SUMMARY:Paris: a new climate champion? - Online taster course

SUMMARY:The Glass Door Sleep Out (or in) 2020
DESCRIPTION:Glass Door Homeless Charity is holding both a physical and virtual Sleep Out on 2 October this year to raise vital funds for individuals facing homelessness. \nThe event is due to take place at the Duke of York Square in Chelsea for the eighth year running\, if government guidance allows. The virtual elements will ensure participants can feel connected regardless of where they take part. \nActors Colin Firth and Jim Carter will be reading a poem and a bedtime story\, accessible to all participants and supporters as part of the virtual live-streamed event. Plus\, sleep specialist Dr Kat Lederle will offer her insights on why a good nights’ rest is so important\, and Nadia Mishchanka will host an early-morning yoga session. Additional guests will be announced closer to the date. The line-up will also feature interviews with event participants\, shelter guests and front-line staff.

SUMMARY:Havel
DESCRIPTION:New biopic contrasting Václav Havel’s moral stand as a human rights activist with his flawed private life\, buiding up a captivating portrayal of the man who has become an icon.UK Premiere. \n\n\n\nDir. Slávek Horák\, Czech Republic 2020\, English subtitlesCast: Viktor Dvořák\, Anna Geislerová\, Martin Hofmann\, Barbora Seidlová \n\n\n\nHavel\, up close and personal: such is the new biopic by director Slávek Horák of the critically esteemed Home Care. Focusing on the period 1968 – 1989 and Havel´s personal life\, Horák explores Havel´s metamorphosis from internationally celebrated but persecuted playwright to banned and jailed human rights defender and finally to president of Czechoslovakia. But it is his relationship with his first wife Olga\, suffering from her husband’s infidelities\, that is at the centre of the story. Situations from his life such as the secret police witnessing his failed attempt to resolve a love tringle in a restaurant mirror his absurdist plays\, provide humour and emotion while Horák’s imaginative use of actual theatre settings to stage key moments from Havel’s confrontations with communist power document his public persona. An excellent cast including Viktor Dvořák capturing Havel’s moments of uncertainty and weakness\, and Anna Geislerová as direct and decisive Olga\, complement a portrayal depicting not an icon but a flawed man who steps out of his comfort zone to become politically engaged. Watch out for news footage from Havel’s life under the end credits including the Rolling Stones in Prague castle. \n\n\n\nNominated for The Czech Lions 2020 Best Actress\, Best Actor\, Best Screenplay and the Czech Film Critics Awards. \n\n\n\n“It is the personal life that helps the viewer to experience the story. Because few people can identify with being jailed or fighting against the Communists\, as Havel did. But everybody can identify with a marital crisis or relationship problems\, which Havel – like all of us – had with Olga.” Slávek Horák \n\n\n\nThe film will be available to rent (from UK only) for £6.99 from 10:00 on Sunday 1 November GMT till 10:00 on Wednesday 4 November 2020 GMT on Czech Centre Vimeo on Demand via https://vimeo.com/ondemand/havel \n\n\n\nBONUS: Q&A WITH DIRECTOR SLÁVEK HORÁK \n\n\n\nOrganised by the Czech Centre as part of Made in Prague ON/OFF Festival.

SUMMARY:Shadowlight Artists: Luminous exhibition - Online Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Click on the website URL to enter the virtual gallery showing Luminous\, the latest exhibition by the Shadowlight Artists. The Shadowlight Artists are a group of seven artists with learning disabilities based in Oxfordshire and supported by arts charity Film Oxford: Wendy Belcher\, Tom Breach\, Mark Hemsworth\, Russell Highsmith\, Richard Hunt\, Lucy Skuce and Danny Smith. The Shadowlight Artists’ films from the exhibition will also be screened at a special event on 5 December at 3pm at the Together! 2020 Disability Film Festival where they are regular contributors. \nThe exhibition is diverse in media and subjects\, and features painting\, photography\, animation\, dance\, artist films and sculptural installation. The works explore ideas such as personal relationships with the landscape\, bullying and historical portraiture. Other work draws on a huge range of emotions from joy to sorrow\, humour to exasperation. All of the work represents honest responses to the day-to-day world from this unique group of artists. \nCommencing in late summer 2019\, Luminous has been defined by the lockdown\, as the Shadowlight Artists\, freelance professionals and Film Oxford were forced to find new and innovative ways to work collaboratively at a distance. They liaised with the artists’ family members and their support and care organisations to draw up individual plans\, so that the group’s production work could continue during the pandemic. \nThe body of work presented in the exhibition does not engage with the COVID-19 crisis directly\, but it is influenced by it due to the radically different working methods used to create the show. The enforced experiment in distanced artistic collaboration has opened up new possibilities for the future activities of the group\, offering a pathway towards artistic collaborations not limited by geographical separation\, and towards a greater potential for inclusion for Disabled artists if given sufficient resources. \nSome of the works will also be exhibited in two physical galleries in Oxford in early December\, Modern Art Oxford and Arts at the Old Fire Station\, dependent on lockdown conditions.

