SUMMARY:Hit The Ground Single Launch
DESCRIPTION:This is a launch party for his unreleased single ‘Hit The Ground’ which is to be released on the 15th March\, with an audio premiere from Atwood Magazine. As well as this support Tadhg has also been featured in publications such as GigSlutz\, Louder Than War\, It’s All Indie\, Fortitude. Along with online publications\, Tadhg has had some great support with BBC Introducing London as well as BBC Introducing Jersey. \nBorn and bred Jersey boy Tadhg Daly\, returns with Indie-ballad track ‘Hits The Ground’ that will be released on all major streaming platforms. Having over 75k Spotify streams on Daly’s latest track ‘Fires’\, you can expect nothing less than a heart-warming alternative styled saga. Tadhg exclaims that ‘Hit the Ground’ “is a really important song to me. It sort of represents what I consider to be my “re-birth” as a person. That may sound terribly cheesy\, but I can’t think of another way to put it.” \nThe singer then continues to quote\, that the track is about “letting go of the fear that stops us from pursuing what we love and prevents us from being the version of ourselves we dream of being.” Which is represented by the ‘guiding’ voice in the track that represents his caring family\, especially his mother that he describes her as a ‘spiritual guru’\, a message that Tadhg reflects within the song.

SUMMARY:Katy J Pearson
DESCRIPTION:A hazy dusk falls on a crossroads somewhere between Gloucestershire and Bristol. A wooden signpost points in two directions: good ol’ fashioned country heartache to the left; effortless pop hooks to the right – and underneath\, cross-legged on still-warm car bonnet\, sits Katy J Pearson\, strumming an acoustic guitar as she spins a tale of blossoming dancefloor romance. \nCombining an incredibly unique voice with a penchant for timeless melody\, the Heavenly Recordings-signed Pearson – recently seen on tour with Cass Mccombs and Pinegrove – pens tracks that only could have come from her years growing up in the rolling hills of the West Country. \nHaving first explored songwriting as one half of dream-pop duo Ardyn\, her new solo project casts an intimate light upon her distinctive lyricism / vocal combo\, all the while refining her portrayal of the wondrous world around her. Her songs convey a glorious nostalgia\, refreshingly at odds with the rush and fury of modern life.

SUMMARY:Nightshift + The Pheromoans - Live Indie & Punk Concert
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents NIGHTSHIFT + THE PHEROMOANS – Live Indie & Punk Concert \nNIGHTSHIFT formed in 2019 in the ecosystem of Glasgow’s current indie scene. The city’s fertile & creative group of musicians have been committed to pushing the boundaries of and blurring the lines between DIY\, punk\, experimentalism and indie pop for decades now. So nightshift fit right in\, featuring members from current indie stalwarts Spinning Coin\, 2 Ply and Robert Sotelo. The band was formed by David Campbell (guitar)\, Andrew Doig (bass)\, Eothen Stearn (keyboards/vocals) & Chris White (drums) as a “No Wave/No New York/early Sonic Youth/This Heat-esque” group. Still\, their sound quickly evolved once guitarist/vocalist/clarinettist Georgia Harris joined (as the band was writing ‘Zöe’). Nightshift self-released a full-length cassette on CUSP Recordings in early 2020\, laying the foundation of their sound; hypnotic\, melodic\, understated indie post-punk with hooks that stick around long after you’ve heard them. \nUnlike the band’s previous album\, the songs on ‘Zöe’ weren’t conceived live in the band’s practice space but instead pieced together and recorded remotely during quarantine lockdown. The isolation allowed openness and creativity to flow\, and many of the songs took on radically different forms from when they were initially envisioned. Vocalist & primary lyricist Eothen Stearn says\, “The process of writing these songs separately during lockdown was a kind of exquisite corpse – I liked this gesture of reaching out to one another and responding. Building up the next layer and passing it on.” Stearn says “poetic restraints” to writing & Eno & Schmidt’s Oblique Strategies concepts were on their mind when composing the words to the songs\, and highlights the influence of author Rosi Bradiotti’s book ‘The Posthuman’. ‘Zöe’ kicks off with ‘Piece Together’\, a mesmeric song anchored by the band’s chanted vocals and serpentine guitar licks. ‘Spraypaint the Bridge’ showcases Harris’ clarinet in an unexpected & delightful melodic shift during the song’s anti-chorus. Elsewhere tunes like the swooning ‘Infinity Winner’ and ‘Outta Space’s minimalist\, slinky rhythm swirl in a late-night vibe\, while ‘Make Kin’ ruminates on “Looking to kinship as a way of engaging with entangled environmental and reproductive issues… how a band is a bond” and lurches forward with kinetic guitar strangling & staccato rhythmic percussion from White & Doig. ‘Power Cut’ is the album’s centrepiece\, luring the listener into involuntary movement with its waves of harmonies\, synth drones and metronomic pulse until they all come crashing down in the song’s dissonant midsection.

