DESCRIPTION:This workshop brings the weird and wonderful world of clowning into improvised comedy. We take clowning and improv exercises that help us develop a more playful and responsive style to our performance. As well as exploring show formats that could be taken to the stage. \n\n\n\nThis workshop will help you: \n\n\n\n\nBring more play\, physicality and props into your improv\n\n\n\nGive the audience more of what they want by listening and responding to them more\n\n\n\nBe okay with breaking the rules in order to follow the fun\n\n\n\nDiscover old and new improv show formats that benefit most from these techniques\n\n\n\n\nWe do this by looking at various concepts such as: \n\n\n\n\nGame\n\n\n\nThe flop\n\n\n\nFixed point\n\n\n\nMajor / minor\n\n\n\nAudience sensitivity\n\n\n\nBreaking the rules\n\n\n\n\nSuitable for intermediate to advanced improvisers or clowns. You do not need experience in both improv and clowning\, but do need experience in at least one. \n\n\n\nCan’t make these dates? DESCRIPTION:Welcome to improvised comedy! At Playface we focus on joy and comedy through play and a super supportive atmosphere – we’re going to have so much fun. \n  \nWhat will we do? \nOur course takes you through the basics of improv\, playing characters and creating something magical together. Whilst showing you a taster of the different forms that improv comedy can take; short form\, long form\, narrative and more (what does this mean? You’ll find out). We provide you with enough experience and information to decide where to take your improv or comedy journey after the course. \nThink of this as your foundation course in improvised comedy. \n  \nWhy improv? \nAs well as being lots of fun to play with our imaginations and others\, improv can help in all aspects of your life. Improv can help build confidence\, creativity\, compassion\, collaboration and a whole bunch of other things that don’t begin with C. It can help you stay calm in stressful situations\, think on your feet and feel happy playing together in a team. You can read about why Viki started improv here. \n  \nThis course is great if you want to: \n\nConnect with others\, improve your listening and build something together\nBe more comfortable making mistakes and getting joy from them\nHave fun pretending to be plumbers\, wizards and cats with other adults\nBecome more confident in performing and presenting\nTry a few different forms of improv to see which you prefer doing\nFeel more comfortable improvising in other forms of comedy or theatre\n\n  \nDo I need experience? \nNo\, this is for beginners. You don’t need any acting\, performing or comedy experience. In fact\, you don’t even have to have liked drama in school! \nYou also don’t need to be funny or an extrovert. We set the environment to be supportive and collaborative so we’ll all work together to create something beautiful over the 4 weeks. \n  \nThe class takes places every Monday evening from 7pm – 9.30pm across 4 weeks. DESCRIPTION:Ho ho ho and welcome to our Playface Christmas Special workshop on character depth for improv comedy! \n\n\n\nIn this class we’re going to look at loads of different ways you can play a character. Did the audience just shout out Santa as a suggestion? In this class the one way we’re NOT going to play Santa as a big jolly old bearded man giving out presents to kids. Instead we’re going to look at techniques to give different twists and levels of depth to our characters. Breaking ourselves out of our usual go to characters and from playing the obvious stereotypes. \n\n\n\n\nWhat would a dog inspired by Santa be like?\n\n\n\nWhat does Santa Claus the grizzled police detective look like?\n\n\n\nHow do we play a sad Santa recovering from a messy divorce?\n\n\n\nRemember when Santa was bullied at school?\n\n\n\nSanta deals with the stressful reality of being pregnant\n\n\n\n\nThis is an intermediate class so you should have completed an introduction to improv course before (at any school). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Teacher\n\n\n\nCharlie Jackson is an improv comedian and clown\, teaching comedy with Playface\, Hoopla and performing with multiple teams and individually.
