SUMMARY:London Sinfonietta: Night Shift with Cathy Milliken- Unique Audience Participation Concert
DESCRIPTION:“When my cue comes\, call me\, and I will answer.” Bottom\, A Midsummer Night’s Dream \nCathy Milliken’s new work takes inspiration from Shakespeare’s ‘fourth-wall’-breaking play A Midsummer Night’s Dream to blur the line between dreams and reality\, rehearsal and concert\, and audience and performer. This new kind of concert is a blend with an immersive musical experience where audience participation is central to its concept. Featuring an amateur choir alongside the London Sinfonietta and two soloists\, the piece will be determined by contributions from the audience\, who will also be equipped with a variety of percussion instruments to add a particular sonic layer to work. \n \nPart of the London Sinfonietta OPEN\, a series dedicated to involving the public as creators and performers\, is a concert experience. \nPart of the “Connect” series of commissions\, supported by the Arts Mentor Foundation Lucerne

SUMMARY:London Sinfonietta: Tapestries
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by large Bruegel and Ody Saben paintings and Grayson Perry’s Walthamstow Tapestry\, Writing the Future composer Alex Paxton’s kaleidoscopic new piece is a busy and sensually colourful tapestry that depicts all aspects of our society. The work is a riot of colour in sound\, written to include the sound from a series of improvisatory workshops with local schoolchildren; the piece is a riot of colour in sound. \nAlongside this\, the premiere of an important new commission from American composer\, performer\, and scholar of experimental music\, George Lewis.

SUMMARY:Xenakis: Architect of Sound
DESCRIPTION:Step into the musical world of Iannis Xenakis in his centenary year: a ferociously intellectual world in which the mathematical forces which govern the atoms and elements making up our physical beings also provide the basis for musical form and understanding. Xenakis’ joyously visceral aesthetic shocked even the musical avant-garde in the 1950s and even now comes across as stunningly and unpredictably futuristic\, even as its subject matter conjures up ancient gods and monsters. \n\n\n\nThe London Sinfonietta has long had a close relationship with Xenakis and his music\, commissioning and performing the premiere of Phlegra in 1976 and with the composers who drew influence from Xenakis’ new sonic architecture. \n\n\n\nIannis Xenakis  O-megaIannis Xenakis  PalimpsestIannis Xenakis  ÉchangeIannis Xenakis  Thalleïn \n\n\n\nPhilip Howard  solo pianoMark van de Wiel  solo clarinetGeoffrey Paterson  conductorLondon Sinfonietta

SUMMARY:The Good Women
DESCRIPTION:It’s the 1960s and from the counterculture to Woodstock\, the world is changing. But not in conservative Switzerland\, where women did not get the vote until the 1970s and were legally confined to the kitchen and household. Bette\, the star of a popular TV cooking show\, and Trudy\, a housewife\, are about to change that. \n\n\n\n“The Good Women” is a brand-new funny\, bold and romantic piece of theatre inspired by a true story about two extraordinary women.

SUMMARY:DOG HAIR at VAULT Festival 2023
DESCRIPTION:‘Asbestos ceilings don’t break like glass’ \n\n\n\nAfter the death of SON’s Nan\, SON returns to his hometown\, but MAM’s boyfriend\, MIKE\, not from the area\, has other ideas about what’s best for them.  As the town’s grip re-takes its hold\, SON struggles to suppress his rising grief\, tensions with MIKE intensify\, and there can only be so long until the levy breaks. Lost\, angry and broken\, SON is forced to confront the question: can you ever truly leave the place you’re from? Full of wit\, warmth and unstereotyped working-class charm\, bite and tenderness\, DOG HAIR is about the struggle between place and identity and how ‘No matter how far you go from home\, you’ll always have dog hair on your clothes’. (May also include instances of Genesis). \n\n\n\nA quick-witted\, lyrical and devastating new 3-hander\, DOG HAIR is written by Phillip Jones (BWL BOY – BBC WALES\, Best Actor: It’s My Shout for PACKAGED – BBC Wales)\, and produced by Rachel Thomas (Associate Producer: WHOLE\, Wildcard Theatre’s multi award-winning RUCKUS) for 7th Sense Theatre\, a company existing to make ‘class theatre\, without the divide’. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nABOUT 7TH SENSE \n\n\n\nSeventh Sense Theatre Ltd is a registered company founded in 2018 to create ‘class theatre\, without the divide’. They produce work for & about people whose stories go untold\, give those audiences a voice\, & most importantly\, take those shows to them. They aim to provide a platform for artists to take risks & develop through collaboration\, regardless of experience or class background.  In 2020 they were selected for Wildcard Theatre’s 4 OF A KIND scheme for ‘4 of the UK’s most exciting emerging companies’. SUMMARY:SURFACING
DESCRIPTION:NHS therapist Luc is fine. Honest. She’s definitely not overwhelmed by meeting Owen\, a new client\, definitely not freaked out by what she’s started seeing\, definitely doesn’t think her reality has been punctured and something else is leaking in. Luc goes for a swim and feels a hand dragging her down to the bottom of the lake… \nWhen she surfaces\, her reality is different. SUMMARY:Gould Piano Trio
DESCRIPTION:The famous Gould Piano Trio perform a concert of German masterworks\, culminating in Schubert’s B-flat trio\, one of the triumphs of the trio repertoire. They pair this with Haydn’s late E major trio\, in turn playful and highly expressive\, and a trio by Heinrich Marschner. Marschner (1795-1861) was regarded as one of the most important composers in Germany in the nineteenth century\, a friend of Beethoven and Mendelssohn and a strong influence on Schumann. Particularly well known for opera and lieder\, his chamber works also have an operatic and vocal quality\, especially in their beautiful and distinctive melodies.