The band acknowledges the whiffs of nostalgia prevalent in ‘Zöe’s songs\, and the nature of writing & recording the album is soaked in the self-work\, reflection & reevaluations involved not only personally but creatively in each member’s life. Consequently\, ‘Zöe’ has become a collection of sketches of hope\, growth\, awareness of the world’s power & the power of self and possibility.\nhttps://nightshiftgroup.bandcamp.com/ \nTHE PHEROMOANS are a rock band from the South East of England who deals in a piece of deadpan DIY music. Married to the mundane yet surreal reportage of our lives\, their music manages to address the truly restless boredom and absurdity of everyday life. The group have released albums on Alter\, Upset The Rhythm and Savoury Days. They would like this review from 2014 by Peter Rea to best sum up their sound. “Akin to The Fall\, someone who clearly wants to be Mark E. Smith fronts a band of great-sounding musicians. Using his microphone stand to remain upright\, the lead singer slurs words with little coherence\, occasionally managing to fit in nicely with his exceptional band members – possibly by accident. He mentions Jerry McGuire\, swears a lot loudly\, and then keeps saying “David Lynch”. It’s an amusing spectacle\, but I’d like to hear someone more sober and poetic. The second to last tune is actually pretty great\, which goes some way to make up for some cringeworthy and laughable moments.”\nhttp://thepheromoans.blogspot.com/ \n  \nNIGHTSHIFT\nTHE PHEROMOANS\nFriday 29 October\nNew River Studios\, 199 Eade Rd\, Harringay\, London\, N4 1DN\n7.30pm | £7 | https://link.dice.fm/ZGB7YNg89gb

SUMMARY:BERTIE MARSHALL - ‘Exhibit’ album launch
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents \nBERTIE MARSHALL – ‘Exhibit’ album launch\nLUVIA\nSaturday\, October 30th\nCafe OTO\, 18-22 Ashwin St\, London\, E8 3DL\n7.30pm | £10 | https://link.dice.fm/xRG9evauYgb \nBERTIE MARSHALL is a writer/ performer. He is also an acclaimed memoirist\, most well known for his book ‘Berlin Bromley’ (2006) about his transformation from Bertie\, an anxious\, androgynous\, depressed teenager\, into Berlin\, a teenager who would reject suburban values and become a founding member of punk’s ‘Bromley Contingent. Alongside Siouxsie Sioux\, Steven Severin and Billy Idol\, He is currently working on ‘Looking: Backwards To Go Forwards’\, picking up from ‘Berlin Bromley’ left off. \nHis other books include the debut novel ‘Psychoboys’ (1997)\, ‘Nowhere Slow’ (2014)\, ‘From Sleepwalking to Sleepwalking’ (2016)\, ‘Wild – re write’ (2017)\, ‘The Peeler’ (2018) and ‘Pete’s Underpants’ (2019). In 2015 the British Library purchased his writing archive.\nFrom 1980-83\, Bertie was the frontman for post-punk boundary-pushers Behaviour Red – they released one single (favourably played by John Peel)\, did a mini-tour and broke up. At various times Behaviour Red featured Noel Blanden of Normil Hawaiians and fine artist Nicola Tyson. Their sound was characterised by looseness and freedom\, boasting tribal drumming\, streams of vocals\, dazed guitars and feedback. Bertie continued sketching out atmospheric compositions afterwards\, too\, walking a tightrope between bewildered pop and gothic folk. Bertie’s commanding voice; heartfelt\, passionate and masterfully leading you through the story. \nBertie became interested in spoken word and performance poetry in the 90s\, which led him to write and perform in his plays and devised theatre pieces. He did regular readings and performances in NYC and began writing books inspired by the visceral talents of Acker & Burroughs. Having lived in Berlin\, San Francisco\, and Brittany\, Bertie now lives in London.\nOctober 29th sees Upset The Rhythm release ‘Exhibit’ by Bertie Marshall\, collecting for the first time his songs and spoken word tracks from this fertile period of the 80s-90s. This show will be its timely album launch featuring Bertie reunited with many original musical collaborators.\n \nLUVIA\, aka Maddie Vincent\, makes ethereal\, melancholic pop. Luvia’s haunting vocals and honest\, passionate storytelling are based upon a dissociative state. Inspired by cinematography and film\, her music has been described as an escape\, finding a muse in bold characters and dreamscape visuals.

SUMMARY:BUFFET LUNCH + ME LOST ME + SHAKE CHAIN - Live Concert in London at Cafe Oto
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents… \nBUFFET LUNCH\nME LOST ME\nSHAKE CHAIN\nSaturday 6 November\nCafe OTO\, 18-22 Ashwin St\, London\, E8 3DL\n7.30pm | £7 | https://link.dice.fm/v9oNFWFE7hb \nBUFFET LUNCH is a Scottish group whose mission is to craft satisfyingly imperfect pop songs filled with imagery and humour. The group’s elementary parts are Perry O’Bray (Vocals/Keys/Guitar)\, Neil Robinson (Bass)\, John Muir (Lead Guitar) & Luke Moran (Drums)\, united by a shared love of music on the ABBA-to-Beefheart axis. This four ricochet between Glasgow and Edinburgh create music that bristles with a DIY spirit and upbeat wonkiness. Their tracks are active excursions\, meandering into clatter some terrain as often as hiking up into the breezy\, melodious foothills. The desire to lead the listener along a curious tale helps tie things together\, showcasing a lyrical playfulness that pins down their sound puzzle. Following their excellent ‘The Power of Rocks’ album (Upset The Rhythm)\, the band returns this November with a vigorous new 7″ EP featuring the tracks’ Mild Weather’ and ‘Cheeks’.\nhttps://buffetlunchband.tumblr.com/ \nME LOST ME is the electronic music project of Newcastle based musician Jayne Dent. Described by BBC Radio 6’s Tom Robinson as a “brilliant peculiar noise”\, Me Lost Me delights in experimenting with genre\, taking influence from folk\, electronica\, art pop\, ambient and noise music to create a beguiling mix of soaring vocals\, synth\, field recordings and hypnotic rhythms. Her live shows are atmospheric\, dark and playful\, with a repertoire that explores storytelling through original songs\, improvisations and reworkings of traditional ballads. She recently released her second album\, ‘The Good Noise’\, out November 2020\, which was described as ‘stunning’ and ‘remarkable’ by NARC Magazine\, demonstrates a maturing of her sound and a deepening of her exploration of site and experiments with the genre.\nhttps://www.melostme.com/ \nSHAKE CHAIN is a 4-piece experimental group formed of Artists Kate Mahony (Vocals)\, Jenna Finch (Drums)\, Robert Eyres (Guitar/Synth) and Chris Hopkins (Bass Synth) hailing from Goldsmiths College\, Nottingham Trent and Wimbledon\, University of the Arts. Formed through a love of thought-provoking performance art and a yearning for disruption\, they recorded their debut EP ‘Neil Yonge and Bob Dylan Live at Hyde Park’ in 2019 with sound artist David Carugo at Oxford Brookes University released by Permanent Slump. Shake Chain provide a fusion of post-punk experimental sampled noise grooves and chaotic lamenting on the current state of things.\nhttps://katemahony.com/Shake-Chain

