DESCRIPTION:HTC is celebrating the launch of the VIVE Cosmos\, its latest premium PC-based Virtual Reality (VR) system\, and has teamed up with BBC Studios to offer Doctor Who fans the chance to embark on an adventure with the Doctor by stepping into the legendary TARDIS (spoiler: it’s bigger on the inside) \nOn Friday 27th and Saturday 28th September\, visitors to the Protein Studios experience in Hackney will be fully immersed in the sci-fi world of Doctor Who through the riveting new VR experience ‘Doctor Who: The Edge of Time’. \nAttendees will be amongst the first to try ‘Doctor Who: The Edge of Time’ \, produced by Maze Theory for BBC Studios\, and have the chance to take up the role of the Doctor’s assistant. After stepping into the TARDIS\, players will interact with the Doctor themselves and will try to pilot the spacecraft – which is temperamental at the best of times – before embarking on an epic adventure to solve the mystery behind the ‘Reality Virus’. \nDuring the event\, visitors will use HTC’s newly released VR headset\, the VIVE Cosmos\, which is built to be the highest performance and most versatile headset on the market. \nEach 30 minute slot will include a 15 minute experience. Please arrive 15 minutes before your slot\, slots will be held 5 minutes after the start time\, after which time they will be re-allocated. \nPlease note: Players must be aged 12+

His research focuses on information and communication technologies in the Middle East\nand educational games and simulations. As part of his doctoral studies\, he completed a research internship at Nortwestern University in Chicago on a Fulbright scholarship. Vít Šisler is the main designer of the game Attentat 1942. \nJakub Gemrot studied computer science at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics\, Charles University. He is currently teaching at the Charles University. In 2015 he was involved in the creation of a new field “computer game development.” Jakub Gemrot is the managing director of Charles Games and one of the programmers of the game Attentat 1942. \nPRESENTER \nMichael Londesborough\, British scientist working at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic\, where he focuses on research into boron compounds. DESCRIPTION:*This event has been postponed to 9 March 2024 due to train strikes\, we apologise for any inconvenience caused.*\n\nCurated by artist David Blandy and writer Jamie Sutcliffe in association with Strange Attractor Press\, Areas Of Effect: Planar Systems\, Critical Roles\, and Gaming Imaginaries is a one-day symposium on Tabletop Role Playing Games (TTRPGs) with live game sessions.\n\n\n\n\n\nForming part of arebyte’s programme The Body\, The Mind\, The Soul which questions the complex nature of humanity in the realm of technological progress\, the event brings together artists\, game designers\, theorists\, and philosophers to discuss these wildly expansive forms of play in which players utilise both their imaginations and chance mechanics (such as dice rolls) to determine the actions of fictional characters and the scenarios surrounding them.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe symposium looks at TTRPGs as the physical interface between the body and the imaginary\, addressing the hopes currently instilled in tabletop play to act as a transformative activity. As such\, this form of play presents novel opportunities for immersive experience\, problem solving\, moral dilemma\, but perhaps most importantly\, communal storytelling.\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers at the event include acclaimed RPG designers Emmy Allan\, Kayla Dice\, Mike Mason\, Chris McDowall\, Samuel Mui\, and Zedeck Siew\, alongside writers\, historians and theorists such as Stu Horvath\, Timothy Linward\, Mark Pilkington\, and Simon O’Sullivan.\n\n\n\n\n\nAn exhibition of TTRPGs-inspired video games by artists Kitty Clark\, Uma Breakdown\, John Powell-Jones\, Petra Szemán\, and Holly White are hosted on computers and available to play for visitors throughout the whole event.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe day culminates in live TTRPG play sessions of the games ECOMOFOS!! by artist David Blandy and SUPERZEROES by TTRPG game designer Samuel Mui\, amongst others\, inviting the audience to play with a deck of uniquely designed TTRPG playing cards.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe event features a selection of merchandise and publications from Strange Attractor Press and independent London-based bookshop Igloo Tree.\n\n\n\n\n\nRead more about the event here.\n\n\n\n\n\nSymposium programme:\n\n\n\n\n\n11 – 11:15am: INTRODUCTION TO TTRPGS by David Blandy and Jamie Sutcliffe\n\n\n\n\n\nStarting off the symposium\, Jamie and David welcome visitors\, introduce the programme for the day and touch upon the world of TTRPGS.