SUMMARY:Written Portraits: A poetry performance and discussion
DESCRIPTION:Hear the stories of patients and staff at a typical London hospital\, told through the poems of Di Sherlock. \n\n\n\nShe shrugs off the memory \n\n\n\nlike a scratchy sweater \n\n\n\nor an old skin\, \n\n\n\nsays cancer is one more curve ball \n\n\n\nLife’s thrown her way. \n\n\n\n‘Written portraits’ is a collection of poems by Di Sherlock drawn from conversations with patients and staff she met during a residency at Charing Cross Hospital and Maggie’s Centre West. \n\n\n\nThe poems are part of the ‘People Like You’ project which sees Di’s collaborators at Imperial College and Goldsmiths University of London investigating perceptions around personalised medicine. The series of 21 portraits explore the ways that preference\, need\, desire\, pleasure and recognition serve as grounds for judging people to be alike. \n\n\n\nAt this lunchtime event\, the Great Exhibition Road Festival brings Di together with anthropologist Sophie Day to discuss the project and the impact this way of getting to know and profile individuals might inform future approaches to a more personalised approach to healthcare. The event will also feature readings of some of the poems. \n\n\n\nWritten Portraits was funded by the Wellcome Trust.

DESCRIPTION:Dig deeper into the world of advance operating theatre and robotics made for  effective surgery. Join the inaugral lecture with Daniel Elson\, a Professor in the Hamlyn Centre for Robotic Surgery\, Institute of Global Health Innovation and Department of Surgery and Cancer\, Imperial College London as he dives into the topic of Light-based technologies such as fluorescence\, multispectral and polarisation resolved imaging are opening up the possibility for in vivo tissue characterization and image-guided surgery using live information feedback. Rather than relying on the naked eye or preoperative MRI or CT scan data\, surgeons in the future operating theatre will see an augmented reality view of the margins of diseased tissues or tumours at the time of the surgery. DESCRIPTION:A workshop that aims to offer leading AI researchers affiliated with Imperial College London\, DATAIA and INRIA a platform to present their latest research on AI and Machine Learning. \nAgainst the backdrop of new AI initiatives from the European Commission\, UK\, and French Governments\, the programme\, held in partnership with the French Embassy in the UK\, is designed as a platform to share scientific views on emerging techniques and applications of AI/Machine Learning\, and to develop Franco-British academic collaboration in related fields. \nDATAIA is the French Government sponsored cluster of 14 institutions working on AI (Paris-Saclay University\, Inria\, CEA\, CentraleSupélec\, CNRS\, Ecole polytechnique\, ENSAE\, HEC\, IFP-EN\, IMT\, INRA\, Evry-Val d Essonne\, University Paris-Sud\, University Versailles – Saint-Quentin-in-Yvelines). \nINRIA is the French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Automation. \nFor more information :- https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/emerging-techniques/ \n