SUMMARY:Old Time Relijun + Order Of The Toad - Live Concert in London
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents \nOLD TIME RELIJUN\nORDER OF THE TOAD \nOLD TIME RELIJUN are the rarest breed of band. Insatiable\, living raw\, always on the margins and consistent as hell. You know what to expect and yet never have any clue what’s going to come next. Old Time Relijun give sweaty\, compulsively danceable performances that never fail to inflame their audience. Their loose swagger belies years of practice\, meticulous arrangements and gut-level understanding of how music hits you. Old Time Relijun was born on January 1st\, 1995\, in a dark and mouldy basement in Olympia\, Washington. The band stole some popcorn bags\, talked a friend out of his inheritance and self-released “Songbook Vol. I” in 1997. They then began their long association with Calvin Johnson’s K Records. Between 1999 and 2007\, Old Time Relijun toured like monsters\, averaging 150 shows a year in the U.S. and Europe\, releasing ‘Uterus and Fire’\, ‘La Sirena De Pecera’\, ‘Witchcraft Rebellion’\, ‘Lost Light’\, ‘2012’ and ‘Catharsis in Crisis’. The last three albums are known collectively as “The Lost Light Trilogy\,” a conceptual triptych integrating poetry\, painting\, and myth through multiple lyrical and musical threads. The band toured through 2008 and then quietly parted ways.  2021 reunites Old Time Relijun with a newfound level of passionate indignation and a deeper musical vocabulary. The classic lineup featuring bandleader Arrington de Dionyso and Aaron Hartman (upright bass)\, joined by drummer Amanda Spring is primed to return to Europe. Old Time Relijun continue to make music for the revolution from restless energy that has never settled down.\nhttps://oldtimerelijun.bandcamp.com/ \n \nORDER OF THE TOAD is a trio from Glasgow. Melodically\, Order of the Toad has something of a medieval fixation\, filtered through late 60s influences which end up sounding something like Jefferson Airplane – not least in vocalist Gemma “The Wharves” Fleet’s powerful lung-force – mixed with British psyche heat. Think Kaleidoscope or even Syd Barrett drug-damaged whimsy. There’s no other band doing this in the U.K. that we know of\, a musically rich tapestry woven from strands outside current trends. Music is available now on Gringo and Reckless Yes!\nhttps://orderofthetoad.bandcamp.com/ \nThursday\, November 11th\nNew River Studios\, 199 Eade Rd\, Harringay\, London\, N4 1DN\n7.30pm | £8.50 | https://link.dice.fm/GNBlGK80Kgb \n

SUMMARY:SHANNON LAY + NAIMA BOCK
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents… \nSHANNON LAY\nNAIMA BOCK\nMonday 15 November\nSt Pancras Old Church\, Pancras Road\, King’s Cross\, NW1 1UL\n7.30pm | £12.50 | Tickets:  https://link.dice.fm/LWiCXICpNib   \nSHANNON LAY is a L.A. singer-songwriter whose work is of a plainspoken mysticism that goes to the small\, bright truth of things\, showcasing her unusual songwriting and quietly commanding voice. Shannon has been dominating the local scene in Los Angeles over the past few years\, leaving everyone who witnesses completely breathless. \nShannon’s new album\, ‘Geist’\, is tender intensity\, placeless and ethereal. It exists in the chasms of the present – a world populated by shadow selves\, spiritual awakenings\, déjà vu\, and past lives. “Something sleeps inside us\,” Lay insists on the opening track\, and that’s the guiding philosophy throughout. A winding\, golden\, delicate thread of intuition that explores the unknown\, the possibility. \nLay tracked vocals and guitar at Jarvis Tavinere of Woods’s studio\, then sent the songs out to multi-instrumentalists Ben Boye (Bonnie Prince Billy\, Ty Segall) in Los Angeles and Devin Hoff (Sharon Van Etten\, Cibo Matto) in New York; trusting their musical instincts and intuition. She then sent those recordings to Sofia Arreguin (Wand) and Aaron Otheim (Heatwarmer\, Mega Bog) for additional keys\, while Ty Segall contributed a guitar solo on “Shores.” \nAs a whole\, ‘Geist’ is both esoteric and accessible. There’s the concise\, pared-back cover of Syd Barrett’s tilt-a-whirl-esque ‘Late Night’\, while ‘Rare to Wake’\, inspired by Dune\, is existential and meditative\, a circular guitar riff looping at the core of it.  ‘Awaken and Allow’\, is ancient-feeling and mainly a cappella\, its melody channels her deep Irish roots\, a moment of reflection\, before a drop happens – its intensity mirroring the anticipation and anxiety that come with taking the first step to accepting change. ‘Geist’ is released on October 8th through Sub Pop.
https://shannonlay.bandcamp.com/ \n

NAIMA BOCK co-founded Goat Girl with friends at age 15\, and after releasing their debut album on Rough Trade Records she left the band to explore other musical avenues. Her music now combines folk influenced songwriting with jazzy instrumentation\, partially inspired by Naima’s childhood growing up in Brazil.

