SUMMARY:The Long Play Sessions: Paul Sexton with Rock Goes to College (Special performance from Freya Everest)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special evening with Paul Sexton\, acclaimed music journalist\, author and broadcaster\, as he explores his latest book Rock Goes to College — the definitive\, untold story of the UK university gig circuit that launched a generation of legendary artists. With an opening performance by talented singer-songwriter Freya Everest\, this one is not to be missed!  \nIn Rock Goes to College\, Sexton traces the rise of Britain’s student gig circuit during the late 1960s and 1970s. This grassroots touring network became a proving ground for emerging artists during the explosion of rock music and the album era. As new universities and polytechnics opened across the UK\, bands criss-crossed the country in battered vans\, playing student unions\, honing their sound and chasing the dream of a record deal. \nDrawing on extensive original interviews and his unrivalled access to artists and industry figures\, Sexton tells remarkable early-career stories of acts including Pink Floyd\, Led Zeppelin\, The Who\, Queen\, Elton John\, Fleetwood Mac\, Genesis\, Nick Drake\, AC/DC and Dire Straits — as well as the student promoters and social secretaries who booked them\, many of whom would go on to shape the modern music industry themselves. The book also reveals how Paul McCartney and Wings returned to this circuit post-Beatles to road-test a new band from the ground up. \nPart music history\, part social history\, Rock Goes to College captures a vital moment when higher education\, youth culture and live music collided — shaping careers\, communities and the future of British rock. \nWhat to expect\n\nAn in-depth conversation with Paul Sexton on the stories and research behind Rock Goes to College\nInsight into the UK’s university gig circuit and its role in developing iconic artists\nDiscussion on music journalism\, biography and documenting cultural history\nAudience Q&A\nA live and intimate acoustic performance from Freya Everest\nBook signing opportunity — bring your copy or purchase one on the night\n\nWe look forward to welcoming you to The Long Play Sessions for an entertaining\, insightful and nostalgia-rich evening uncovering one of the most influential — and least documented — chapters in British music history. \nAbout The Long Play Sessions\nThis event forms part of The Long Play Sessions\, a curated series hosted by ICMP Music School\, celebrating influential writers whose work has shaped how we understand music\, culture and creative history. Each session brings landmark books to life through live conversation\, historical context and deep industry insight.

SUMMARY:Colin Blunstone: Believe In Miracles Tour
DESCRIPTION:Colin Blunstone\, lead singer of The Zombies and acclaimed Solo Artist\, returns to UK stages with the “Believe In Miracles” Tour\, his first national solo outing in 7 years.  The tour title is a nod to Blunstone’s 1972 hit “I Don’t Believe In Miracles” (penned by Argent singer/guitarist Russ Ballard)\, but is also a reflection on his remarkable 7-decade career.  Blunstone relates\, “I joined The Zombies as a teen\, thinking it would be a two or three-year adventure.  Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined it would lead to a lifetime in music…and that at the tender age of 80\, I’d be the subject of a documentary\, recording a new album and embarking on a major tour!  His career-spanning show will feature classics from The Zombies\, favourites from his solo releases and collaborations\, and debut new material from his forthcoming studio album.   \nThe Bangles’ Susanna Hoffs said it best during her heartfelt speech inducting The Zombies into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in March 2019:  “Colin…your voice is just plain sexy!” \nThe world first fell in love with that mysteriously silky voice from The Zombies’ 1960s singles “She’s Not There”\, “Tell Her No” and “Time of the Season”.  The band’s untimely demise in late 1967 led Blunstone into a solo career which began in earnest with the release of the lush and string-laden One Year in 1971\, produced by former Zombies’ bandmates Rod Argent and Chris White\, which scored him a Top 15 UK hit with Denny Laine’s “Say You Don’t Mind”.  He has released 10 albums of his own over a period spanning more than 50 years\, including 1972’s Ennismore and 1974’s Journey\, and has lent his remarkable pipes to the recordings of many others\, most notably the Alan Parsons Project\, who featured Blunstone on their 1982 hit “Old and Wise\,” as well as on several albums.  \nA chance reunion with Rod Argent in 1999 brought about a 25-year resurgence for The Zombies\, prolifically touring the world and releasing new material.  In the midst\, Blunstone still managed to record three solo releases – The Ghost Of You And Me in 2009\, On The Air Tonight in 2012 and most recently\, the EP Less is More in early 2024\, a set of 5 sparsely-recorded demos showcasing those velvety vocals accompanied only by acoustic guitar. \nBlunstone celebrated his 80th birthday in June at the London premiere of Hung Up On A Dream: The Zombies Documentary\, the first-ever feature film chronicling the band’s journey from teenage friends to Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductees (now available on AppleTV and Amazon).   \nWith Argent’s retirement for health reasons in 2024\, Blunstone is refocusing on his solo career while also continuing to celebrate the legacy of The Zombies.  A new album is planned for release in 2026.

