SUMMARY:Carols & Classics: A Family-Friendly Christmas Concert
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Sunday\, 7th December\, 2.30-4 pm at St Gabriel’s Church\, Pimlico\, for our first-ever Christmas concert\, specially designed for families (children 6+)\, with music\, storytelling\, and a chance to get close to the orchestra. \nExpect festive favourites including Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite and Prokofiev’s Troika (Sleigh Ride) and a sing-along of classic Christmas carols with the orchestra.  \nIn the interval\, enjoy a mulled wine and “meet the orchestra” – our players will be around the venue\, ready to showcase their instruments to any curious little ones. \nAt our concerts\, it’s not just about listening\, it’s about getting closer to the music. Our conductor\, Alexander Conway\, chats to the audience throughout\, sharing the stories behind the music\, what to listen out for\, and even demonstrating moments live with the orchestra.  \nWe believe that classical music is for everyone. SUMMARY:Rust رَست concert
DESCRIPTION:Beyond 1932 Residency:  Rust رَست \nRust will perform their unreleased album ‘Masar’\, a musical interpretation of poetry by the talented Lebanese poet Jana Salloum. Jana’s poetry explores the path of the Arab woman\, delves into her world\, raises existential questions\, and addresses the battle for identity. Rust interpreted the poem with rich melodies\, intriguing rhythms\, and a harmonious blend of electronic and traditional elements. The album invites the listener to experience the diverse\, powerful emotions it evokes and the meaning behind the advocacy it leads. Petra’s vocals captivate the senses\, and the warm tones of Hany’s Oud add depth and authenticity to each track. The second part of the performance\, “Electric Wasla”\, is 30 30-minute set customized for this event. This segment is based on the traditional Arabic musical form ‘Wasla’\, consisting of several related classical compositions and improvisations based on the same Maqam. \nRim Irscheid organises this event and is part of six residencies with the ERC/UKRI-funded project Beyond 1932: Rethinking Musical Modernity in the Middle East and North Africa (1932 MUSCON). The EPSRC funds the project via the UKRI/EC HE Guarantee ERC scheme (funder Award Reference: EP/X022749/1) and is based at the Music Department of King’s College London. \nAbout Rust رَست: \nRust is a Prague-based duo whose music blends the Arabic heritage of melody and poetry with a modern electronic sound. Combining elements of Arabic music with contemporary production and powerful vocals\, Rust draws influence from the older generation of musical rebels\, aiming to bridge the gap between legacy and modernity.\nThe project was cofounded in Beirut in 2020 by: \nPetra Hawi – a Lebanese musician and vocalist\nHany Manja is a Syrian musician\, Oud player\, and electronic music producer. \n  \nHire Middle Eastern and Arabic Musicians for Events in the UK.

SUMMARY:London Mozart Players: Changing Seasons
DESCRIPTION:When Vivaldi wrote his Four Seasons in 1723\, the world was different. As nature continues to inspire art\, Vivaldi’s piece remains popular and still has a place in today’s society. But how do we respond when the world around us is changing? \nChanging Seasons is a new multi-genre spectacular from Croydon’s Resident Orchestra\, LMP\, created to reflect on the climate emergency and its impact on our future. This exciting production mixes Vivaldi’s classic with new commissions from four talented local arts groups. Working with professional composers Fiona Brice and Sarah Freestone\, four community groups – Club Soda\, Croydon Music & Arts\, Queer Croydon x Stanley Arts and Subrang Arts – will perform their unique pieces which the seasonal themes have inspired in Vivaldi’s music. These new works respond to our changing world\, creating a fusion of genres and artforms culminating in a spectacular performance at Fairfield Halls. \nComplete with new poetry\, dance performances and engaging video content to introduce each artist; Changing Seasons is an accessible and proudly Croydon-made performance suitable for audiences of all ages. \nAs part of this event\, LMP is hosting a FREE afternoon showcase in the public open spaces of Fairfield Halls\, featuring local talent from over 30 music and dance groups.