SUMMARY:HEN OGLEDD - Concert
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents \nHEN OGLEDD\nTuesday 7 December\nCorsica Studios\, 4 & 5 Elephant Rd\, London\, SE17 1LB\n7.30pm | £14 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/ubtrl5YlLjb \nA band project comprising Richard Dawson\, Rhodri Davies\, Dawn Bothwell and Sally Pilkington\, Hen Ogledd’s meaning comes from the Welsh name for The Old North. Following on from the quartet’s previous album Mogic\, with its digital overtones and themes of artificial intelligence\, Hen Ogledd’s second album Free Humans takes a deliberately organic and natural approach. Inspired by ABBA as the work of 12th century mystic-composer-naturalist-visionary Hildegard von Bingen\, touched equally by the spirits of radical philosophical plumber Mary Midgley and PC Music star Hannah Diamond\, as quiet as the paintings of Agnes Martin yet bombastic like a Werner Herzog documentary… it’s an album of seamless\, glorious contradictions. \n \n  \nTackling themes of love\, friendship\, Gaia theory\, sewers\, the nature of time\, human stench\, and the thrills of wild swimming\, it’s remarkable that\, given the intense collision of influences and wide-ranging ideas at play\, Free Humans somehow coheres into a marvellous whole. Hen Ogledd manages to hold both the tragedy of the wrongs happening in the world and also a sense of hope and liberation in their hands at the same time. \nhttps://www.henogledd.com/

SUMMARY:ERIC CHENAUX + ASHLEY PAUL & YONI SILVER
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents \nERIC CHENAUX\nASHLEY PAUL & YONI SILVER\nFriday 4th March\nCafe OTO\, 18-22 Ashwin St\, London\, E8 3DL\n7.30pm | £12 | https://link.dice.fm/V5e79467840a \nERIC CHENAUX lives in Paris but was a fixture of DIY and experimental music in Toronto throughout the 1990s and 2000s\, progressing from local postpunk legends Phleg Camp and Lifelikeweeds towards a highly distinctive technical and gestural mastery of the amplified acoustic guitar. Eric Chenaux operates among various musical ‘traditions’ but perhaps most broadly\, his records grapple with the relationship between improvisation and structure in particular\, unique\, distinctive ways – and entirely without irony or cynicism\, through love. Because fundamentally\, Chenaux writes love songs\, which he sings in a voice honeyed and precise\, while his guitar gently bends\, frazzles\, chortles\, diverges and decomposes. This juxtaposition of his mellow\, dexterous crooning and his highly experimental (and equally dexterous) guitar explorations explodes even unconventional notions of singing and accompaniment\, of the tonal and timbral interplay between guitar and voice. \nConstellation has been home to Eric’s “solo” records since 2006 – a brilliant discography of adventurous\, sumptuous\, mostly languorous deconstructed folk\, jazz and pop-influenced balladry rooted in the juxtaposition of Chenaux’s fried guitar playing and his gorgeously clear and lyrical singing voice. Eric’s new album comes out this February and is his most immaculate and pristine. ‘Say Laura’ perfectly incarnates the counter-intuitive interplay of instrument and voice that Chenaux has been revealing and revelling in throughout the past decade: his gently unhinged juxtaposition of resplendently smooth\, seductively assured singing and puckish\, thoroughly destabilized guitar could come from no other musician. The five wanderings\, wondering ballads on ‘Say Laura’ bring Chenaux’s semi-improvised but keenly intentional songwriting to its fullest\, most precise\, warmest and coolest articulation; uncompromising and generous\, hyper-specific and loose\, spartan and luxurious\, elemental and ornate.\nhttp://ericchenaux.com/ \nASHLEY PAUL & YONI SILVER will be performing music from Paul’s album ‘RAY’ released in late 2020 on Slip Imprint. Together they explore the fringes of song form and free improvisation\, dissecting melodies and slowly piecing them back\, alluding to shape but only occasionally binding together. It is as if Ashley Paul’s spaciously experimental\, playfully contrasting aesthetics have been eerily anticipating our strange times\, finally locking into the larger zeitgeist with her spellbinding album ‘RAY’.\nhttps://ashleypaul.bandcamp.com/album/ray-2

DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents: \n\nBUFFET LUNCH\nME LOST ME\nSHAKE CHAIN\n\nFriday\, Apr 1st 2022\nMoth Club\, Old Trades Hall\, Valette St\, London\, E9 6NU\n7.30pm | £7 | https://link.dice.fm/v9oNFWFE7hb\n(Tickets still valid from the postponed Cafe OTO\, Nov 6th 2021 show) \nBUFFET LUNCH is a Scottish group whose mission is to craft satisfyingly imperfect pop songs filled with imagery and humour. These four ricochets between Glasgow and Edinburgh create music that bristles with a DIY spirit and upbeat wonkiness. She recently released her second album\, ‘The Good Noise’\, out November 2020\, which was described as ‘stunning’ and ‘remarkable’ by NARC Magazine\, demonstrating a maturing of her sound and a deepening of her exploration of site and experiments with the genre.\nhttps://www.melostme.com/ \nSHAKE CHAIN is a 4-piece experimental group formed of artist Kate Mahony (Vocals)\, Joe Fergey (Drums)\, Robert Eyres (Guitar/Synth) and Chris Hopkins (Bass/Synth) hailing from Bournemouth\, London and Oxford. Shake Chain provides a fusion of post-punk grooves\, noise samples\, and chaotic lamenting on the current state.\nhttps://katemahony.com/Shake-Chain