\n\n\n\n\n\n11:15 – 11:45am: ON ROLEPLAYING GAMES by Simon O’ Sullivan\n\n\n\n\n\nArtist and theorist Simon O’Sullivan will begin the symposium with a keynote talk considering the imaginative spaces and practices of role-playing games considered a distinct form of fiction.\n\n\n\n\n\n11:45am – 1pm: BETWEEN HEXCRAWLS AND BIOSPHERES with Holly White\, Zedeck Siew\, David Blandy (chair)\n\n\n\n\n\nExploring the myriad functions of speculative ecology in role-playing environments\, addressing the creation of flora\, fauna and folklore that work to colour and complicate diverse worlds of play in a time of ecological collapse.\n\n\n\n\n\n1:40 – 3pm: FROM ODD PASTS TO GRIMDARK FUTURES with Timothy Linward\, Kayla Dice\, Chris McDowall (chair)\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom privately imagined locales to vast\, communally written mega texts\, this discussion will focus on the process and practice of worldbuilding\, interrogating the various textures of myth and fabulation\, asking to what ends our novel worlds might be put.\n\n\n\n\n\n3 – 3:25pm: MONSTERS\, ALIENS\, AND HOLES IN THE GROUND by Stu Horvath\n\n\n\n\n\nTTRPG historian and co-host of the Vintage RPG Podcast Stu Horvath introduces his landmark new book Monsters\, Aliens\, and Holes In The Ground: A Guide to Tabletop Roleplaying Games From D&D To Mothership\, published in 2023 by the MIT Press.\n\n\n\n\n\n3:35 – 5pm: NAMELESS HORRORS! CREEPING FLESH! with Mike Mason\, Emmy Allen\, Sam Mui\, Mark Pilkington\n\n\n\n\n\nFocusing on the aesthetics\, politics\, and arresting experiences of horror\, this conversation will look to various exercises in the macabre\, horrific\, and supernatural to test role-playing’s capacities for innovative storytelling\, moral quandary\, and new forms of autobiographical fiction.\n\n\n\n\n\n5:15 – 8:30pm: LIVE TTRPG PLAY with David Blandy\, Samuel Mui\n\n\n\n\n\nFollowing these insightful talks\, have a go at playing alternative TTRPGs with friends and other visitors! The games will be facilitated by TTRPG experts and game designers.\n\n\n\n\n\nThroughout the entire symposium\, a selection of TTRPG-inspired video games will be free to be played on computers in the gallery. DESCRIPTION:Find out all about the contemporary Czech gaming industry\, discover (and play!) fascinating games from global hits to indie games by small studios\, and learn about the creative processes behind them. With a presentation by journalist and photographer Pavel Dobrovský\, a leading Czech expert on the gaming industry. \n  \nJoin the Private View of the exhibition project Infinite Universes – Czech Games and Their Global Success\, which introduces the contemporary Czech gaming industry in all its complexity. While showcasing individual games\, the exhibition also presents the creative process behind the game-making with a focus on selected elements that define individual studios and their approaches to chosen themes\, as well as the games’ educational and artistic value.  \nThe selection of exhibits curated by Miroslav Žák\, founder of Visiongame\, focuses on audio-visual qualities of the games as well as their relationship to Czech culture and history. Czech video games often reflect the Czech tradition of authorial animation. They excel in unique solutions for their inner structures\, incorporating audio design\, and in the way they work with stories\, including many social themes. Moreover\, video games developed in Czechia gain international recognition and awards for their creative approaches\, inspiring messages\, artistic qualities\, and educational characteristics. Czechia is home to more than 130 developer companies\, employing over 2000 people. New specialised university programmes are being made\, schools\, incubators\, or accelerators\, pushing the whole industry forward. \n  \nWhat can you expect?\nAt the exhibition the visitors will be able to play a great selection of Czech video games on one of our four gaming stations\, sit back and listen to the music from the video games by Czech and international composers on vinyl\, immerse themselves in the fascinating world of video graphic art\, explore figures and toys featuring characters from the games and watch one of the characters being printed on a 3D printer. \nComplimentary drinks will be provided. \n  \nThe exhibition will be on until 31st August. SUMMARY:WiFi Wars: Easter Extravaganza
DESCRIPTION:For the first time ever\, WiFi Wars present an EGGStremely EASTERrific version of their smash hit live comedy game show\, in London’s West End. Developed in residence at the prestigious Royal Institution in London over the last ten years\, Wi-Fi Wars is unique in that the entire audience all play along.