SUMMARY:The Long Play Sessions: Dan Jennings with Paul Weller Dancing Through the Fire
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an intimate and expansive evening with award‑winning broadcaster and journalist Dan Jennings\, as he discusses DANCING THROUGH THE FIRE: The Authorised Oral History of Paul Weller\, the first fully authorised and definitive oral account of one of Britain’s most influential and enduring musical figures. \nThis event forms part of The Long Play Sessions\, ICMP’s curated series celebrating transformative writers\, artists and cultural voices who shape how we understand music\, identity and creative expression. Each session opens a window into the stories behind the art — blending conversation\, cultural history and lived experience. \nHosting the evening will be acclaimed author Daniel Rachel and joining as a guest will be Go! Discs founder Andy Macdonald. \nIn DANCING THROUGH THE FIRE\, Jennings traces the extraordinary creative life of Paul Weller\, from the explosive urgency of The Jam\, through the ambitious sophistication of The Style Council\, to a prolific and uncompromising solo career spanning more than three decades. Built from over 200 hours of interviews with more than 250 contributors\, including Weller himself; the book offers an unprecedented\, collective portrait of a musician whose influence has defined generations. \nDrawing on unique access to Weller’s inner circle of family\, friends\, bandmates\, producers and collaborators\, Jennings reveals the drive\, discipline and restless creativity behind a career that continually resisted nostalgia and commercial complacency. The result is candid\, generous and richly revealing — capturing not just the myth\, but the man at the centre of one of British music’s most remarkable artistic journeys. \nFar more than a standard biography\, DANCING THROUGH THE FIRE explores the realities of longevity\, reinvention and creative survival. It reflects on class\, culture\, fandom and the personal cost of sustaining artistic integrity in the public eye\, while charting how Weller became one of the very few artists to achieve Number One albums across five consecutive decades. \nPaul Weller’s story — creative\, uncompromising and continually evolving\, speaks to anyone who cares about music as a cultural force. It asks what it takes to remain vital\, curious and true to yourself when the world expects you to stand still. \nAlready hailed by critics as a landmark work of music journalism\, DANCING THROUGH THE FIRE is being recognised as the definitive account of one of Britain’s greatest artists. \nTickets available here and currently on a limited 2-4-1 offer – https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-long-play-sessions-dan-jennings-paul-weller-dancing-through-the-fire-tickets-1987599404323?aff=oddtdtcreator \nWhat to Expect\n\nA talk from Dan Jennings exploring the making of DANCING THROUGH THE FIRE\, the interview process\, and the challenge of capturing a living legend through many voices\nIn‑depth discussion of creativity\, longevity\, reinvention and artistic integrity across five decades of British music\nBehind‑the‑scenes insight into Jennings’ unprecedented access to Paul Weller and his closest collaborators\nReflections on class\, fandom\, cultural legacy and why Weller’s music continues to resonate across generations\nAudience Q&A\, offering the chance to engage directly with Jennings about his research\, the writing process and Paul Weller’s cultural impact\nBook signing — bring your copy or purchase one on the night\n\nWe look forward to welcoming you to The Long Play Sessions for a thoughtful\, energising and unforgettable evening celebrating one of modern music’s most vital and uncompromising creative figures. \n\n\n\nLocation\nThe Venue\, ICMP (Queens Park Campus)\, NW6 6PA

SUMMARY:The Long Play Sessions: Scott Rowley with Stay Alive: The Life and Death of Stuart Adamson
