonietta’s fourth series of its pioneering Writing the Future music creation scheme sees visionary multidisciplinary artist Nwando Ebizie turn the traditional concert experience on its head. This groundbreaking new work will use multi-sensory immersion to challenge your perception of reality: poetry expressed in British Sign language and passionate dance create visual music\, whilst vibrations throughout the space create a haptic experience. This multi-sensory theatrical and musical evening oscillates from romantic songs to nightmarish visions\, intimate reverie and lucid horror. \n\n\n\nThe inter-dependent music\, English text and theatrical BSL were created symbiotically to engender many different sensory points of access to the piece whilst creating a unique art-music event. \n\n\n\n‘Looking to the light\, through the dark forests\, meeting here\, beyond the crossroads’ \n\n\n\nWriting the Future offers early career music creators unique opportunities to nurture their talents and to develop a new piece in partnership with a world-class producing ensemble\, and established mentors.
