SUMMARY:L.A. Salami meets Stage Door Guy
DESCRIPTION:L.A. SALAMI: \nAs much a philosopher as a popsmith\, articulate and versatile. One of the premier lyricists of his generation\, he remains curious\, still distinguishing the illusory from the eternal\, the true from the beguiling; keeping the faith\, in his own cynical yet impassioned way. \nL.A. Salami (Lookman Adekunle Salami) is a singer/songwriter from London\, known for crafting magnetic blues-rock songs with a postmodern twist. His love for music began when he first heard Bob Dylan on the radio\, subsequently leading him to explore more blues and folk music and inspiring him to write his own songs; unfortunately\, however\, he could not afford his own instrument and wasn’t introduced to one until he was given a guitar for his 21st birthday. After three months of soul-searching\, tapping into different creative avenues\, and sleeping rough\, Salami eventually had his first few songs written and set out to land some gigs. Success soon came knocking after relentless gigging\, starting with a tour support slot for Lianne La Havas in 2012. The rest is history. \nSTAGE DOOR GUY: \nA Mancunian walks into a bar in New Orleans. He staggers past a guy downing his 5th neat whiskey. They form a band. Stage Door Guy is a post-punk blues duo mash up of Professor Longhair\, The Dead Kennedys and Dr John Cooper Clarke. With three acclaimed albums under their belt\, they were described by Louder Than War’s John Robb’s as: “… a quirky off-kilter slice of snarky swing with a rocking core” \nTheir latest album is the critically acclaimed ‘Stage Door Guy Beach Party’

SUMMARY:New Fossils
DESCRIPTION:A fresh force on Budapest’s dynamic jazz scene – expect a special live show moving through modern jazz\, deep grooves and Eastern European mysticism. \n\nJoin us at Ninety One Living Room for a night of jazz\, electronic sounds\, and deep rhythms with New Fossils! \nNew Fossils is a Budapest-based quintet navigating the space between modern jazz\, deep grooves\, and Eastern European mysticism. Dániel Varga (saxophone)\, Damján Ocsovay (keys)\, István Tóth (guitar)\, Dániel Ferenc Szabó (drums)\, and Marcell Gyányi (bass) blend tight interplay with a love for the unexpected. \nTheir new album\, Ecosphere\, moves beyond their acoustic jazz roots into richer\, more layered territory. Recorded in the Mátra mountains\, the album grew from a collective writing process\, where each musician’s voice shaped the whole. Emma Nagy (vocals) and Áron Horváth (cimbalom) add even more texture\, bringing a sense of lyricism and an unmistakable regional feel. Releasing music through their own label\, Morotva Records\, New Fossils keeps things hands-on. They’ve shared stages with Alfa Mist\, worked with ECM artist Mathias Eick\, and built a reputation for electrifying live shows. With Ecosphere\, they dive deeper into contrast — structured yet free\, grounded yet exploratory—proving that jazz\, much like nature\, thrives on change.

SUMMARY:Wasted Youth MOTH Club
DESCRIPTION:Wasted Youth play music that is “energetic\, psychedelic\, prone to semi-improvised and chaotic detours…combined with a selection of melodic and memorable tunes” (Billboard\, 2024). “The original Wasted Youth\, were probably one of the best bands to come out of post punk East London” (Louder Than War\, 2022). \nThey were hugely popular as the Eighties dawned with punks looking for something more sexy and sophisticated and looked set to become much more than the cult band they became. They pre-dated Post Punk and Goth and are still remembered as quietly-influential and a superb live band by fans. Their 1981 album ‘Wild and Wandering’ is widely considered to be an overlooked classic which has sold in excess of 25\,000 copies in its lifetime. \nWasted Youth return to The Moth Club having played a sell-out show there in June 2024. They will be promoting their new album ‘Neo Noir”.\nSpecially invited support act for the evening is Jamie Perrett\, a good friend and amazing singer/musician/performer\, who you really need to see! The DJ for the night is the wonderful Jeffrey Munday\, who will be playing a selection of toe-tapping favourites and some obscure gems. \nThis is Wasted Youth’s only London appearance this year so make sure you get your fix at The Moth Club on Thursday\, July 24. This promises to be a night to remember\, so don’t miss it!