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a powerful and deeply human evening with author and music journalist Scott Rowley as he discusses STAY ALIVE: The Life and Death of Stuart Adamson — the first fully co‑operative and definitive account of the life\, legacy and tragic death of one of Scotland’s most influential and enigmatic musicians. \nThis event is part of The Long Play Sessions\, ICMP’s curated series spotlighting transformative writers\, artists and cultural voices who shape the way we understand music\, identity and creative expression. Each session opens a window into the stories behind the art — blending conversation\, cultural history and lived experience. \nIn STAY ALIVE\, Rowley traces the remarkable rise and haunting decline of Stuart Adamson\, founder of both The Skids and Big Country. Drawing on unprecedented access to Adamson’s family\, bandmates\, private writings and never‑before‑seen material\, Rowley paints a vivid portrait of a man whose talent\, turmoil and working‑class pride helped define a generation of post‑punk and alternative rock. \nFrom the chaotic energy of late‑70s Scotland\, to global fame with Big Country\, to the battles with addiction\, trauma and depression that shadowed his later years\, Rowley’s narrative is unflinching\, tender\, and profoundly revealing. Far more than a music biography\, STAY ALIVE explores the weight of expectation\, the wounds we carry from childhood\, and the quiet struggles that fame can magnify rather than soothe. \nAdamson’s story — tragic\, inspiring and heartbreakingly human — resonates far beyond his era. It asks what it means to be an artist\, a father\, a survivor… and what happens when the world sees only the legend\, not the man. \nWith praise from critics and musicians alike\, this long‑overdue book is already being hailed as a definitive work on one of Scotland’s most compelling creative figures. \nTickets available here and currently on a limited 2-4-1 offer – https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-long-play-sessions-scott-rowley-with-tony-butler-stay-alive-tickets-1987598655082?aff=oddtdtcreator \nPurchase the book here:\nhttps://bit.ly/stayalivescottrowley \nWhat to Expect\n\nA talk from Scott Rowley exploring the making of STAY ALIVE\, the revelations uncovered\, and the emotional weight of telling Adamson’s story\nIn‑depth discussion of creativity\, trauma\, addiction\, fame\, and the pressures placed on artists in the post‑punk and alternative rock scenes\nBehind‑the‑scenes insight into Rowley’s research\, interviews and unprecedented access to Adamson’s family and archives\nReflections on legacy\, working‑class identity and how one man’s music resonated across generations\nAudience Q&A\, offering the chance to engage directly with Rowley about Adamson’s life\, the writing process and the cultural impact of The Skids and Big Country\nBook signing — bring your copy or purchase one at the event\n\nWe look forward to welcoming you to The Long Play Sessions for a moving\, honest and unforgettable evening centred on one of Scotland’s most important — and most misunderstood — musical icons. \n\n\n\nLocation\nThe Venue\, ICMP (Queens Park Campus)\, NW6 6PA

SUMMARY:100 FLOWERS + THE YUMMY FUR
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents… \n100 FLOWERS\nTHE YUMMY FUR\nFriday 31 October\nNew River Studios\, 199 Eade Rd\, Harringay\, London\, N4 1DN\n7.30pm | £10 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/teff2cfdc2f2 \n100 FLOWERS are a post-punk band from Los Angeles\, California\, active primarily in the early 1980s. The group evolved from the politically charged punk outfit The Urinals\, who were known for their raw\, minimalist sound and radical brevity\, many of their songs clocked in under a minute. As their musical interests expanded and matured\, the trio mutated into 100 Flowers in 1981\, taking their name from Mao Zedong’s “Hundred Flowers Campaign\,” a brief period in Chinese history encouraging open expression. The new moniker reflected their increasingly sophisticated and experimental approach to music\, while maintaining a subversive\, critical edge. \nThe band consisted of the same core lineup from the Urinals: John Talley-Jones (vocals\, bass)\, Kjehl Johansen (guitar\, vocals)\, and Kevin Barrett (drums). Under the 100 Flowers name\, they moved beyond the stark minimalism of their previous incarnation\, embracing more complex song structures\, abstract lyrics\, and an eclectic mix of influences ranging from Wire and Gang of Four to Captain Beefheart and Pere Ubu. Their sound retained punk’s urgency and DIY ethos but integrated funk\, avant-garde noise\, and jarring time signatures\, all hallmarks of the emerging post-punk genre. In 1983\, 100 Flowers released their