DESCRIPTION:L.A. SALAMI: \nAs much a philosopher as a popsmith\, articulate and versatile. One of the premier lyricists of his generation\, he remains curious\, still distinguishing the illusory from the eternal\, the true from the beguiling; keeping the faith\, in his own cynical yet impassioned way. \nL.A. Salami (Lookman Adekunle Salami) is a singer/songwriter from London\, known for crafting magnetic blues-rock songs with a postmodern twist.His love for music began when he first heard Bob Dylan on the radio\, subsequently leading him to explore more blues and folk music and inspiring him to write his own songs; unfortunately\, however\, he could not afford his own instrument and wasn’t introduced to one until he was given a guitar for his 21st birthday. After three months of soul-searching\, tapping into different creative avenues\, and sleeping rough\, Salami eventually had his first few songs written and set out to land some gigs. Success soon came knocking after relentless gigging\, starting with a tour support slot for Lianne La Havas in 2012. The rest is history. \nSTAGE DOOR GUY: \nA Mancunian walks into a bar in New Orleans. He staggers past a guy downing his 5th neat whiskey. They form a band. Stage Door Guy is a post-punk blues duo mash up of Professor Longhair\, The Dead Kennedys and Dr John Cooper Clarke. With three acclaimed albums under their belt\, they were described by Louder Than War’s John Robb’s as: “… a quirky off-kilter slice of snarky swing with a rocking core” \nTheir latest album is the critically acclaimed ‘Stage Door Guy Beach Party’

Witscher has been one of the most daring voices in underground American music for two decades\, highlighted by releases on Pan and NNA Tapes. Callahan’s focused\, uncompromising approach to sound caught the attention of both Demdike Stare’s DDS label and Swiss composer Jürg Frey\, who took Callahan on as his first composition student. Fans of their individual work might expect opacity\, disruption\, or rhythmic irregularity from their collaboration\, but their debut LP ‘Think Differently’ sounds like a pitbull in a convertible\, a sand-kicking beach party\, the dopamine hit you get from 311 or Smash Mouth. It’s a punchy\, crunchy\, highly infectious record. How did Callahan & Witscher cut the path from the ghostly margins of avant garde musics to the gutters of post-grunge American hard rock? In the words of Callahan\, “at some point\, you start to need a stronger drug.” \nThe most potent characteristic of this stronger drug is the guitar. And not just any guitar\, but a sassy\, contagious\, blithe guitar. Its presence is a drastic shift for two guys who’ve combined to make dozens of records over the years\, not a single one of which has a recognizable guitar sound on it. Alongside the cool breezes and hyperactive fretwork of Callahan’s guitar playing\, the songs are backboned by strutting\, groove-happy vocals: all bark\, all bite. Every song is a careful collage\, light but dense\, ornate with gang choruses\, soulful femme vocals\, autotune and whisper scratches. They make music by recycling rhythms\, lyrics and melodies to create their own home studio recorded offerings. Influences range from Ween to The Glitter band. Their first recording was the Ruby themed ‘Ruby demos’ which was written to celebrate their friend’s Ruby Wedding anniversary. 2025 foretells an album\, European summer tour and specially commissioned song about wine.

DESCRIPTION:The Music for Youth Proms are back for a two-day musical extravaganza! On 14th and 15th November 2023\, thousands of amazing young musicians will perform alongside each other on stage at the iconic Royal Albert Hall. Two special and unforgettable evening concerts will showcase full-scale symphony orchestras alongside Irish dancers\, Japanese Taiko drummers\, rock and pop bands\, Jazz ensembles\, and some of the best young singer-songwriters from the UK. \n\n\n\nThis year’s theme will centre on a national campaign #thankyourmusicteacher\, to celebrate inspiring music teachers and how music brings us all together. \n\n\n\nThe Proms will feature its biggest creative project\, with a medley of songs written by radio presenter\, composer and Music for Youth Ambassador Jack Pepper. The musical is a thank-you note from Jack to his inspiring piano teacher and a celebration of music teachers far and wide. The massed ensemble will feature 2\,500 people and a specially commissioned ‘Family Chorus’ where families nationwide can get involved! \n\n\n\nThere will be surprise guests and solo performances on both nights. It’s the first time that SMOOSH! has been performed in London\, and it’s an uplifting\, free event for people of all ages and backgrounds\, which you don’t want to miss! \n\n\n\nDozens of Paraorchestra musicians and professional dancers will be joined by local performers for the rip-roaring kaleidoscopic pop music parade\, playing a lively mix of well-known classics from the likes of Fatboy Slim\, Kate Bush\, Massive Attack\, Basement Jaxx and Adele\, on the wind\, brass instruments and drums. \n\n\n\nSMOOSH! Newham is presented with Plaistow South Big Local and Culture Within Newham\, and there are two parades\, the first setting off from New City Primary School at 3:30 pm and the second from Jeyes Estate at 5:30 pm. \n\n\n\nIt’s joyous\, and the crowds are encouraged to dance and sing along. Everybody’s welcome – it’s free\, so turn up! \n\n\n\nComposed by multi-instrumentalist Emma-Jean Thackray and directed by award-winning conductor Charles Hazlewood\, with choreography by Tom Jackson Greaves with Beth Hinton-Lever\, SMOOSH! is Paraorchestra’s biggest commission to date. \n\n\n\nFormed by its Artistic Director\, Charles Hazlewood\, Paraorchestra brings together professional disabled and non-disabled musicians to produce and perform high-quality new work and exciting interpretations of classical and popular music.