SUMMARY:Making History Festival: Live Art with Gobscure and Rebecca Redican
DESCRIPTION:Live Art performance night\, featuring introductions and performances from Gobscure: Hyena in Petticoats and Rebecca Redican: Delay Six. \n\n\n\nhyena in petticoats is a defiant performance and exhibition that takes its starting point as the 18th-century writer and activist Mary Wollstonecraft\, who was erased as a ‘hyena in petticoats’. The performance is accompanied by images of the costumes and other items used within it\, together with a downloadable pamphlet with art and activities including placards to sloganise\, templates for masks of defiance\, and other creative resistance activities offering ways of remembering\, creating living memorials to ensure we are not written out of history. The exhibition will also include work previously created in response to Mary Wollstonecraft but not available online until now\, including 25 visual poems. \n\n\n\nDelay Six (an anagram of Dyslexia) is an interactive work which explores the difficulty that people with dyslexia face every time they pick up a book\, but also the beauty this can create. Rebecca and anyone who wishes to join in will make a shared piece of online live visual art which will be created before and during the performance evening. Anyone can be involved\, so if you wish to participate\, ‘like’ the Delay Six Art Facebook page to keep up to date and find out how you can take part at home. https://www.facebook.com/DelaySixArt

SUMMARY:Adjust the Procedure
DESCRIPTION:Spin Cycle in association with JCS Theater Company presents The World Premiere of ADJUST THE PROCEDURE\, a new play by Jake Shore (The Devil Is On The Loose With An Axe In Marshalltown\, Holy Moly\, and Down The Mountain And Across The Stream) conceived during the pandemic and created with Zoom theater in mind. It’s early Fall 2020 and the pandemic consumes a Manhattan university. In addition to tracking rising cases of COVID on campus\, the school’s administrators face immigration problems\, suicide threats\, and professors losing their minds. But in the midst of all the madness\, it’s the internal bureaucratic battles that threaten the school’s preservation. \nOver the course of two conflict-ridden Zoom meetings\, ADJUST THE PROCEDURE gives audiences a rare peek into the business of higher education at a moment of multiple reckonings. “A couldn’t-be-more-timely play.” — Derek McCracken\, BroadwayWorld “As this play questions whether it is easier to ADJUST THE PROCEDURE or adjust reality\, it forcefully reminds us ‘When someone dies\, there are consequences.’ \nA timely play for troubled times. Well worth watching.” — Laurie Lawson\, Electronic Link Journey “Smartly tailored to its theme and era\, and the direction and delivery of its thought-provoking narrative pack a punch and leave us wondering what really drives our educational system and who benefits the most from it.” — Deb Miller\, DC Metro Theater Arts Written and directed by Jake Shore\, ADJUST THE PROCEDURE stars Ed Altman\, Adam Files\, Meagan Moses\, and Nicholas Miles Newton.

SUMMARY:DOCU-MONDAYS: Talking About Adultery
DESCRIPTION:In open testimonies by husbands\, wives\, and lovers\, this highly stylized introspective film presents different forms of marriage and searches for the meaning of this institution in our post-consumerist society. \nThrough a visually dominant text conversation between the central couple R. and B.\, the viewer gradually begins to identify with the stories of anonymous heroes who balance fulfillment of love and sexuality in relationships\, cope with their frustration\, or describe the rediscovered value of marriage. Metaphors and collages reflect the filmmaker’s perspective\, and ultimately a surprising twist of life connected to the filming. \n“Exploring the real intricate parts of relationships\, this documentary does a great job of revealing the evolution of intimate relationships that happens when couples bend or break the rules society has created.” Irish Film Critic \nhttps://dafilms.com/film/11442-talking-about-adultery\nAvailable for free after registration from 00:00 till 23:59 CET \nABOUT THE DIRECTOR\nBára Jíchová Tyson is a Czech artist and documentary filmmaker who has lived in the United States since 2002\, where she studied filmmaking at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. SUMMARY:DAMES
DESCRIPTION:Blue Rhino is proud to present Dames\, a collective exhibition of Blue Rhino’s featured women artists. Opening on March 10th\, the exhibition lives digitally on our website until March 31st \, creating access from anywhere in the world\, breaking the physical barriers that occurred due to the COVID 19 situation. Artists include Anastasiia Danilenko(Russia)\, Chara Kontopoulou(Cyprus)\, Elif Celebi (Turkey)\, Katarina Dordevic (Serbia)\, Laleh Memar Ardestani (Iran)\, Maliheh Zafarnezhad (Iran)\, Roxana Manouchehri (Iran)\, Solmaz Tohidloo (Iran) and Veronica Botticelli (Italy). \nDames aims to champion women artists in their career and give them a voice by highlighting their importance and contribution to the art world\, as unfortunately they are often still being left out of its canon. All from different backgrounds\, each carefully curated artist offers us their particular perspective of the female gaze through their diverse techniques and mediums. \nBlue Rhino is hosting a live online event with the participating artists on March 10th at 6 pm GMT. The event is open to all publics\, the Blue Rhino team will host a commentary exhibition tour\, conduct a conversation with the artists about their works\, and chair a Q&A with the public and the artists. Everyone who is joining is encouraged to have a beverage with them as we will all virtually cheer with the artists. To participate please email us at info@bluerhino.art.