self-titled LP on the independent label Happy Squid Records\, which they co-founded. The album was critically well-regarded within underground circles\, praised for its angular guitar work\, sharp lyrical content\, and inventive rhythms. Songs like “Sensible Virgins” and “Motorboat to Hell” showcased their unique fusion of intelligence\, irony\, and punk rebellion. The group disbanded in 1983\, but their influence endured. Both 100 Flowers and the Urinals became cult favorites\, especially among later generations of punk\, indie rock\, and lo-fi musicians. Their music was rediscovered and reissued over the years\, including a retrospective compilation\, 100 Years of Pulchritude\, which brought renewed attention to their groundbreaking work. \nhttps://100flowers.bandcamp.com/album/100-flowers \nTHE YUMMY FUR are Glaswegian DIY pop legends with their energetic mix of angular riffs\, super-short songs and biting social commentary. Consisting of lead singer and guitarist John McKeown and an interesting line-up of other musicians\, the band were favourites of John Peel and recorded two Peel Sessions\, as well three totemic albums: ‘Night Club’ (Slampt / Guided Missile\, 1996)\, ‘Male Shadow at Three O’Clock’ (Vesuvius\, 1998) and ‘Sexy World’ (Guided Missile\, 1998). All three are essential. The group disbanded in 1999\, and ten years later ‘Rock Action’ released ‘Piggy Wings’\, a compilation of their best 7” and album tracks. The band have since reformed to play with a line up featuring original members John McKeown\, Paul Thomson and Brian McDougall. \nhttps://theyummyfur.bandcamp.com/album/piggy-wings

SUMMARY:MICHAEL BEACH + EXPIRY + CAROLINE NO
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents… \nMICHAEL BEACH\nEXPIRY\nCAROLINE NO\nFriday 1 August\nThe Lexington\, 96-98 Pentonville Rd\, Angel\, London\, N1 9JB\n7pm – 10.30pm | £9 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/uc37b4f150b4 \nMICHAEL BEACH is a Melbourne-based and Californian-born musician. On his fifth LP\, Big Black Plume\, Beach reveals the vitalizing power of connection in an often hostile world. Equally informed by the songwriting of Bill Fay and Peter Laughner\, the minimalism of Tony Conrad and Terry Riley\, and the rock and roll heart of the Goner Records roster\, Big Black Plume provides deliberate compositions adorned with genuine madness. The songs on this album range from spare\, textural ballads\, to spiraling psychedelic overtures connected to a propulsive cosmic pulse. \nThe songs here aren’t stick-and-poke songs that will dry and fade on the skin\, aimless prayers for jams; Beach has been making deliberate things for decades. Big Black Plume is a record about connections\, mercurially curated\, transforming individual contributions into something strikingly communal. For years\, Beach has been carefully fostering musical connections – for Big Black Plume is out July 25th\, 2025\, on vital independent labels Poison City (Australia) and Goner Records (US / Rest of World). Beach will support Big Black Plume with headlining tour dates and festival appearances in Australia\, the United States\, and Europe\, including Gonerfest in Memphis\, TN\, Rising in Melbourne\, Dark Mofo in Tasmania\, and Binic Folks Blues Fest in France. \nhttps://michaelbeach.org/ \nEXPIRY are a 5 piece band based in London. Centred around the songwriting of Australian expat Louis Forster (formerly of The Goon Sax) the band began as a two piece with Sonny Barrett (Adulkt Life) in 2022. From early shows that featured primitive drum beats played off phones the band has evolved slowly into a roaring five piece complete with duelling guitars\, piano and brothers. \nhttps://www.instagram.com/expiry__/ \nCAROLINE NO is a psychedelic-folk project based in London and built around the songwriting of Caroline Kennedy. Recordings of the group have been described as commanding in their nonchalance\, allowing the listener to feel like they are living within the open boundaries of the song. A “unique\, beguiling sound sits somewhere between archetypal Dunedin pop and languorous\, textural improvisation” (Students of Decay) and “no-fi\, anti-folk ditties that channel an anarchic spirit” (Chris Cobcroft 4ZZZ). Caroline No have released three albums No Language (World News / Students of Decay)\, Swimmers (King Crab) and Caroline No (Grapefruit Record Club). \nhttps://carolinenohello.bandcamp.com/album/no-language \n