SUMMARY:KRISTIN HERSH (Electric Trio) + FRED ABONG
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents: \nKRISTIN HERSH (Electric Trio)\nFRED ABONG\nThursday 21 April\nThe Garage\, 20-22 Highbury Corner\, London\, N5 1RD\n7.30pm | £25 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/LbdJu2HTUjb \nKRISTIN HERSH\, most recognised as the front person for the influential art-punk band Throwing Muses and power trio 50FOOTWAVE\, will be touring the U.K. in Spring 2019 with Rob Ahlers (50 Foot Wave) on drums and Fred Abong (Throwing Muses\, Belly) on bass. Throwing Muses first gained traction in the early ’80s\, playing with similarly singular artists\, such as The Pixies and Dinosaur Jr. They continue to release groundbreaking music\, most recently with 2013’s double CD masterpiece ‘Purgatory/Paradise. Kristin’s solo career spun off in 1994 with the release of ‘Hips and Makers’\, a widely acclaimed album that included ‘Your Ghost’\, a duet with R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe. Since then\, Kristin has released a steady stream of distinctly individual solo albums\, including 2010’s ‘Crooked’\, released as her first in the inventive book/CD format for which she is now known. \n \n2016’s ‘Wyatt at the Coyote Palace’\, on which Kristin played all of the instruments\, received rave reviews; an explosive defined by blistering guitars\, powerful drumming and her signature visceral vocal technique. Her poignant true stories bring the listener into what the B.B.C. calls Hersh’s “dark and dizzy world”. In 2004\, Kristin formed the noise rock power trio 50FOOTWAVE\, releasing a series of frighteningly intense mini-albums\, all available for download free of charge. Their most recent ‘Bath White’ E.P. was described as “a series of loud explosions\, of velvet-like dreams all intermingled at the same time. Bath White takes no prisoners.” Kristin’s writing career has flourished with the highly acclaimed ‘Paradoxical Undressing’ (released as ‘Rat Girl’ in the U.S.A.) and the award-winning ‘Don’t Suck\, Don’t Die’\, a personal account of her long friendship with the late Vic Chesnutt\, as well as the enchanting books which now accompany each of her record releases. Kristin’s tenth studio album\, ‘Possible Dust Clouds\,’ was a highly personalised sociopathic gem delivered as a futuristic rewriting of how music works\, a melodious breeze with a tailwind of venomous din. Enveloping the juxtaposition of the concept of ‘dark sunshine\, a brooding solo record was created with friends to expand her off-kilter sonic vision\, a squally\, squeaky mix of discordant beauty. ‘Possible Dust Clouds’ is a glorious return to form for one of alternative rock’s true innovators. \nHomepage \n \nFRED ABONG will be supporting Kristin on her current U.K. tour dates. Fred is a friend of Kristin’s and former Throwing Muses and Belly bass player. In addition\, Fred will be touring his new solo acoustic E.P.\, described by himself as sounding like a “ragged Replacements”.\nhttp://www.fredabong.com/music/

SUMMARY:Savage Mansion + Romeo Taylor + The Tubs - Live Music
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents: \nSAVAGE MANSION \n \nROMEO TAYLOR\nTHE TUBS\nFriday 22 April\nNew River Studios\, 199 Eade Rd\, Harringay\, London\, N4 1DN\n7.30pm | £7 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/Ee5af990c5b9 \nSAVAGE MANSION is a vehicle for the songs of Perth-raised singer and guitarist Craig Angus\, elsewhere featuring a revolving cast of musicians including Andrew Macpherson and Jamie Dubber (Catholic Action)\, Lewis Orr (Martha Ffion\, Space Rocket Garage Band) and Beth Chalmers (Martha Ffion\, Molly Linen). Quickly drawing attention for a high-energy live show and Craig’s melodic and eloquent guitar rock slices\, the band was invited to open for Frightened Rabbit at Glasgow’s Barrowland Ballroom. They drew the attention of Johnny Lynch (Pictish Trail)\, who offered to release the ‘Do You Say Hello To Your Neighbours?’ single on Lost Map. This February\, Savage Mansion release their new album ‘Golden Mountain\, Here I Come’\, solidifying their reputation as one of the UK’s most prolific emerging guitar bands and as a hardworking collective drawing from a diverse palette of musical\, literary influences. Re-emerging as a five-piece\, they’re back with a hook-laden\, poignant\, and cryptic record. It’s indie rock that’s an instant feast for the senses and a rich tapestry of sounds and words to pore over and savour.\nhttps://savagemansion.bandcamp.com/ \nROMEO TAYLOR is a cross-platform entertainer and all-around good guy\, a cherished personality on the DIY Glasgow music scene\, and a hilarious presence on Twitch\, YouTube & the Twitter-sphere. Romeo is the natural meeting point between Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark\, Gary Rhodes and World Wrestling Entertainment’s beloved ‘Attitude Era’\, making a mockery of the idea that everything’s been done before in music\, and we’re just repeating ourselves. The Coatbridge native is making quite a name for himself with a spectacular live show demonstrating his accomplished songcraft and comedic sensibilities. Look out for his music on Lost Map and Acid Waxa!\n \nTHE TUBS were formed in 2019 by Owen Williams and George Nicholls\, formerly of much-loved Welsh pop band Joanna Gruesome. The two hunkered down in rural North Wales to expand on the fuzzy\, hook-laden sounds they propagated in their former outfit\, this time incorporating elements of post-punk\, traditional British folk\, and guitar jangle seasoned by nonchalant Cleaners From Venus-influenced pop hooks & contemporary antipodean indie bands (Twerps/Goon Sax et al). After a few lineup shuffles\, they recruited Max Warren (bass)\, Steve Stonholdt (guitar) and Matthew Green (drums) to solidify the current lineup. Trouble In Mind co-released their newest effort worldwide\, the ‘Names’ 7-inch EP\, alongside Prefect Records in the UK.\nhttps://thetubs.bandcamp.com

