SUMMARY:Imagination Manifesto – Levent Oyluçtarhan
DESCRIPTION:Imagination Manifesto\, a solo presentation of works by Turkish artist Levent Oyluçtarhan\, invites the viewer into a world with continuously shifting shades\, textures\, and tones. Oyluçtarhan’s paintings brim with an amalgamation of forms and patterns that can be found only within the artist’s vision. \nOyluçtarhan’s work embodies a narrative in which imagination challenges objective values. People\, animals\, places and metamorphosed forms are hidden amongst colours and textures; at any one time these figures can inhabit earth\, sea or space – concurrently\, at times. His research is concerned with the way in which abstract patterns can coexist within concrete forms – thus posing the question: can objective values find a place within an imaginative reality? \nThe visuality of Oyluçtarhan’s paintings is reminiscent of Picasso’s work on the complexity of forms. The works in the exhibition that adopt a monochrome palette suggest a reference to the Cubists’ experiments with depth perception\, and working with the technique of grisaille. The series of works that make use of grisaille are distinguishable by their sole use of black and white. However\, in contrast to this minimal palette\, the rich figurative components of these works make use of distinctive textures and brushstrokes. The striped backgrounds found in the monochrome series are not only suggestive of flags and clothing patterns\, but allow the figures in the foreground to appear more voluminous. \nOyluçtarhan’s works in colour are awash with expressivity\, further emphasized by the undulating shades and tones\, from deep blues to glowing neon. According to Oyluçtarhan\, colour is a very effective tool with which to invoke emotion. The entanglement of bodies leads the viewer to consider the emotional compound of the paintings. Looking closely at the interlacement of the figures\, one encounters natural elements and metamorphosed forms such as flowers\, and the tails and horns of animals. \nThe combination of vivid neon colors\, disfigured human body parts and distorted facial expressions encourages the viewer to unravel the tangle of Oyluçtarhan’s fantasy world. These figures create their own movement across the composition; they exist within their own imaginative reality. \n”I see colour as a gateway to my world\, which I project onto the canvas. Then comes the tissues; then the forms I hide between the tissues. Once this is coupled with the imagination of the viewer\, the story begins. It makes sense to me that the viewer is involved in my paintings by looking at them with their own cultural background and unique imagination. \nI think every colour speaks to a different emotion. Considering the varying hues that inhabit my work\, we find ourselves adventuring through an unlimited narrative. In my paintings\, I add colours\, forms and textures. I’m creating deformations\, metamorphoses; I think it’s all a combination of riches. It is an example of how differences can coexist – it’s the harmony of multiple voices. \nArt is an adventure. Sometimes it’s full of surprises. In each of my paintings\, the viewer embarks on an endless journey. Every time you look at my work\, you see a different form\, a different shape. With my paintings\, I invite you to step away from the reality of the world and embark on a journey into the world of dreams”.\n– Levent Oyluçtarhan \nLevent Oyluçtarhan is a Turkish artist\, born in 1978. He lives and works in Eskişehir and Milas. In 2011\, Oyluçtarhan graduated from Anadolu University’s Faculty of Fine Arts in Eskişehir\, Turkey\, with a degree in Painting. Selected past exhibitions include: Chameleon (2018) and Alga Marina (2017) at Galeri Soyut in Ankara\, Turkey; Frutti Di Mare (2017) at Atatürk Culture Art and Congress Center in Eskişehir\, Turkey; State of Mind (2012) at Gallery Workshop Çamurdam in Eskişehir\, Turkey. \nCurator: Tima Jam\nAssistant Curators: Anastasia Anastasiadou\, Louis Chapple\, Alisa Lisovskaia\,\nMarija Pleskacova\, Arnis Putnins\, Maryam Sajedi

They will also have some examples of real-life investments in startups. \nWe will list the different steps that could help to prepare a plan that will allow founders to document their journey to come \nAbout the speaker: \nHervé earned an Executive MBA from HEC Paris\, ranked in the top 20 worldwide business schools. He also holds different degrees and certificates. \nHervé specialises in critical thinking which allows him to make customized decisions in your own context and not only by applying the books. SUMMARY:No Night So Dark; One family's story of memory stolen and regained