SUMMARY:DEERHOOF - Live Music
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents… \nDEERHOOF\nMonday 28 July\nTuesday 29 July\nBush Hall\, 310 Uxbridge Rd\, Shepherds Bush\, London W12 7LJ\n7.30pm | £18 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/u14f27627efa  / https://link.dice.fm/I74bac87ba3a \nDEERHOOF long ago established themselves as one of the greatest rock groups ever to stride the earth\, the furiously inventive quartet releases new albums on the schedule of a young band still hungry for its first break. Their latest album ‘Noble and Godlike in Ruin’ (their 19th studio album) is either a portrait of a world descending into monstrous hate\, dehumanization\, and dollar signs\, or a haunting self-portrait of band-as-monster\, singing tirelessly of love\, increasingly alienated from that world. Songs crash and break apart\, then reassemble in surprising and delightful new fashion. \nThe music is joyful and foreboding\, cybernetic and deeply human\, all at once. Strings that evoke avant-garde chamber music and classic horror-film soundtracks bounce off guitar and bass lines that chug on impervious to the creeping dread. The drums are sometimes filtered to sound almost electronic\, but no computer could come up with rhythms so funky and dynamic\, with each minute variation from one snare hit to the next conveying worlds of possibility. The world may be going down\, but Deerhoof is going down swinging. \nFor this pair of shows in London\, Deerhoof will be performing different sets each night\, featuring material from ‘Noble and Godlike in Ruin’ alongside epic tracks from their extensive back catalogue!\nhttps://deerhoof.bandcamp.com/ \n

SUMMARY:CALLAHAN & WITSCHER + BLUES ANGLES
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents… \nCALLAHAN & WITSCHER\nBLUES ANGLES\nFriday 14 February\nThe Shacklewell Arms\, Dalston\, London\, E8 2EB\n7.30pm | £8 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/ic571250f2f8 \nCALLAHAN & WITSCHER is the project of NYC-based musicians Jack Callahan and Jeff Witscher. Witscher has been one of the most daring voices in underground American music for two decades\, highlighted by releases on Pan and NNA Tapes. Callahan’s focused\, uncompromising approach to sound caught the attention of both Demdike Stare’s DDS label and Swiss composer Jürg Frey\, who took Callahan on as his first composition student. Fans of their individual work might expect opacity\, disruption\, or rhythmic irregularity from their collaboration\, but their debut LP ‘Think Differently’ sounds like a pitbull in a convertible\, a sand-kicking beach party\, the dopamine hit you get from 311 or Smash Mouth. It’s a punchy\, crunchy\, highly infectious record. How did Callahan & Witscher cut the path from the ghostly margins of avant garde musics to the gutters of post-grunge American hard rock? In the words of Callahan\, “at some point\, you start to need a stronger drug.” \nThe most potent characteristic of this stronger drug is the guitar. And not just any guitar\, but a sassy\, contagious\, blithe guitar. Its presence is a drastic shift for two guys who’ve combined to make dozens of records over the years\, not a single one of which has a recognizable guitar sound on it. Alongside the cool breezes and hyperactive fretwork of Callahan’s guitar playing\, the songs are backboned by strutting\, groove-happy vocals: all bark\, all bite. Every song is a careful collage\, light but dense\, ornate with gang choruses\, soulful femme vocals\, autotune and whisper scratches. This accumulation almost manages to hide the record’s potent undertow of dread. ‘Think differently’ was released by Post Present Medium last September. \nhttps://callahanwitscher.bandcamp.com/…/think-differently \nBLUES ANGLES are a two piece formed in 2023 comprising Sian Dorrer (Ravioli Me Away\, HMS RMA\, Bomber Jackets and Plug) and David Campbell (I’m Being Good and Nightshift). They make music by recycling rhythms\, lyrics and melodies to create their own home studio recorded offerings. Influences range from Ween to The Glitter band. Their first recording was the Ruby themed ‘Ruby demos’ which was written to celebrate their friend’s Ruby Wedding anniversary. 2025 foretells an album\, European summer tour and specially commissioned song about wine.

