SUMMARY:Wartime Christmas at the Royal Hospital Chelsea
DESCRIPTION:Christmas at the Royal Hospital Chelsea has long been a season of joy and tradition – from the stirring of the Christmas pudding to the ceremonial cutting of the festive cake\, and the moving Christmas service in the Hospital’s Chapel. \nBut behind the warmth of these celebrations lies a remarkable story of resilience. As we mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War\, join historian Martin Cawthorne for a poignant talk exploring how the Royal Hospital and its Chelsea Pensioners faced the challenges of wartime – even as bombs fell and rations tightened. \nDrawing from his acclaimed book The Royal Hospital Chelsea at War\, Martin will reflect on how the festive season unfolded during one of the darkest chapters in the Hospital’s history. Discover how Christmas became a symbol of hope\, compassion\, and duty on the Home Front\, even as the Hospital itself stood in the line of fire. \nThis is a moving and insightful event that honours the spirit of those who served – and those who kept the flame of Christmas burning through adversity. \nBook Christmas Entertainment in London

SUMMARY:Sven Helbig Announces ‘REQUIEM A’ UK Premiere in London
DESCRIPTION:On October 4\, 2025\, Central Hall Westminster in London – the historic site of the first United Nations meeting – will host the UK premiere of German composer Sven Helbig’s REQUIEM A. The work\, a meditation on grief\, memory\, and renewal\, will feature the London Contemporary Orchestra\, four European choirs (Dresdner Kreuzchor\, Trinity Boys Choir\, Poznań Boys’ Choir\, and La Maîtrise de Garçons de Colmar) under Kreuzkantor Martin Lehmann\, and renowned bass René Pape\, with live visuals by Icelandic artist Máni M. Sigfusson. Helbig describes the piece as “a destroyed and partially rebuilt city\,” blending classical and contemporary elements to create a shared\, almost liturgical space for performers and audience alike. Following premieres in Dresden and Vienna earlier in 2025\, REQUIEM A continues Helbig’s exploration of the intersection between classical tradition and modern sound\, offering reflections on resilience and new beginnings inspired in part by his daughter. With nine sections moving from collective memory to personal reflection\, the work unites international artists in a powerful statement on peace and community. Tickets for the London premiere are available now\, offering audiences a rare chance to experience one of Europe’s most innovative contemporary composers at the height of his creative powers. The album\, REQUIEM A\, was released on Deutsche Grammophon on May 8\, 2025\, and continues to resonate through live performances as a testament to memory\, mourning\, and the enduring quest for peace.

SUMMARY:Wasted Youth MOTH Club
DESCRIPTION:Wasted Youth play music that is “energetic\, psychedelic\, prone to semi-improvised and chaotic detours…combined with a selection of melodic and memorable tunes” (Billboard\, 2024). “The original Wasted Youth\, were probably one of the best bands to come out of post punk East London” (Louder Than War\, 2022). \nThey were hugely popular as the Eighties dawned with punks looking for something more sexy and sophisticated and looked set to become much more than the cult band they became. They pre-dated Post Punk and Goth and are still remembered as quietly-influential and a superb live band by fans. Their 1981 album ‘Wild and Wandering’ is widely considered to be an overlooked classic which has sold in excess of 25\,000 copies in its lifetime. \nWasted Youth return to The Moth Club having played a sell-out show there in June 2024. They will be promoting their new album ‘Neo Noir”.\nSpecially invited support act for the evening is Jamie Perrett\, a good friend and amazing singer/musician/performer\, who you really need to see! The DJ for the night is the wonderful Jeffrey Munday\, who will be playing a selection of toe-tapping favourites and some obscure gems. \nThis is Wasted Youth’s only London appearance this year so make sure you get your fix at The Moth Club on Thursday\, July 24. This promises to be a night to remember\, so don’t miss it!

SUMMARY:JITR Feb: Fazer\, Yama Warashi + more TBA
DESCRIPTION:Jazz in the Round + Serious presents Munich-based quintet Fazer who perform their first ever UK show with their new studio album\, Yamaha. After 2022’s Plex\, Fazer contemplates the defiance and embrace of expectations\, both in the industry and in art at large\, on a record that melds indie\, jazz and psychedelic rock with humour and depth.\n\n\nFAZER @fazertheband \n\nEmbracing a DIY approach\, Fazer recorded and mixed the record with engineer and friend Noël Riedel at bassist Martin Brugger’s studio in central Munich. Without the pressure of a costly daily rate\, the band took plenty of time figuring out the setup and experimenting with sound. Brugger gives an example: “We would spend an afternoon looking for the perfect reverb for the trumpet and ended up using the spooky-sounding staircase next door as an echo chamber.” While all tracks were still recorded live with everyone in the room\, there are noticeably more overdubs on ‘Yamaha’ compared to previous records. Acoustic guitars\, trombone\, Wurlitzer\, and assorted percussion add depth and colour to Fazer’s core setup\, which MOJO Magazine described as a “tightly coiled\, well-oiled machine.”\n\n\nYAMA WARASHI (solo) @yama_warashi \nFounded in Bristol circa 2015 and centred on a close-knit coterie of gifted collaborators led by Shigihara\, the output of Yama Warashi has since flourished across one EP and three albums\, from the graceful spiritual jazz of 2016’s ‘MOON ZERO’ to the evocative\, psychedelic dreamworlds of her debut album ‘Moon Egg’ – released in the same year – to the existential\, Bon Odori-inspired music of 2018’s ‘Boiled Moon’. Relocating to London\, after being drawn to the city by its open-minded music scene – especially the activity centred around Cafe OTO and the Total Refreshment Centre – Shigihara released ‘Crispy Moon’ in 2022\, unfurling even grander\, more lavish depths within her multifaceted soundworld.
