SUMMARY:Easter Uprising: Urvashi
DESCRIPTION:Urvashi is an independent London-based collective\, formed in January 2023. Inspired by the band’s shared love for traditional and modern music\, they draw equally from Indian Qawwali\, Arabic Tarab\, modal jazz and hard rock. \nTheir tracks layer both original melodies and fresh interpretations of traditional songs\, over grooves reimagined from different musical backgrounds\, combined with extensive improvisation. \nIn recent months\, Urvashi has been undertaking significant artistic development\, investigating how their love of modal jazz and devotional music traditions can engage with UK rave culture\, specifically drum and bass and techno. Drawing inspiration from artists who bridge electronic and jazz traditions\, the collective is developing an entirely new performance practice that translates electronic dance music into improvisation-led formats.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a joyous afternoon of rebellious song & dance for all the family. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOpen to dancers of all ages and abilities (no experience necessary!) \nIt’s Burns for the Bairns! Come to the stunning venue of Grand Junction this January for a jolly knees-up as we celebrate Scotland’s favourite son\, Robert Burns. Don the tartan and tam o’shanters\, and let’s get that floor shaking! \nOur very own house band\, the Ceilidh Liberation Front\, will provide the soundtrack to the afternoon. \nWith the Ceilidh Liberation Front\, you can expect London’s most radical & colourful live band\, subverting the lore of Ceilidh with their energetic folk dance regime. They breathe vigour and vitality into the traditional ceilidh whilst honouring its roots and traditions. \n  \nDress code: Grand Junction has a strict no-heels policy for this event. Other than that there is no dress code\, kilted and un-kilted are all welcome. Come as splendid as you like!