SUMMARY:MARCEL WAVE - ‘Something Looming’ album launch! + THE PHEROMOANS
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents… \nMARCEL WAVE – ‘Something Looming’ album launch!\nTHE PHEROMOANS\nFriday 14 June\nMOTH Club\, Old Trades Hall\, Valette St\, London\, E9 6NU\n7pm-10.30pm | £10 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/t6d6b5967c40 \nMARCEL WAVE write eulogies for tragic actresses\, ancient riverbeds and concrete obscenity. Their inaugural sonic instalment ‘Something Looming’ (out June 14th on Upset The Rhythm) is part trades club symphony\, part itchy serenade\, and part wistful lament. As their heady concoction of ‘Meades meets Pat-E-Smith meets Kirklees Borough Council’ gets prepped to be formally baptised on a dank stage near you\, Upset the Rhythm and Feel It Records have dutifully stepped in to deliver its songbook to the masses on both sides of the pond.\nFormed when Lindsay Corstorphine and Christopher Murphy of Sauna Youth and brethren Oliver and Patrick Fisher of Cold Pumas were summoned by northern ink-slinger Maike Hale-Jones\, Marcel Wave’s debut offering is a walk through a smoke-filled pub with yellowing wallpaper and all eyes on you. It’s a chronicle of the death of the docklands\, the decline of industry\, of the high street\, of civic pride\, of civilisations\, of hopes and dreams. As Hale-Jones delivers the bad news in her low\, West Yorkshire brogue\, Corstorphine adds the bells and whistles via the frantic pulsations of a wheezing Hohner organ in tandem with Fisher O’s rasping guitar. Marcel Wave are completed by the throbbing basslines of Murphy and Fisher P’s fervent rhythms. Join Marcel Wave as they dance to society’s decline with a lukewarm pint in both hands at this album launch!\nhttps://marcel-wave.bandcamp.com \nTHE PHEROMOANS are tenants of an unruly domain. Over the last 18 years the group have evolved from garage rock primitivists to auteurs of their own curious sound; a frothy brew of loose electronics\, refractory rock and humdrum musing. Their songs are mutable\, capricious\, unreliable narrations\, often withholding as much as they reveal. Russell Walker’s understated vocal has always been the band’s unifying focus\, it is wry\, unsparing and wilfully honest. Walker’s lyrics are an observational tour de force\, sometimes droll\, yet often tipping over into unlikely pathos. With previous releases on Upset The Rhythm\, Convulsive and Alter\, 2024 will witness The Pheromoans return with lucky album number 13\, entitled ‘Wyrd Psearch’ (out now 1st on Upset The Rhythm). With The Pheromoans there is always a familiarity at play\, only broken and reassembled\, like a bygone sitcom gone rogue in your memory. This contributes to the group’s peculiarly British outsider perspective\, one that shouts from the sidelines\, but never goes unnoticed.\nhttps://upsettherhythm.bandcamp.com/album/wyrd-psearch

SUMMARY:The Zombies: Celebrating 60 Years On Tape
DESCRIPTION:THE ZOMBIES Celebrating 60 Years On Tape From “She’s Not There” to “Different Game” Plus Very Special Guests \n\n\n\nThe 2024 Tour band members are the current line-up of: Rod Argent (Keys and vocals) Colin Blunstone (Lead Vocals)\, Steve Rodford (Drums)\, Tom Toomey (Guitar) & Søren Koch (Bass) \n\n\n\nThe Zombies formed in the historic Cathedral city of St Albans in 1961 with Argent and Blunstone\, alongside Chris White (Bass)\, Paul Atkinson (Guitar) and Hugh Grundy (drums).  Their first single ‘She’s Not There’ on Decca Records\, rocketed to the top of the charts in 1964 on both sides of the pond. They were the second UK band following The Beatles to score a #1 hit in America\, infiltrating the airwaves with sophisticated melodies\, breathy vocals\, choral back-up harmonies and jazzy keyboard riffs. The original line-up disbanded just prior to achieving their greatest success – the worldwide chart-topping single ‘Time of the Season’\, from their swan-song album ‘Odessey and Oracle’\, ranked in the Top 100 of Rolling Stone’s ‘500 Greatest Albums of All Time.’  To this day\, generations of new bands have cited The Zombies’ work as pop touchstones\, and the band continues to be embraced by new generations of fans.

