SUMMARY:MONUMENT: An Interactive One-Woman Comedy Show
DESCRIPTION:What are we building today — and for whom? \n\nStep into a construction site where past and present collide in this politically urgent and defiantly funny performance\, unfolding across two intertwined narratives. \n1948\, Prague: A society rebuilds after WWII\, driven to construct a monumental symbol of power. An artist is pulled into a system that demands loyalty over integrity – a story inspired by the tragic legacy of Otakar Švec and the Stalin Monument in Prague. \nPresent-day London: As Europe is heading for another war\, Bogdan\, a Polish builder and aspiring rapper\, navigates exploitation and loneliness while constructing luxury flats – the new monuments of our time. \nExpect a formally inventive blend of rap\, live comedy\, and physical theatre. This isn’t just a show to watch – it’s one to build. Audience members become fellow workers\, creating a collective experience that explores the migrant journey\, the ideology of hard work\, and the systems that shape us. \nCreated and performed by Polish-British artist Margot Przymierska\,the production is developed in collaboration with The People Speak. \nPost-show conversation \nAfter the performance\, we invite you to stay for a 20–30 minute post-show conversation led by the Czech Centre Director Tereza Šídlová. This is a chance to unpack the ideas behind the show together – from Eastern European identity and cultural memory\, to what it really costs to “make it” in today’s Europe\, and how these questions resonate in a Czech context now. \n\nTickets: \nGeneral Admission – £10 (+ Eventbrite fee)\nSupporter Ticket (artist support contribution) – £13 (+ Eventbrite fee)\nBOOK NOW
