SUMMARY:Train to Teach London
DESCRIPTION:People in London are being encouraged to join a virtual careers event to find out more about life as a teacher. The session\, part of a national recruitment drive\, aims to inspire more people in the region to join a unique profession that helps shape the lives of the next generation. \nThe free virtual Train to Teach event will take place on Saturday 30th January 2021 from 10am to 1pm and will be supported by a local teacher Dimitra Totikidou from Orleans Park School Twickenham. At the event\, maths teacher Dimitra will be live on the platform to share her experience and insights\, as well as helping others to explore teaching as a career. \nThe Train to Teach events are part of the national Get into Teaching campaign which provides a comprehensive programme of support to help graduates become teachers. Last year alone\, thousands of aspiring teachers attended a series of face-to-face events. For this academic year and in light of ongoing Covid-19 restrictions\, events are being hosted online so anyone curious or set on a career in teaching can still speak to current teachers from their area\, as well as expert advisers who can help them with training options and next steps. \nReflecting on her career to date\, Dimitra\, a maths teacher at Orleans Park School in Twickenham\, said: \n“I’m proud to be supporting the campaign and I would encourage anyone who is just starting out in the world of work\, or looking to switch jobs\, to consider a career in teaching. \n“Teaching is such a varied role\, from the emotional rewards of making students feel like anything is possible to using your experience to bring lessons to life – no two days are the same. The best part of it for me\, is the feeling of making a change in young people’s lives and that as teachers we learn and develop new skills every day to accommodate our students’ needs. Also\, working with kids is fun\, refreshing and life changing. \n“I know the impact good teachers can have on a child\, not just in terms of academic success but in teaching a child the importance of social skills\, promoting resilience\, self-worth and confidence.” \nRoger Pope\, spokesperson for the Get Into Teaching campaign and a National Leader of Education\, said: \n“It’s a wonderful feeling knowing that every lesson is helping to shape the life of a young person. \n“As well as the immense satisfaction of witnessing students learn and knowing you are influencing who or what they might become\, teaching enables you to tap into your talents and passion for a particular subject. \n“It also offers some competitive financial rewards and long-term prospects. \n“Anyone who feels they have the passion and potential to teach should join us for this virtual event.” \nTo gain access to the online event\, people will need to register at least two working days in advance. On the day\, upon entering the virtual event platform\, attendees will be greeted with welcome videos and introductory presentations to give them a flavour of teaching. They can also enter the live marketplace where there will be experienced teacher training advisors\, current teachers and local teacher training providers who can answer any questions. \nYou could receive a £24\,000 tax-free bursary to train as a teacher\, in selected subjects\, and newly qualified teachers start on a minimum starting salary of £25\,000 to £32\,000\, depending on location. \nApplications for teacher training\, starting in September 2021\, are now open.

Information will be also available about how to fund your training – you could get a tax-free bursary of up to £24\,000 to train as a teacher\, in selected subjects. \nReflecting on her career to date\, Dimitra Totikidou\, a maths teacher at Orleans Park School in Twickenham\, who will be sharing their experience and insights at the event\, said:   \n“I’m proud to be supporting the campaign and I would encourage anyone who is just starting out in the world of work\, or looking to switch jobs\, to consider a career in teaching. \n“Teaching is such a varied role\, from the emotional rewards of making students feel like anything is possible\, to using your experience to bring lessons to life – no two days are the same. The best part of it for me is the relationships that you form with your students and the feeling that you are supporting them to achieve their goals. \n“I know the impact good teachers can have on a child\, not just in terms of academic success but in teaching a child the importance of social skills\, promoting resilience\, self-worth and confidence.” \nBeing a teacher means having an impact on students well beyond the classroom years. In research of over 2\,000 people for Get into Teaching\, two fifths (40%) of adults surveyed in England work in a job or career related to one of their favourite subjects from their time at school\, and almost three quarters (74%) of those surveyed who have a favourite subject\, said their teachers’ passion for the subject helped spark their interest in it. \nRoger Pope\, spokesperson for the Get Into Teaching campaign and a National Leader of Education\, said: \n“It’s a wonderful feeling knowing that every lesson is helping to shape the life of a young person. \n“As well as the immense satisfaction of witnessing students learn and knowing you are influencing who or what they might become\, teaching enables you to tap into your talents and passion for a particular subject. \n“It also offers some competitive financial rewards and long-term prospects. \n“Anyone who feels they have the passion and potential to teach should join us for this Train to Teach event in London.” \nThe free Train to Teach event is being held at Congress Centre\, 28 Great Russell Street\, London\, WC1B 3LS on Saturday 11th June 2022 from 10am to 2.30pm. Registration in advance is advisable but visitors can turn up and register on the day. \nAs a teacher you can help create a society where everyone\, wherever they live\, regardless of gender\, race\, ethnicity\, education or age has the opportunity to succeed. The Get Into Teaching service has experienced advisers available to give free support and advice. To find out more about a career in the classroom and the range of recruitment events being held this term\, visit: https://getintoteaching.education.gov.uk\, or call the Get Into Teaching Line on 0800 389 2500.

SUMMARY:Innovations for a Sustainable Future - Private Viewing
DESCRIPTION:PRIVATE VIEWING: Thursday 13 July\, 6:30-8:30pm \n\n\n\nFree entry\, registration necessary (more info on website\, see below) \n\n\n\nA brand new interactive exhibition touching on the fast-evolving digital revolution as well as the pressing challenges faced by our generation. With both Europe and the world undergoing a major technological transformation\, new phenomena such as artificial intelligence are slowly making their way into all aspects of our lives\, from communication to health\, from culture to sustainability. What are the innovations and scientific discoveries shaping our future? \n\n\n\nThe Innovations for a Sustainable Future exhibition seeks to create a dialogue between science\, society\, culture\, and art. Its main aim is to address current global issues and the inevitable role science and new technologies will play in reaching the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set up by the United Nations in 2015 as a blueprint for a better\, more sustainable future for all. The 17 SDGs were adopted by all UN member states agreeing to work on\, among other things\, a plan to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger\, achieve gender equality and avert climate threats by 2030.This interactive augmented reality exhibition was artistically rendered by the renowned Czech graphic designer Pavel Fuksa\, drawing from the concept of the successful Czech Innovation Expo which travelled the world presenting Czech scientific discoveries and innovations. The new London exhibition highlights innovations and issues on a European level\, reflecting the higher purpose of science with special emphasis on the means needed to implement the ambitious SGDs. \n\n\n\nHow the Exhibition Works \n\n\n\nVisitors will see seemingly static outdoor panels with abstract symbols on the walls. After downloading the exhibition app (available free for Android and iOS)\, they will see the space around them come to life on their devices\, allowing them to explore in a fun and unique way a variety of scientific stories and fascinating information about technological innovations contributing to our sustainable future. \n\n\n\nRegistration necessary: \n\n\nRegister on Eventbrite\n\n\nExhibition Website: \n\n\n\n\nExhibition dates: 14 July – 30 September\n\n\n\n\nThe exhibition was created by the Czech Centres in collaboration with the Czech Technology Agency. Organised by the Czech Centre London in association with the Czech Embassy.
