He will also talk about his life as a general practitioner with emotional and downright stories of patient encounters from the heartwarming to the bizarre\, painting a profoundly revealing portrait of healthcare in twenty-first-century Britain.  Years of underfunding and lack of staff have brought the NHS to a crisis point\, and Dr Amir will argue why it should be saved before it’s too late. \n\n\n\nHe will also detail his journey to becoming a doctor\, something he never wanted to do\, preferring to become a vet. But how many Asian vets do you see? None right. And how many Asian doctors do you see? Bloody loads. DESCRIPTION:Hawiyya Dance Company (UK based) and El-Funoun Palestinian Dance Troupe (Palestine based) present Curfew\, a contemporary dance production. \n\n\n\nCurfew speaks to a world that is numbed and no longer able to respond to the constant bombardment of news\, surveillance and manipulation. It dares to stimulate the development of new reactions and discussions on social activism\, bringing awareness of everyday life experiences and individual self-reflection\, helping us to increase our understanding of and engagement with the world around us. \n\n\n\nThe dance performance’s omnipresent themes of time – past and present – information\, introspection\, frustration and rebellion\, lead us to face existential questions\, whilst living and understanding concepts of opportunity\, privilege\, responsibility and duty. To challenge helplessness and to facilitate action to change\, to become better world citizens\, we have a duty and responsibility to channel important messages to the wider world. \n\n\n\nDevised in 2018 it was displayed with two sell-out nights in March 2018 at Rich Mix\, London and one night in April 2019 in Palestine. The cross-cultural and cross-border partnership proved its strength and ability to deliver thought-provoking messages through an experimental work fusing Palestinian folk dance ‘dabke’ and contemporary vocabulary. \n\n\n\nThis will be one of two UK performances sponsored by the Arts Council\, British Council\, Liverpool Arab Arts Festival and Interpal. \n\n\n\nWebsite: http://www.curfewdance.com \n\n\n\nAbout the artists \n\n\n\nHawiyya Dance Company\n\n\n\nWas founded in 2017 as an all-women’s collective who explores identity\, culture and resistance through dance. The group uses folk dance ‘Dabke’ and contemporary dance to create narrative works that explore themes such as resistance\, oppression\, displacement\, social justice\, and individual and cultural identity. The culturally diverse dancers unite in their commitment to anti-racism and anti-imperialism in all they do. \n\n\n\nEl-Funoun Palestinian Dance Troupe\n\n\n\nIs an independent\, non-profit arts organization established in 1979 by a small number of enthusiastic\, talented and committed artists. Since then\, El-Funoun has been crowned as the lead Palestinian dance company in Palestine\, as well as among Palestinians in exile. El-Funoun led over one thousand performances locally and internationally.