SUMMARY:PET SHIMMERS + HAMBURGER
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents… \n\n\n\nPET SHIMMERSHAMBURGERThursday 16 JuneWindmill Brixton\, 22 Blenheim Gardens\, Brixton Hill\, London SW2 5BZ7.30pm | £7 | Tickets:  https://link.dice.fm/yb5e14d00eb4 \n\n\n\nPET SHIMMERS is an eclectic ensemble made of a collaborative core; solo artist (and recent Katy J Pearson collaborator) Oliver Wilde helms songwriting alongside William Carkeet\, emerging producer and one half of London duo Robbie & Mona. Newest recruit Jonny Allan once took center stage duties for the influential Happyness\, drummer Mig Schillace spent earlier years drumming for Portishead\, and bedroom solo project Soft Den sits with Florrie AL. Melody extraordinaire Lexie Jennings and guitarist Rich Clarke complete the ensemble. \n\n\n\nThe “Sonder” b/w “Edgelord” 7” is the first piece of new music to come from Pet Shimmers since 2020. It’s a moving mass of technicolor instrumentation – sparkling guitar\, taut percussion\, and crashes of noise. Songwriter Oliver Wilde’s poetic paranoia climbs towards a victorious chorus. It was the first track the group wrote following COVID restrictions\, and was recorded at The Louisiana\, a crucial grassroots venue in England that acts as a basement studio by night and a rehearsal space during the day. “Sonder” b/w “Edgelord” 7-inch\, is due out June 17th via Brokers Tip\, the label of Bob Nastanovich. \n\n\n\nhttps://petshimmers.bandcamp.com/ \n\n\n\nHAMBURGER are Tom\, Katie\, Liv\, Fearghall\, Mike and Doug; six goofs from Bristol playing “stupid songs about their stupid feelings”. Shimmery\, wistful bedroom pop with a 12” EP out now on Specialist Subject. The six tracks on ‘Teenage Terrified’ are highly crafted and reflective\, focusing on personal themes and emotions\, but often twisted through a semi-fantastical lens.https://hamburger.bandcamp.com/

SUMMARY:THE SPACE LADY
 + ROBERT SOTELO
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents… \n\n\n\nTHE SPACE LADYROBERT SOTELOFriday 1 JulyOSLO\, 1a Amhurst Road\, Hackney Central\, E8 1LL7pm-10pm | £12.50 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/J68e0e40746a \n\n\n\nTHE SPACE LADY began her odyssey on the streets of San Francisco in the late 70s\, playing versions of contemporary pop music an accordion and dressed flamboyantly\, transmitting messages of peace and harmony. Following the theft of her accordion\, The Space Lady invested in a then-new Casio keyboard\, birthing an otherworldly new dimension to popular song that has captured the imaginations of the underground and its lead exponents ever since\, with the likes of John Maus\, Erol Alkan and Kutmah being devotees. Of her early street sets\, only one recording was made\, self-released originally on cassette and then transferred to a homemade CD. ‘The Space Lady’s Greatest Hits’ released in 2014 through Night School features the best of these recordings – mostly covers but with some originals – pressed on vinyl for the first time and features archival photographs and liner notes from The Space Lady herself. ‘Greatest Hits’ contains The Space Lady’s personal favourites; her haunting take on The Electric Prunes’ ‘I Had Too Much To Dream (Last Night)\,’ a frantic ‘Ballroom Blitz’ amidst other reconstructed pop music. Following on from this wonderful record\, The Space Lady released a split LP in 2015 with the Burnt Ones on Castle Face records which included her spectral take of ‘Across The Universe’ and a recent LP from 2018 through Mississippi entitled ‘On The Street Of Dreams’.https://daily.bandcamp.com/features/exploring-the-intergalactic-wonders-of-the-space-lady \n\n\n\nROBERT SOTELO is a mercurial melodist building a resplendent world of pristine DIY pop from the ground up. The Glasgow-based artist’s songs are meticulously crafted\, patchworked together with eclectic arrangements and ardent vocal performances. Last year Upset The Rhythm released Robert Sotelo’s vivid new album ‘Celebrant’. ‘Celebrant’ was intended to be and still is to some extent a joyous wedding album (Sotelo is recently married)\, but in his own words “the pandemic and the death of my aunt Carmen intersected with the original concept so the album is darker than intended in places.” More cinematic and measured than prior albums\, Sotelo expounds that “it is purposefully a bigger sounding attempt at my keyboard songs and I felt more ambitious about it in general.” That’s certainly reflected in these twelve sophisticated loops of song\, all curiously affecting and catchy\, sprinkled with Sotelo’s offbeat musings and keenly accurate observations. Guitars are rarely employed on this record with Sotelo recruiting Iain Mccall\, Ross Blake\, Celia Morgan and David Maxwell to contribute brass\, woodwind\, spoken word and acoustic drums respectively. All of these additions blend well with the album’s synthetic core\, softening and subtly shaping its pop-first nature into something more nuanced\, vulnerable and human.https://robertsotelo.bandcamp.com/album/celebrant

