SUMMARY:Singing With Nightingales: Homecoming
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the return of the nightingales to UK shores with this special late-night live broadcast. \nHosted by folk singer Sam Lee this audio broadcast\, live on Youtube\, will take you on a journey into the woods of Sussex to hear the unforgettable song of the nightingale. \nWe will then weave in contributions from invited guests for improvised duets and poetic offerings with the nightingales\, bringing the magic of music and nature to you in the comfort of your own home. \nThis live broadcast will be available for free on Youtube. \nEach year\, for a short period mid-April\, a few thousand nightingales fly to southern UK from Africa. They can be heard in just a small number of special locations\, taking up songful residence after dusk. The territorial males serenade loyally each night for no more than six weeks among the blackthorn and forest margins\, giving unbelievable privilege to those who know where to go. \nOn 14th April we will mark this occasion by listening to possibly the first singing nightingale of the season\, with Sam Lee microphone-ready at their reliable Sussex habitat. \nWe will be inviting contributions from the public to be played on this broadcast alongside the nightingale’s song – details for this will follow in the next few weeks.

SUMMARY:Singing With Nightingales: Dawn Chorus
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate International Dawn Chorus Day with this long-form live broadcast of birdsong and spoken word. \nJoin The Nest Collective online from 11pm on 1st May for a spoken-word journey\, hosted by Sam Lee\, through some of the finest poems and writings celebrating the nightingale\, the wonder of birds and the natural world. \nThis long-form broadcast will then drift into pure nightingale song through the night and\, as the birds rise\, will culminate in the dawn chorus itself\, finishing at 6am on Sunday 2nd May. \nThis live broadcast will be available for free on Youtube. \nWe are delighted to announce the contributors for this broadcast include: \nCaitlin Moran • Stewart Lee • Satish Kumar • John Lewis-Stempel • Jackie Morris • Rob Da Bank • Anita Sethi • Melissa Harrison • Mark Avery • Merlin Sheldrake • David Lindo • David Rothenberg • Mya-Rose Craig • Patrick Barkham • Farhana Yamin • Mary Colwell • Genevieve Tudor • Jay Griffiths \nInternational Dawn Chorus Day is the worldwide celebration of nature’s greatest symphony. All across the world people rise early to enjoy the sound of birdsong\, ‘from rattling wrens in Rotherham to crooning cowbirds in the Caribbean’. \nIn this modern age\, with biodiversity in decline and habitats being eroded\, the nightingale has become representative of all that we have to lose. It is a small\, brown\, unremarkable-looking bird\, but it possesses one of nature’s finest singing voices. The bird winters in Africa but spends April to July mating and nesting in Europe and the Middle East. The numbers visiting England have declined so sharply that it is now on the UK’s Red List of species at the greatest conservation risk.

SUMMARY:Terra Nexus
DESCRIPTION:Terra Nexus is an immersive experience featuring 25 artists produced by Proposition Studios. First opening at our former site in Peckham in October 2020\, the exhibition has now been reconstructed\, expanded and developed with 3 new installations and a new navigation around a multi-sensory labyrinthine of interconnected artist worlds. Sitting in the heart of 150 artist studios overlooking the Thames\, Terra Nexus presents interwoven immersive environments which reflect on the human relationship with the biosphere set against the backdrop of an ancient metropolis that is reawakening into a new post lockdown reality. \nSpringing from the foundational idea that we need to shift away from a narrative of human dominion and independence in order to protect the biosphere\, Terra Nexus installations explore the necessity of living soil; the perpetual migration of species; the cascading threat of impending extinctions; ways to reconnect with nature; conflict arising from depleted resources; the future of cities and how humans will live within them. From the perspectives of insects and animals\, through the eyes of scientists\, artificial intelligence\, plant life\, ancient cultures and conflicting contemporary viewpoints; Terra Nexus is a wormhole of ideas. \nWarping sensory experiences\, excavating\, weaving between co-existing timelines and suggesting alternative histories; this is the first of a series of immersive projects by Proposition Studios asking the viewer to raise their own questions about THE HUMAN AS PART OF ECOLOGY and what that means today and for future generations. \nIn preparation for this project\, the exhibiting artists took part in an intensive research residency\, visiting sites where human intervention has dramatically increased biodiversity while providing for human needs. Inspired by these projects of experts working to regenerate the biosphere and address global food problems; installations directly reference cutting edge science\, biodiverse agriculture and environmental activism.