SUMMARY:HOUSE Of ALL + THE COURTESY GROUP
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents… \nHOUSE Of ALL\nTHE COURTESY GROUP\nThursday 18 April\nThe Dome\, 2A Dartmouth Park Hill\, Tufnell Park\, N19 5QH\n7pm | £18 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/wac85b671659 \nHow odd it is that the first reports of the existence of HOUSE Of ALL only appeared only early this year\, followed by a magnificently-received debut album and two UK tours. \nPraise was immediate and ecstatic\, in spite of controversy from former management of The Fall\, who took offence at Martin Bramah’s off-the-cuff description of the band as “part of The Fall family continuum”. Despite this self-evident fact – Bramah was The Fall’s original singer before switching to guitar\, and with the other members (Peter Greenway\, Paul Hanley\, Steve Hanley and Si Wolstencroft) HOUSE Of ALL collectively spanned the entire length of The Fall’s career. Controversy arose\, resulting in a full Guardian article on the band months before the album’s release – a scant three days after it was announced.\nTheir two brief tours were flawless; nearly every show sold out\, and the latter tour was bolstered by “Bay City Pistols”\, a limited package that sold out in two weeks.\nEven before the first album was released\, HOUSE Of All re-entered the studio to record a still-mysterious second album\, which will be debuted on the April 2024 dates.\nhttps://houseofall.bandcamp.com/album/house-of-all \n  \nTHE COURTESY GROUP are set apart in their own musical galaxy as Birmingham’s own tunemongering grinesters. They survive against fashion\, mediocrity\, systematic dullness and impossible odds. Marmite to most musical confectionery\, their debut album ‘Tradesman’s Entrance’ and its successor ‘Second City Liquor’ have aired on BBC6’s Stuart Maconie’s Freakzone\, Jarvis Cocker’s Sunday Service and Guy Garvey’s Finest Hour (and previously on The John Peel Show on Radio 1)\, as well as receiving glowing reviews from Mojo\, Uncut\, Louder Than War and Stewart Lee in ‘The Sunday Times’: live\, they remain consistently dangerous and a robust antidote to a fully digitalised itunes world.\nhttps://thecourtesygroup.bandcamp.com/ \n

SUMMARY:THE UMBRELLAS + SWANSEA SOUND + AUTOCAMPER
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents… \n\n\n\nTHE UMBRELLASSWANSEA SOUNDAUTOCAMPERWednesday 13 MarchOSLO\, 1a Amhurst Road\, Hackney Central\, London\, E8 1LL7.30pm | £13 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/ee39bba86945 \n\n\n\nTHE UMBRELLAS are four renegade romantics crafting irresistible indie pop hymns. The band’s self-titled 2021 debut album became a breakout moment\, winning critical praise and sparking an international tour. Follow-up LP ‘Fairweather Friend’ goes a step further – absorbing the sonic attack of their live shows\, it balances this with studio finesse\, allowing the San Francisco four-piece to become the band they’ve always aspired to be. \n\n\n\nIt’s a record overflowing with highlights. The candyfloss melodies of introductory track ‘Three Cheers!’ are matched to an impactful percussive punch; ‘Say What You Mean’ finds The Umbrellas working with total confidence\, letting the song ride out to its chiming conclusion\, four voices working in precision. ‘When You Find Out’ offers rotating notes of guitar punctuated by a vocal that pushes past angst to accept a world full of hope. A lean 10 track affair\, it grasps towards beatific pop while fuelled by a sense of risk\, and the precision that comes from long months on the road.Taken as a whole ‘Fairweather Friend’ is a bold indie pop triumph\, crafted with purpose and attention. Taking their time over each note\, the four-piece have strengthened their songwriting\, adding depth and assurance while unlocking their potential. Some bonds last a lifetime – The Umbrellas are ready to capture your heart.https://theumbrellasca.bandcamp.com/album/the-umbrellas \n\n\n\nSWANSEA SOUND are Hue Williams (The Pooh Sticks)\, Amelia Fletcher and Rob Pursey (both Talulah Gosh/Heavenly\, The Catenary Wires)\, Bob Collins (The Dentists\, The Treasures of Mexico)\, Ian Button\, (Death in Vegas\, with Louis Philippe\, Pete Astor and Papernut Cambridge). Swansea Sound’s recent album Twentieth Century was released by Skep Wax Records. On this second album of unapologetic indie pop and punk they sing about things like Pete Shelley\, vinyl\, online shopping and getting older.https://swanseasound.bandcamp.com/album/swansea-sound \n\n\n\nAUTOCAMPER are a four-piece jangle pop band playing scuzzy C86-inspired music.