SUMMARY:JUNE OF 44 + RATTLE
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm & Supersonic present… \nJUNE OF 44RATTLEFriday 8 July229\, 229 Great Portland St\, London\, W1W 5PN\, UK7pm | £20 (16+ show) | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/ae216c453036 \nJUNE OF 44 formed in the fall of 1994. They are a super-group collective with a rich underground lineage of members from beloved bands - Rodan\, Lungfish\, Codeine\, Rex\, Hoover and Shipping News. Truly a who’s who of the indie rock world\, together they have often been referred to as the punk rock pirates of the math rock world. The band are cited for their artistic hand-crafted record packaging for music that ranges from experimental jazz to ambient dub to angular post punk. June of 44 released their four totemic albums on Quarterstick in the 90s\, but in 2020 they announced their first studio album in 21 years. ‘Revisionist: Adaptations & Future Histories in the Time of Love and Survival’ came out recently on Broken Clover. “It will have been 23 years since performing in the United Kingdom… so much life\, too many wars\, so much music\, a few extraordinary babies\, heart-breaking loss\, real struggle\, epic success\, total failure – for all of us.”https://juneof44.bandcamp.com/ \nRATTLE are a Nottingham based duo\, Rattle focus almost exclusively on drums and more drums\, beneath a delicate overlay of vocal harmonies and percussive effects. Formed by Katharine Eira Brown and Theresa Wrigley\, Rattle began as an experiment in crafting rich songs and melody using drums and voice alone. Their music weaves and intertwines post-punk\, minimalism and experimental rock\, through off-kilter rhythms\, patterns and counter melodies. Rattle effortlessly blend the avant-garde with irresistible melodies and hypnotic drum beats\, using rhythm and harmony to create a refreshing sound that is utterly new – a pretty rare feat these days when we’re saturated with so much music. Rattle’s impressive ‘Sequence’ album came out through Upset The Rhythm.https://rattleon.bandcamp.com/

Running with the ball that 2020’s “Serve To Serve Again” punted forward\, this album marks another energetic break towards the goal for Vintage Crop. ‘Kibitzer’ sees the band define their field of play\, more melodic at times\, still bruising\, forever droll. These ten tracks of ‘snappy as elastic’ Australian punk are packed with tensile riffage\, hefty beats and witty refrains of everyman curiosity. ‘Kibitzer’ delves into themes of identity\, resilience and acceptance; some of the more upbeat notions that the band have dealt with to date. ‘Casting Calls’ opens the record\, slamming through the speakers with gusto and setting the tone for the following 30 minutes. These themes hit home with the album’s title too\, with Cherry feeling that ‘Kibitzer’ is an apt way to describe a lot of the band’s focus. “I feel like a lot of our lyrics over the years have been our unsolicited opinions on other people’s situations\, the very definition of the word Kibitzer. So for this record we wanted to lean into that tendency by acknowledging it and even go as far as stamping it on the album cover.” \n\n\n\n\nhttps://vintagecrop.bandcamp.com/\n\n\n\n\nMARCEL WAVE write eulogies for tragic actresses\, ancient riverbeds and concrete obscenity. SUMMARY:QUINTRON & MISS PUSSYCAT + BRUNO AND THE OUTRAGEOUS METHODS OF PRESENTATION
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents…. \n\n\n\nQUINTRON & MISS PUSSYCATBRUNO AND THE OUTRAGEOUS METHODS OF PRESENTATIONTuesday 12 July
The Lexington\, 96-98 Pentonville Rd\, Angel\, London\, N1 9JB
7.30pm | £12 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/x2ade9b7daea \n\n\n\nQUINTRON & MISS PUSSYCAT have been making genre-defying noise and hard rocking dance music in New Orleans for over twenty years. The majority of their 17 full-length albums have the psychedelic soul of traditional New Orleans party music\, filtered through a vintage Hammond B-3\, technicolor puppets\, and a battalion of distorted\, homemade instruments. This summer\, the duo will be joined on tour by two New Orleans musicians\, drummer Sam Yoger and “talk boxer” Benni Divine\, to recreate their most recent Goner LP\, ‘Goblin Alert’ as well as butchering the best of the old songs. The Quintron / Miss Pussycat experience is one of barely controlled electronic chaos\, “Swamp-Tech” dance beats\, small explosions\, incredible clothes\, and entertaining puppet stories. \n\n\n\nQuintron and Miss Pussycat’s sweaty musical blasts are paralleled in spirit and performance by Miss Pussycat’s dreamy puppet worlds – elaborate\, and beautifully crafted for success in intimate venues of late- night drinking and dancing. She has also had several major solo museum exhibitions and\, although the puppets are never for sale\, ceramics\, paintings and other visual work related to her puppetry\, are represented by the Webb Gallery in Waxahachie Texas.http://www.quintronandmisspussycat.com/ \n\n\n\nBRUNO AND THE OUTRAGEOUS METHODS OF PRESENTATION is a situationist / aktionist un-group masterminded by the precocious teenage brat Bruno Bof Wilkinson. Bruno is a multi-faceted neuro-amazing proto-superstar\, splatter-gunning golden gems of power-pop\, garage-punk\, nihilistic electro-void darkness and plain super-catchy teeth-rattlers. Created in Bristol in 2006 from Brazilian/English motherfatherlodes he’s played with The Nightingales\, Damo Suzuki\, Adulkt Life\, Babyshakes\, Beak and a whole bunch more. You can see him fronting his own band\, The Outrageous Methods Of Presentation\, guesting with Bristol garage indie-punk legends Bucky\, fronting Bath oi-punks Shiner and occasionally bursts to the front of the stage to guest with Alter Moderns. Bruno appeals to fans of Crime\, Jonathan Richman\, Guided By Voices\, Electric Eels\, The Kinks\, Television\, The Stooges\, Swell Maps and Huggy Bear! \n\n\n\n\nhttps://outrageousmethodsofpresentation.bandcamp.com/