SUMMARY:URANIUM CLUB + HYGIENE
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents… \nURANIUM CLUB\nHYGIENE\nThursday 14 November\nNumber 90 Live\, Main Yard\, Wallis Road\, London\, E9 5LN\n7.30pm | £13 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/yd631fde96ea \nURANIUM CLUB released their fourth album\, ‘Infants Under the Bulb’\, back in March this year through Static Shock Records and Anti Fade. The Minneapolis band recorded the album over the course of 2023 by long time collaborator Grant Richardson and is just as rampant and agitated as ever. Uranium Club once again win their dear listeners over with eccentrically wild guitar parts\, revolving voices\, elastic-tight drums and the addition of their very own Saints-styled horn section. \nLyrically\, ‘Infants Under the Bulb’ opens up the history books of unsolved mysteries – unidentified\, unsolved\, unanswered subjects of suspicious acts or individuals across the last century. Who\, what\, when and where… but mostly\, why? Ignorant humanity of earth orbits the sun once again. The Somerton Man\, Bergmann\, Bauby\, Denton\, phone phreakers\, and just what is lurking behind the cosmic organ of The Wall? As always\, the artwork was handled in-house by the Club and ambitious as ever. The spectacular cover shot captures a carefully coordinated event orchestrated by the Club to photograph a crowd of the local volunteers wearing ponchos standing together in an open field to make the shape of a giant spiral. \nhttps://staticshockrecords.bandcamp.com/album/infants-under-the-bulb \nHYGIENE returned last year with their most urgent and essential recordings and not many bands can say that after 15 years. ’15 Minute City’ EP (Static Shock) is an absolute bundle of DIY greatness…it has the chaos and chorus of one the classic 70’s / early 80’s Swell Maps 7”s. ‘L.T.N’ is a robotic and stiff post punk song that doesn’t outlast it’s welcome as it lasts just over a minute. Last track ‘Petrol’ is a childlike punk gem that gets stuck in your head after one play. \nhttps://staticshockrecords.bandcamp.com/album/15-minute-city

SUMMARY:SIMON SPILLETT BIG BAND 'DEAR TUBBY H' ALBUM LAUNCH
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nPRESS INFORMATION FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE \nNEW UK JAZZ LABEL CELEBRATES \nTUBBY HAYES WITH DEBUT RELEASE \nLAUNCH GIG\, 229 LONDON W1 \nMonday December 11th \n  \nIn all its vibrant and diverse history\, British jazz has produced a number of musicians who can truly be considered iconic\, none more so than the virtuoso saxophonist\, composer\, and arranger Tubby Hayes. Hayes was arguably the first and one of very few British jazz stars to crack America. He was invited to perform and record there as a star soloist in his own right\, an honour accorded to very few British jazz instrumentalists.. \nNow\, fifty years after Hayes’s untimely death aged just 38\, a new recording has arrived which presents twelve of his big band compositions and arrangements recorded for commercial release for the very first time. \nThe Tubby Hayes Big Band first appeared in the early 1960s and performed sporadically right up until Hayes’s passing in 1973. During that time the band produced just two albums\, ‘Tubbs Tours’ and ‘100% Proof’. A consequence of this very small output is that the vast majority of Tubby’s big band repertoire was never commercially recorded. \nUntil now. \nSimon Spillett\, himself a virtuoso tenor saxophonist in the Hayes tradition\, has performed the seemingly impossible task of tracking down the lost big band music of Tubby Hayes. Fellow musicians and relatives of Hayes’s long passed contemporaries were instrumental in facilitating this search. The music has been recovered\, restored and recorded by a team of A-list British jazz stars and the album ‘Dear Tubby H’ is released in September on Mister PC Records. \nOnly Simon Spillett has the instrumental ability and specialist knowledge to make such an ambitious project as this a reality\, and it is a fitting follow up to Spillett’s definitive\, critically acclaimed biography of Hayes\, ‘The Long Shadow of the Little Giant’. \nSimon’s friend\, colleague\, and drummer Pete Cater has assumed the role of producer. Cater was so impressed with the audience response to one of the Spillett big band’s early gigs at London’s 100 Club that he decided at that moment to put his money where his mouth is\, so that this music could be recorded to the highest possible standard\, in terms of both musicianship and production\, with no compromises on standards of performance\, audio quality\, and all-round musical integrity. \nPete Cater is no stranger to big band music\, having first fronted his own band in 1983 and produced several albums as a leader. Setting up his own label is a new venture however. Several further releases are in the can or scheduled for recording in the coming months. \nMister PC Records has arrived in a big way with a hugely impressive debut release with a broad appeal way beyond the specialist jazz niche. \n  \nCONTACT DETAILS FOR INTERVIEW REQUESTS \n  \nSIMON SPILLETT (featured lead artist) 07703 556147 simonspill@aol.com \nPETE CATER (label owner/producer) 07831 419958 petecaterdrums@gmail.com

SUMMARY:From Pub to Pulpit - Concert
DESCRIPTION:A hugely successful concert tour that has seen thousands of people across the country singing together to turn folk songs into hymns will have a final performance in Camden Town on 14th October as a fundraiser for St Michael’s Church. \n\n\n\nThe critically acclaimed From Pub to Pulpit tour features Camden folk group Broomdasher and The Pagoda Project and has wowed full houses at more than twenty Cathedrals and Festivals\, celebrating Ralph Vaughan Williams’ 150th birthday. St Michael’s in Camden Town will be the only Central London venue of the year-long tour. \n\n\n\nIn the concert\, the audience joined the organ\, choir and two groups in a unique and rousing tribute to Vaughan Williams\, a renowned folk song collector. He borrowed the tunes from some of the working people’s favourite folk songs to use for some of the best hymns in the 1906 English hymn he edited.
