SUMMARY:Innovations for a Sustainable Future (AR Interactive Exhibition)
DESCRIPTION:PRIVATE VIEW: Thursday 6 October 2022\, 6 – 8 pm \nExhibition: 06 Oct 2022 – 02 Dec 2022\, Mon-Fri 10 am – 6pm \nFree entry\, registration necessary (more info on website\, see below) \nA brand new interactive exhibition touching on the fast-evolving digital revolution as well as the pressing challenges faced by our generation. \nBoth Europe and the world are undergoing a major technological transformation. New phenomena such as artificial intelligence are slowly making their way into all aspects of our lives\, from communication to health\, from culture to sustainability. What are the innovations and scientific discoveries shaping our future? \nThe Innovations for a Sustainable Future exhibition seeks to create a dialogue between science\, society\, culture and art. Its main aim is to address current global issues and the inevitable role science and new technologies will play in reaching the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set up by the United Nations in 2015 as a blueprint for a better\, more sustainable future for all. The 17 SDGs were adopted by all UN member states agreeing to work on\, among other things\, a plan to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger\, achieve gender equality and avert climate threats by 2030. \nThis interactive augmented reality exhibition was artistically rendered by the renowned Czech graphic designer Pavel Fuksa\, drawing from the concept of the successful Czech Innovation Expo which travelled the world presenting Czech scientific discoveries and innovations. The new London exhibition highlights innovations and issues on a European level\, reflecting the higher purpose of science with special emphasis on the means needed to implement the ambitious SGDs. \nHow the Exhibition Works \nVisitors will enter a seemingly empty room with only abstract symbols on the walls. After downloading the exhibition app (available free for Android and iOS)\, they will see the space around them come to life on their devices\, allowing them to explore in a fun and unique way a variety of scientific stories and fascinating information about technological innovations likely to shape our future. \nThe exhibition was created as a joint project of the Czech Centres and the Czech Technology Agency. It is part of the 2022 Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU Programme. \nThe London exhibition is organised  by the Czech Centre London and the European Parliament Liaison Office in the United Kingdom.

SUMMARY:Galapagos Day 2022: PROTECTING SPECIES AND PREVENTING EXTINCTIONS
DESCRIPTION:Galapagos Day 2022\n\n\nJoin us on 20 October 2022 to hear from the experts working in the field to save species from tortoises to birds.   \nBiodiversity loss is one of the biggest environmental threats we face today and constitutes a global crisis that needs to be tackled with the same urgency as climate change. Galapagos is one of the most unique\, scientifically important biodiversity hotspots on Earth\, yet even here\, more than 80 species are now listed as either Critically Endangered or Endangered. Though the Islands may appear pristine\, they are threatened by climate change\, invasive species\, overfishing\, urbanisation and plastic pollution. \nGalapagos Conservation Trust is dedicated to the conservation of the Galapagos Islands. For over 25 years\, we have protected biodiversity\, restored habitats and saved endangered species from extinction by raising funds and awareness and by delivering ground-breaking\, impactful conservation projects. We are supporting partners to investigate wildlife health\, such as that of the iconic Galapagos giant tortoise; undertaking vital research to ensure the effective management of the new Hermandad Marine Reserve; and restoring habitats on islands such as Floreana\, which will be the first inhabited island in Galapagos to have rats and feral cats eradicated. \nOn Galapagos Day 2022\, we will explore the threats to biodiversity in Galapagos. We will hear directly from experts working at the cutting edge of science to save species ranging from giant tortoises to woodpecker finches. \nSpeakers will include:\nMonty Halls (host) \nDr Ainoa Nieto Claudín\, researcher\, a wildlife veterinarian and laboratory manager of the Charles Darwin Research Station. \nPaula Castaño\, wildlife veterinarian at Island Conservation.