SUMMARY:WRECKLESS ERIC + MEATRAFFLE + LILITH AI
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm & Hello Goodbye present… \n\n\n\nHG20 : ‘A fundraiser celebrating 20 years of Hello Goodbye and Resonance FM’ \n\n\n\nWRECKLESS ERICMEATRAFFLELILITH AISaturday 30 JulyMOTH Club\, Old Trades Hall\, Valette St\, London\, E9 6NU7.30pm – 10.30pm | £10 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/N6957a30c1ea \n\n\n\nWRECKLESS ERIC is Eric Goulden. He was given the name to hide behind. After a while he realized he was stuck with it. Onstage he hides behind nothing\, he tells the truth with big open chords\, lilting enchantment\, squalls of feedback\, dissonance\, bizarre stories and backchat. Eric began his recording life on Stiff Records in 1977 with his enduring hit Whole Wide World when he was little more than an ex-teenage art student. Eventually he sidestepped the mechanics of stardom to become Britain’s biggest underground household name\, much loved and often underestimated. His 2015 album ‘amERICa’ reminded those who’ve kept the faith and new generations of fans what he’s all about. He won’t recreate 1978 for you\, he’ll blow your mind instead. \n\n\n\n\nhttps://wrecklesseric.com/\n\n\n\n\nMEATRAFFLE is a common chord running through the leftist brigades of the South London art scene. For Meatraffle it is the political\, the platonic\, the comradeship of the struggle that provides true artistic grist.https://meatraffle1917.bandcamp.com/ \n\n\n\nLILITH AI is a guitarist\, who writes and performs poignant tales of modern life. Hailing from nowhere special\, Lilith began releasing lo-fi bedroom recordings in 2016. Her first EP RIOT is full of underground anthems popular with Riot grrrls word wide. Her second EP Native Tongue chronicles her teen years\, spent living on the streets of Queens New York. 2019 saw the release of 3rd EP Bare Radical with evolving sounds.  Lilith’s artfully delivered songs fit somewhere between indie pop and anti-folk.https://lilithai.bandcamp.com/music

SUMMARY:THE MONOCHROME SET + THE MINDREADERS + DEE BYRNE & CATH ROBERTS
DESCRIPTION:THE MONOCHROME SET are a highly influential English new wave band\, originally formed in London in 1978 by Bid (vocals & guitar)\, Lester Square (lead guitar)\, and J D Haney (from The Art Attacks\, on drums).  In 1979\, they signed to Rough Trade and released three singles\, “He’s Frank”\, “Eine Symphonie Des Grauens”\, and “The Monochrome Set”. They released their debut studio album\, “Strange Boutique”\, produced by Bob Sargeant in 1980. Their classic follow-up album\, “Love Zombies”\, was produced by Alvin Clark and the band\, later that same year.  In 2018\, the 40th year since the band formed\, their 14th studio album\, “Maisieworld” and a box set\, “The Monochrome Set 1979–1985: Complete Recordings”\, was released. The group’s most recent album ‘Allhallowtide’ was released earlier this year.http://www.themonochromeset.co.uk/ \n\n\n\nTHE MINDREADERS are Richard Ipaint on vocals and drums\, Sexton Ming on vocals\, sfx and guitar\, and Russ Wilkins on vocals and guitar\, with all three on songwriting duty too. Fans of The Pop Rivets\, The Milkshakes\, The Natural Born Lovers\, Rocking Richard\, The Delmonas\, Auntie Vegetable\, The Wildebeests and more will know all about them. Debut album ‘Ban The Mindreader’ was released in 1987 on Russ’ Empire Records label\, with some extra gig recordings to bulk it out. Some of the gig recordings also found their way to the Medway Powerhouse compilations on Hangman Records. Fast forward 30 years\, Russ and Richard realised they only lived 25 miles apart in Scotland\, and now much wiser\, a connection was made from Sexton (now also much wiser) who wanted to do something dim and simple. A gig was arranged in Hastings which led on to more gigs! Following on from the gigs\, they convened in a garage and recorded some songs over two days onto a Tascam 8 track\, 1/2” recorder\, playing whatever they felt worked\, recording over twenty tracks. The fruits from this labour were released last year by Spinout Nuggets as the LP ‘Continuation’.https://soundcloud.com/spinoutnuggets/sets/the-mindreaders-continuation \n\n\n\nDEE BYRNE & CATH ROBERTS released their first album on Luminous in 2020. Mixed by Alex Bonney\, Disembark! is a series of short acoustic improvisations recorded at Gun Factory Studios. Disembark! is a series of short\, spontaneous improvisations that explore a dramatic range of textures\, whilst maintaining the sense of an ongoing\, inquisitive conversation. The recording came about after a series of live duo performances; going into the studio seemed like the next logical step.https://luminouslabel.bandcamp.com/album/disembark
