SUMMARY:One Year On The Taliban’s Assault on Women’s Rights.
DESCRIPTION:Afghan women’s charity Rahela Trust urges people to attend a special International Women’s Day event to fight for women’s rights in Afghanistan.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDuring the month of International Women’s Day 2022\, Afghan women saw even more of their rights decimated by the Taliban regime; women must not be employed in offices\, must not leave home and must not enter health centres without mahram. \n\n\n\nOne year on “and the situation for women in Afghanistan is dire”\, comments Rahela Sidiqi\, founder of Rahela Trust\, a charity that supports the marginalised women of Afghanistan. \n\n\n\nThis International Women’s Day\, and the one-year anniversary of unimaginable restrictions on women’s freedom in Afghanistan\, Rahela Trust is calling on people not to forget the women of Afghanistan and continue to pressure their local representatives to keep it on the agenda. \n\n\n\nAt the International Women’s Day event at Second Home\, Rahela Trust will set out six ways in which people can help which will include tangible actions you can take to make a personal impact on championing Afghan women’s education. \n\n\n\nCollective action is crucial to making a difference and helping Afghan women. Rahela Trust is urging allies of the Afghan people to attend the event on 8th March\, enabling them to understand better how they can contribute and effect change. \n\n\n\nMany women have fled Afghanistan\, making a life-threatening journey from their homeland\, but there are many women still living in the country who fear for their lives with every hour that passes. \n\n\n\nEvacuation schemes for Afghans\, such as the ACRS are operating with limited resources. Reports have shown that a team of under a dozen are managing the resettlement scheme\, handling 11\,000 applications with just 1\,500 spaces. In context\, over 500 staff members run the parallel resettlement scheme for Ukrainians. \n\n\n\n“The situation for women worsens day by day\, but this does not mean that we lose our passion for fighting for women’s rights and their right to an education. Afghan women around the world are calling on us to come together and fight alongside them\, and we do that by celebrating our culture and providing a platform for their stories\,” says Rahela Sidiqi. \n\n\n\nOn Wednesday 8th March\, join Rahela Trust along with Afghan journalist Ariana Abawe of Ariana Magazine for an event at cultural workspace venue Second Home\, which will shine a light on the experiences of Afghan refugees and diaspora tirelessly campaigning against the injustices waged by the Taliban in their homeland. \n\n\n\nAriana will be joined by: \n\n\n\n\nFounders of Rahyab Organisation\, blind Afghan disability rights activist Benafsha Yaqboobi and her husband\, Mahdi Salami\n\n\n\nFootballer Sariah Nawrozi Mohseni\n\n\n\nFounder of Rahela Trust\, Rahela Sidiqi\n\n\n\nFormer Afghan Judge Marzia Barbarkhail\n\n\n\n\nTo register for the event\, visit https://secondhome.io/event/whats-next-fighting-for-womens-rights-in-afghanistan/

SUMMARY:Crime and Punishment: Women throughout history
DESCRIPTION:Much of history follows the lives and deaths of men famous for their victories and defeats\, for their rule and legacy. Join bestselling authors Laura Shepherd-Robinson and Suzie Edge at the Museum of London Docklands as they shed light and shift focus onto the female voices that feature in the Executions exhibition and discuss their stories\, crimes and punishments. They will also explore the importance of research when writing\, the gravity of history in fiction\, the darker aspects of London’s Georgian society and our curious history with crime\, decapitation\, and mutilation as forms of punishment. This talk is organised in association with Capital Crime Writing Festival. \n\n\n\nTickets must be purchased in advance via our website or by contacting our Box Office at 020 7030 3300. SUMMARY:Dreamer
DESCRIPTION:Dreamer is a semi-autobiographical performance of an urgent witness about three Black women in Arab society.  \n\n\n\nSalama\, Eman and Juliette. Each is a model of possibility\, representing the choices and challenges faced by Black women in the Arab World. They are confronted with the weight of invisibility. They assert themselves. They love\, hurt\, and heal. \n\n\n\nThrough their interconnected lives\, Dreamer reveals what racism\, misogyny and xenophobia look like alongside culture\, faith and joy. It interrogates regional gender and sexual politics\, the friction between modernity and tradition\, and the generational conflicts which shape how black women relate to each other and themselves. \n\n\n\nDreamer reflects a varied\, textured Black experience that has long been silenced and hidden away. \n\n\n\nLead Creative and Performer: Colette Dalal Tchantcho \n\n\n\nDirected by: Lama Amine \n\n\n\nDreamer was created with a team of eight dedicated artists. For some of these artists\, being named publicly as a collaborator in work tackling themes such as colourism\, queerness\, and the politics of Arab Society could impact their future work\, visa status and physical safety. Listing only those who are safe to be named perpetuates the imbalance of visibility that can happen when white Western collaborators are invited to work in an Afro-Arab space. Therefore\, the creative team has collectively chosen not to be listed in print. Colette deeply appreciates them\, their work\, and their dedication. Please keep in mind that work such as this is supported by significant amounts of invisible labour\, both practical and emotional\, and that work does not end once the production is staged.

SUMMARY:"The Good Women" at Kensington & Chelsea Festival
DESCRIPTION:“The Good Women” is a brand-new funny\, bold and romantic piece of theatre inspired by a true queer love story. \n\n\n\nIt’s the 1960s\, the world is changing. Protesters take the streets against the Vietnam war\, hippies celebrate free love and a young band called “The Beatles” is rising to fame. But not in Switzerland\, where women did not get the vote until the 1970s and were legally confined to the kitchen and household. \n\n\n\nBette\, the star of a popular TV cooking show\, and Trudy\, a housewife\, are about to change that. \n\n\n\nYou’ll laugh\, you’ll cry\, you’ll meet two extraordinary women \n\n\n\n“The poignant two-hander depicts burgeoning love against a backdrop of political struggle. Simply staged\, the romcom plot balances witty humour\, social injustice & emancipation.” – Fringe Biscuit \n\n\n\n“This thoughtful glimpse into the difficulties faced by women in the 1960s is gently uplifting\, An encouragement to continue the fight for change.” – The British Theatre Guide

SUMMARY:After Sex
DESCRIPTION:They’re on the same page. It’s just sex. It doesn’t have to be complicated. \nAnyway\, it wouldn’t work. He hates kissing in the morning. She killed her guinea pigs. He doesn’t speak to his dad. \nThey’re different people. \nIt’s just sex. \n“I’m just worried because I think what I’m being turned on by is the fact that you’re imagining a stable future with me\, whereas what you’re being turned on by is the potential potency of your own sperm.” \nA lyrical\, charged\, sharply observed and genuinely erotic two-hander\, After Sex follows the trajectory of a couple\, told almost entirely through post-coital scenes. It’s about how the sex we have can change us: a love-song to connection and to people’s capacity for changing each other’s lives.