SUMMARY:Innovations for a Sustainable Future - Private Viewing
DESCRIPTION:PRIVATE VIEWING: Thursday 13 July\, 6:30-8:30pm \n\n\n\nFree entry\, registration necessary (more info on website\, see below) \n\n\n\nA brand new interactive exhibition touching on the fast-evolving digital revolution as well as the pressing challenges faced by our generation. With both Europe and the world undergoing a major technological transformation\, new phenomena such as artificial intelligence are slowly making their way into all aspects of our lives\, from communication to health\, from culture to sustainability. What are the innovations and scientific discoveries shaping our future? \n\n\n\nThe Innovations for a Sustainable Future exhibition seeks to create a dialogue between science\, society\, culture\, and art. Its main aim is to address current global issues and the inevitable role science and new technologies will play in reaching the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set up by the United Nations in 2015 as a blueprint for a better\, more sustainable future for all. The 17 SDGs were adopted by all UN member states agreeing to work on\, among other things\, a plan to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger\, achieve gender equality and avert climate threats by 2030.This interactive augmented reality exhibition was artistically rendered by the renowned Czech graphic designer Pavel Fuksa\, drawing from the concept of the successful Czech Innovation Expo which travelled the world presenting Czech scientific discoveries and innovations. The new London exhibition highlights innovations and issues on a European level\, reflecting the higher purpose of science with special emphasis on the means needed to implement the ambitious SGDs. \n\n\n\nHow the Exhibition Works \n\n\n\nVisitors will see seemingly static outdoor panels with abstract symbols on the walls. After downloading the exhibition app (available free for Android and iOS)\, they will see the space around them come to life on their devices\, allowing them to explore in a fun and unique way a variety of scientific stories and fascinating information about technological innovations contributing to our sustainable future. \n\n\n\nRegistration necessary: \n\n\nRegister on Eventbrite\n\n\nExhibition Website: \n\n\n\n\nExhibition dates: 14 July – 30 September\n\n\n\n\nThe exhibition was created by the Czech Centres in collaboration with the Czech Technology Agency. Organised by the Czech Centre London in association with the Czech Embassy.

SUMMARY:Inspiring Change and Driving Innovation in Safeguarding
DESCRIPTION:Get ready to be inspired and ignite innovation in safeguarding at our in-person event. \n\n\n\nInspiring Change and Driving Innovation in Safeguarding is a symposium brought to you in collaboration with Senso.Cloud and Birmingham City University as part of our ongoing Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) to mark Safer Internet Day 2024. In keeping with the theme of Safer Internet Day\, which is ‘Inspiring Change’\, the symposium will centre on the latest developments in child safeguarding technology\, especially those benefitting from linguistics\, natural language processing\, and AI. Our symposium comes at a time when: \n\nNSPCC reported an 82% rise in online grooming crimes against children from 2018 to 2023.\nAnti-Bullying Alliance reported that 1 in 5 children aged 10 to 15 years old have experienced online bullying.\nOfcom reported that in 2022\, 1/3 of children aged 8 to 15 years old saw something ‘worrying or nasty’ online.\n\nInspiring Change and Driving Innovation in Safeguarding will be a showcase of how academic and industry innovation can reduce these concerning statistics and keep children\, aged 5 to 18 in schools in the UK and beyond\, as safe as possible online. The symposium is free to attend and will take place at Birmingham City University’s STEAMhouse on 8th February 2024\, 1.00 – 4.30pm. As shown in the programme below\, the symposium will feature talks from academics\, Edtech industry representatives\, and charitable organisations at the forefront of online safeguarding. \n\n1.00pm: Welcome to Inspiring Change and Driving Innovation in Safeguarding\n1.10pm: The Challenge of Online Safeguarding\, David Wright\, UKSIC and SWGfL\n1.40pm: Insights from the Knowledge Transfer Partnership\, Dr Charlotte-Rose Kennedy\, Renato Software Ltd and Birmingham City University\n2.00-2.30pm: Coffee break (with informal networking and poster session)\n2.30pm: Online Child Sexual Grooming Discourse\, Professor Nuria Lorenzo-Dus\, Dr Craig Evans and Ruth Mullineux-Morgan\, Swansea University\n2.50pm: The Language of Children’s Online Disclosures of Abuse\, Dr Mark McGlashan\, Birmingham City University\n3.10pm: Deep Learning Approaches to Detecting Safeguarding Concerns in Schoolchildren’s Online Conversations\, Dr Emma Franklin\, independent researcher\, and Dr Tharindu Ranasinghe\, Aston University\n3.30pm-3.40pm: Coffee break\n3.40pm: Roundtable and Q&A\n4.20: Closing remarks\n\nWe hope that the symposium will be an opportunity for us all to learn and network\, and to continue to drive innovation in online safeguarding. \nPlease also note that there is an opportunity to share your posters\, banners and promotional materials at the symposium. Alongside our scheduled talks\, we welcome delegates to submit materials related to the theme of Inspiring Change and Driving Innovation in Safeguarding to be displayed throughout the day and for informal discussion during coffee breaks. Please email c.kennedy@senso.cloud if you would like to submit a poster\, display a banner\, and/or set up a table to promote your organisation. Please note that there is limited space\, so displays will be selected based on how well they fit the theme of the symposium.
