SUMMARY:noisenight49: jeneba kanneh-mason
DESCRIPTION:Star pianist Jeneba Kanneh-Mason performs music by Claude Debussy\, Franz Liszt\, Dmitri Shostakovich\, and Sergei Prokofiev in a secret Soho bar underneath Denmark Street. \n\n\n\nwhat are noisenights? \n\n\n\nnoisenights are our vision for the future of classical music: informal\, crowdfunded events featuring international soloists in bars\, converted warehouses\, and nightclubs. \n\n\n\nthe venue: \n\n\n\nThe Lower Third is a brand new grassroots live music space\, just off London’s historic Denmark Street. Under its previous guise as 12 Bar Club the venue was renowned for hosting early shows for acts who went on to reach stardom\, including Adele\, Regina Spektor and Jeff Buckley. \n\n\n\nThe venue reopened in 2022 as The Lower Third\, honouring the name of a former band of David Bowie – one of Denmark Street’s famous regulars. \n\n\n\nthe music: \n\n\n\nJeneba will showcase her favourite solo piano repertoire\, including Franz Liszt’s iconic Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2\, Sergei Prokofiev’s Sonata No. 7\, and pieces by Claude Debussy and Dmitri Shostakovich.

SUMMARY:Looking Bach: 300 Years Since the Well-Tuned Keyboard
DESCRIPTION:To finish 2022 with a celebration\, Vache Baroque is taking over the wonderful Conway Hall in London! World-class pianists\, a harpsichord\, an organ\, a jazz trio\, two vocal consorts\, surround-sound electronics\, two rooms full of art related installations\, a photo booth…! This exciting collection of musicians and artists will showcase two timeless collections by Johann Sebastian Bach compiled around 300 years ago: his ‘Well-Tempered Clavier’ Book 1\, which has rightly gone down in history as a benchmark for keyboard composition\, exhibiting pieces in all possible keys; and a scrapbook-style collection of pieces for keyboard and voices compiled in 1725 with his soprano wife Anna Magdalena. \nThis really is an evening for everyone to enjoy\, where we will showcase Bach’s genius and craft from some unexpected angles. Our main players – Libby Burgess (piano) and David Gordon (harpsichord and jazz piano) – will give short talks\, explanations\, and demonstrations over the course of the main event to make sure nobody feels out of the loop\, and with the installations and art pieces beforehand Bach-the-composer will truly be brought to life. \nAfter the performance\, our jazz musicians will carry on the party so you can relax into some socialising over drinks and food\, just like Bach and his family were experts at doing!

First\, Apekisheva will perform Shostakovich’s 24 Preludes\, a collection of short pieces in all twenty-four keys\, taking the audience through various moods across the complete set. By contrast\, acclaimed Debussy player Noriko Ogawa will play Debussy’s 12 Prèludes\, Book One\, an imaginative collection that includes some of his most popular piano pieces; The Girl with the Flaxen Hair and The Sunken Cathedral. \n\n\n\nAward-winning jazz pianist and composer Vijay Iyer will perform a solo improvised set. Roberts’ book – Reading Franz Liszt – explores the inspiration Liszt drew from Petrarca’s poetry\, revealing the link between two significant artists born 500 years apart. Charles Owen will complete the Liszt theme with a programme devoted to some of the glorious music inspired by the composer’s spirituality and faith.

SUMMARY:Shkoon / Rima Album Tour / London
DESCRIPTION:MARSM UK & The Jazz Cafe are proud to announce all-conquering electronic trio Shkoon’s biggest London show to date at The Jazz Cafe. \nLaunching their anticipated new album ‘Rima – ريما’\, the renowned Syrian/German electronic trio returns to London for a headline show. \nCombining Arabic scales and folklore with classical harmonic structures and electronica\, their new album further develops the band’s celebrated sound to include deep house\, downbeat\, dub and hip-hop. Powerful melodies and rhythms from Syria and the Middle East meet the pulse of North German electronica\, while piano\, violin\, synthesizers and percussion take the audiences into a trance-like state that is as captivating as it is danceable. \n‘Rima’\, the title song of the debut album is inspired by a story from Arabic folklore\, in which a mother tells peaceful tales to her child as the world sinks into chaos. \nEl Jehaz الجهاز join on support. Reshaping the boundaries between traditional Arabic music and electronica\, producer El Jehaz has become a key player in the digitalised rebirth of Mijwiz and electronic Dabke\, an unstoppable folkloric music phenomenon from Jordan and Palestine.

SUMMARY:Timberlina and Dr Aspalls' Agitated Piano Cabaret
DESCRIPTION:After years spent communing with nature on a small rock on the East Sussex coast\, legendary glamorous bearded drag lady Timberlina and jazz piano rebel Dr Aspalls bring you their Agitated Piano Cabaret at The Golden Hinde. \nThis show is a hilariously profane\, joyously sardonic and entirely original musical adventure encapsulating the frustrations of what it means to be compassionate in an otherwise dispassionate world of rampant consumerism. \nFrom tongue in cheek blues to Sondheim-inspired melodies\, heartfelt lullabies and good old rock n roll\, this show will leach you feeling ecstatic\, euphoric and empathic just when you thought you were all alone. \nIt’s a teasing show that playfully teeters on the tip of awareness and bewildering rage through a series of uplifting songs spanning such topics as fatbergs\, ocean plastics\, smart phones\, milk\, packaging and of course\, Michael Gove! \nSo if you’re keen to save the world and prefer to do so over a glass of fizz or looking to wind down after a hard day of environmental direct action\, this show is for you! \nA joyous line up of totally original songs about over-consumption\, ultra-low emission zones and eco-anxiety amongst other topical titbits. From tongue in cheek cha-cha-cha\, borrowed Bach bridges and traditional twelve-bar-blues. \nTimberlina\, the world’s number one environmentally friendly drag lady\, cult bingo caller and homespun museum guide has been gracing stages round the world for over a decade. Meanwhile the illusive keyboard legend that is Dr Aspalls has haunted pubs\, bars and late-night jazz clubs across the South East for many years with his inimitable finger tinkling and capacity for capturing catchy cadences. \nExpect minimum patter and maximum music from this exceptional bearded duo so before we fall off the precipice of eco-armageddon why not come along to a riotous sing song on this legendary ship?