DESCRIPTION:To coincide with Holocaust Memorial Day 2021\, No Night So Dark discussion will tell the remarkable story of the Czech-Jewish Wels family\, from the late nineteenth century through WWII to the present day.\nFREE ONLINE EVENT. Streamed live on the Czech Centre London Facebook page. \nWhen Oxford-based Colin Wels first opened a box that his father Tomáš had kept for decades in the back of a cupboard\, he had little idea what it contained. His father – the only family member to survive the Holocaust – had never spoken about his life before he came to Britain as a 19-year-old in 1939. Through the contents of the box\, made up of hundreds of letters and documents\, photographs\, sketches and drawings\, the immense creative energy of several generations of the family was brought to life. \nThis event will include a discussion chaired by Prague-based journalist David Vaughan with Tomáš’s son Colin Wels and translator Gerry Turner\, who played a key role in helping Colin to find a way back to his family’s past\, and marks the recent publication of “Sancta Familia”\, a humorous – but with hindsight\, hugely poignant – evocation of family life\, written in late 1938 by Tomáš and illustrated by his 13-year-old brother Martin. \nColin Wels will discuss his search for his family’s past with Gerry Turner\, whose translation of the memoir At the Bernards written by Colin’s great-grandfather Šimon Wels marked the beginning of his search. The book offers a vivid picture of life in a Czech village in the second half of the 19th century. The story continues with Colin’s grandfather Rudolf Wels\, a successful architect who worked closely with the influential modernist architect Adolf Loos in pre-First World War Vienna. Another piece of the puzzle is provided by Sancta Familia\, which was also preserved in the box. Written by Rudolf’s sons\, eighteen-year-old Tomáš and thirteen-year-old Martin in Prague at the end of 1938\, it is made up of humorous scenes from the family’s daily life and richly illustrated by Martin\, it depicts the world of a modern middle-class Prague family just before it was drawn into the abyss of WWII. Only Tomáš was to survive the Holocaust\, reaching Britain as a refugee in the spring of 1939. \nThe discussion will be complemented by extracts from Sancta Familia and At the Bernards\, by examples of the family’s rich visual legacy – including Martin’s sketches and Rudolf’s designs as an architect – and extracts from a new podcast series devoted to the family and produced in cooperation with Czech Radio. It will be moderated by writer and journalist David Vaughan\, who has devoted several years to researching the family’s history and has been instrumental in publishing Sancta Familia in a first trilingual (Czech\, German and English) facsimile edition (Triáda\, 2020). He is the author of the exhibition No Night So Dark devoted to the Wels family\, which was held in Prague’s Winternitz Villa in 2020. \nDavid Vaughan is a writer\, broadcaster\, journalist and university lecturer. His debut novel Slyšte můj hlas(2014) won the Czech Book Prize readers’ award in 2015. The book was been published in English by Jantar Publishing as Hear My Voice (2019). He is also author of Battle for the Airwaves (2008)\, a study of the role of the media in the run-up to WWII. For eight years he was editor-in-chief of Radio Prague\, having previously been the BBC’s Prague correspondent. \nOrganised by the Czech Centre London in collaboration with Insiders/Outsiders: Refugees from Nazi Europe and their Contribution to British Culture and Czech Radio.

SUMMARY:WAEL DARWEISH
DESCRIPTION:Blue Rhino Art Consultancy presents Wael Darweish: Ambivalent Self\, a solo online exhibition of the Egyptian artist Wael Darweish. This exhibition will showcase 24 artworks of the artist’s most recent creations\, exploring themes of humanity and society with mixed media consisting of acrylic\, oil pastel and gold leaf on canvas. This exhibition will present the very first online exhibition organised by Blue Rhino Art Consultancy. \nThis visual experience attempts to explore consequences of experiencing long periods of continuous change\, inconsistencies\, anticipation and suppressed actions. Wael Darweish’s foggy scenes and excessive social ambiguity disconnect us from the truth\, becoming a burden on our mentality. Our relationship with all that surrounds us and the inability to predict the future\, along with the emergence of various predictions has led to many changes that affect us both internally and externally. Perhaps our ability is not the secret key to unlock the mystery of conflict within ourselves but to solve mystery itself.\nDarweish concerns himself with the ever changing dynamic of humans and society. Utilizing expressive colours\, lines\, and shapes\, he presents his subject matter as an embodiment of humanitarian expression of freedom. With ambiguous figures\, Darweish’s surrealist paintings explore the barriers that exist between the human body and its surrounding environment. It aims to offer a contemporary language to understand today’s world by blurring the lines between reality and imagination.\nDarweish works with mixed media to create sculptural forms that transcend regular two-dimensionality\, through which he studies and experiments with his use of collage: merging colour\, calligraphy\, textiles\, and various textural media. His recent painting projects have been inspired by movements such as French lyrical abstraction and American colour field paintings\, where large ‘fields’ of flat solid colour harmoniously colonise large areas of the canvas to create a homogenous surface of flat planes. In these works\, Darweish places an emphasis on the overall consistency of form over brush movement and brushstrokes. He is successful in combining two opposing abstract styles with elements of figuration and cognitive representation. Darweish’s fundamental aim is to push the limits of ordinary painting by exploring what photography can add to the canvas – frozen reality and depth of field. \nArt Curator: Tima Jam \nAssistant Coordinator:\nAhwa Habeeb\nDaniel Jim A.