SUMMARY:Nature Walk: Chalk Streaming – Rivers Cray\, Darent and Thames
DESCRIPTION:This spring we invite you to walk the waterways of England\, navigating their gentle wildness alongside Sam Lee and special guest ecological pioneers.\nLeave your gadgets behind and spend a day chalk streaming together. \nLittle-known but quietly magnificent chalk streams are one of the UK’s natural wonders and ecological miracles. Despite all the environmental mistreatment they receive\, they continue to bubble up some of the finest waters in the land\, harbouring communities of life within and humans alongside. Their life-giving properties have shaped our nation\, inspired artists to create and conquerors to colonise. \nAs we walk we will take several moments en route to stop and explore the river together. We will share knowledge\, songs\, histories\, and return to the river the love that she has shown us humans over our millennia spent by her side. \nLittle-known but quietly magnificent chalk streams are one of the UK’s natural wonders and ecological miracles. SUMMARY:Family Campfire Club: Jon Boden
DESCRIPTION:Join other local families for an afternoon around the campfire with music\, singalongs\, and nature activities for your kids.\nThis summer\, The Nest Collective invites you to discover extraordinary music around the campfire. \nFor over five years\, Campfire Club has been the way for people to gather in beautiful green spaces and listen to amazing music from all over the world. We enjoy music in the simple way that people have done for thousands of years\, around the fire with food\, drink\, and each other. \nEach event includes: \n\nPerformances of stunning unamplified music\nSingalongs round the campfire\nNature activities for your kids\nFood and drink (local ales\, snacks)\n\nJon Boden \n“One of the most venerated of the younger Brit Folk generation” – The Guardian \nJon Boden has become the stand out performer of his generation of traditional folk artists\, but one whose repertoire extends far beyond the boundaries of the genre. \nMost recognisably\, he was the lead singer (and one of the principal arrangers) of the multi-award winning Bellowhead\, one of the most exciting live acts of recent years. \nWhat the audience said: \n“This event was phenomenal. I cannot wait until I attend another one… the musicians were something else. I certainly didn’t feel as though I was in Peckham\, but some enchanted woodlands.” \n“The atmosphere was incredible\, I knew I would love the music\, but I loved the atmosphere just as much.” \n“Walking into a wonderland of nature with beautiful music and people made me feel wonderfully elated.”

SUMMARY:Mind The ‘Green Gap’: Houseplant Hideout Opens In East London To Combat Nature Deficit
DESCRIPTION:Thejoyofplants.co.uk today announces the opening of a ‘Houseplant Hideout’ in East London’s urban jungle\, Shoreditch’s BoxPark. Designed to banish autumn blues for the 48% of Brits who say they are dreading winter this year and to help bring nature into homes and home office spaces these cold seasons\, the Houseplant Hideout is ultimately designed to transport consumers to a biophilic wonderland of Zen. \nWith half (52%) confessing that nature is the top thing they’ve missed during the lockdown in recent research commissioned by Thejoyofplants.co.uk\, the houseplant experts have set about bringing a rich\, rejuvenating biophilic dreamworld to the heart of the concrete jungle. By placing over 300 houseplants into a handcrafted 10m installation\, with rotating chairs\, soft lighting and a mindfulness audio meditation crafted by plant spirit expert Holly Worton\, the Houseplant Hideout is set to transport visitors to another world. \nOpen to the public from the 7th of October at 10 am\, ‘Houseplant Hideout’ invites individuals to get lost – Alice in Wonderland style – in a lush green forest bathing immersion where the magical power of houseplants stimulates every sense. Upon stepping inside this tranquil oasis\, visitors will be transported into an interactive biophilic wonderland complete with a six-metre vertical kaleidoscope to be fully engulfed in nature and give them a magical moment for the gram. With terrariums portals to peek through from the outside to a lush moss flooring\, this event is designed to show how easy it is to bring the natural landscape into the interior landscape – just in time for winter. \nThejoyofplants.co.uk has collaborated with award-winning designer and architect DaeWha Kang to create the hideout – a monolithic landmark bringing biophilic principles to life with a unique space for people to retreat\, reflect and recharge – as part of their successful Thanks Plants campaign. With the safe space of our homes overtaken by work and more than ever\, we need quietude\, shelter\, and moments of beauty and tranquillity brought back into our home working spaces to avoid a nature deficit. \nRenowned botanist James Wong has carefully curated the houseplants inside\, selecting varieties for their wellbeing and biophilic benefits\, such as Strelitzia Nicolai’s that help take in CO2 and harmful toxins and release oxygen to plants and terrariums that help boost concentration whilst working from our home offices. \nPlant spirit expert Holly Worton has crafted a special plant meditation visitors can try out during their time in the installation and also listen at home to relax\, or on their lunch break via a link supplied on their visit. Talking to plants has long been proven to help them grow\, but Holly takes this one step further. Creating a meditation that reinforces our connection to plants by assisting consumers to get into a relaxed state helps us reach states of consciousness that allow for communication beyond humans. \nOpen to the public for free from 7th October to 9th October 2021 located at The Green in BOXPARK Shoreditch. Consumers will be allowed to book an individual session lasting 10 or 15 minutes here. The hideout is also designed with passers-by and houseplant enthusiasts in mind who can still enjoy the installation by peeking through the numerous portals and spotting our hand-made terrariums by James Wong\, discover magical houseplant scenes and capture inspiration and photography of this shrine to the wonder of houseplants.

Under 2s get free entry. \n\n\n\nPlease note that this event is for parents or guardians and their children. \n\n\n\nThe Nightingale \n\n\n\nIn this modern age\, with biodiversity in decline and habitats being eroded\, the Nightingale has become representative of all that we have to lose. \n\n\n\nThe Nightingale is a small\, brown\, unremarkable-looking bird\, but it possesses one of nature’s finest singing voices. The bird winters in Africa but spends April to July mating and nesting in Europe and the Middle East. Worldwide\, the population is healthy\, but the numbers visiting England have declined so sharply that it is now on the UK’s Red List of species of the greatest conservation concern.
