SUMMARY:Carromancy Divination Workshop with Rose-Marie Luk
DESCRIPTION:With the flickering glow of candlelight\, we will convene to unlock ancient wisdom and the language of the spirit. This workshop invites you to explore Carromancy Divination\, the timeless art of interpreting abstract forms from melted wax to access hidden messages by tapping into the subconscious\, and to set personal intentions for the days ahead. \nHeld within IMT Gallery’s group exhibition\, The House\, featuring works that all\, often through degrees of autobiography\, speaks to some of the discordances of being at home: perhaps the anticipation of order amidst the everyday; or an expectation of comfort\, often amidst insecurity or tension. In dialogue with the exhibition\, carromancy invites you to attune to the subtle emotional landscapes of home. \nImmerse yourself in the gallery space\, subtly infused with aromatic lavender to relax the mind and calm the senses. A curated experience awaits: watch as lilac wax is poured into water to create abstract forms\, engage in guided sketching to capture fleeting shapes\, and join in meditative reflections that draw you closer to your intuitive self.  \nIn this two-hour workshop led by interdisciplinary artist Rose-Marie Luk\, you will: \n\nDiscover the ancient origins of Carromancy\, tracing its roots from Celtic druids to diverse indigenous traditions.\n\n\nEngage in a step-by-step creative process: pouring\, observing\, drawing\, and interpreting the shifting forms of candle wax.\n\n\nCraft a unique talisman spell jar by combining your wax creation with foraged objects and healing crystals\, imbuing it with your personal intentions for self-awareness and transformation.\n\n\nParticipate in reflective meditations designed to harmonise your creative energies and deepen your connection to the universe.\n\nAbout Rose-Marie Luk \nRose-Marie Luk explores her cross-cultural identity through transformative art practices that channel ancestral wisdom\, evoke forgotten memories\, and uncover hybrid creations. Using automatic techniques and sigil calligraphy\, she bridges the sacred and the spiritual\, transmuting confoundment into clarity. Rose-Marie’s practice speaks to lost languages and evolving identities\, encouraging connection\, growth\, and self discovery. In this workshop\, Rose-Marie channels ancient divination practices to help you reconnect with your inner vision and discover the alchemy of transformation. \nWhat To Expect  \nBelow we offer you a glimpse of what to expect from Rose-Marie’s workshop\, as told by previous participants:  \n“[…] It exceeded expectations! I found this very interesting and relaxing. The environment has been so calm\, friendly and welcoming. I’ve loved how accessible this has been for someone who doesn’t consider themselves as a ‘natural’ artist as such.” \n“It’s a beautiful process to pace out and spend time doing – it gave space for really going with initial impression and working upon that.” \n“I learnt a lot about shifting how I observe and letting in the oracle nature of carromancy. It is worth trying because it is a unique way of spending an evening with others.” \nThis workshop is open to all—artists\, writers\, dreamers\, cloud-gazers\, poetic thinkers\, deep feelers\, curious explorers\, and open minded visionaries alike. \nPlease bring your preferred drawing materials and sketchbook\, additional supplies will also be provided. \nReserve your spot now for an evening of inspiration and connection. A limited number of tickets are available free of charge for residents of Tower Hamlets. These places have been lovingly created with support from Tower Hamlets Council.

SUMMARY:Guest House: Sewing a Palm Tree Workshop with Elle Reynolds
DESCRIPTION:All are invited into the Guest House\, a shared\, temporary workspace formed through collective contribution and the relaxed palava of conversation. You don’t need to sew a palm tree if you don’t want to! \nParticipants are invited to sit together\, sew by hand\, talk\, listen\, share stories\, or simply observe. Some may choose to sew palm trees\, while others may work on repairs\, small tests\, or nothing at all. Conversation\, silence\, and informal knowledge-sharing are all part of the process\, as the work develops slowly and collectively over the session. \nThe workshop is led by artist Elle Reynolds\, whose practice works through collaborative processes\, storytelling\, and material experimentation. Her work explores making as a way of thinking together\, with a particular interest in shared authorship\, provisional forms\, and the social life of materials. \nParticipants will experience sewing as a social and conversational practice\, build confidence working with their hands in a low-pressure environment\, and contribute to a shared\, provisional body of work. The session offers space to reflect on ideas of elsewhere\, slowness\, care\, and collective making\, rather than producing a defined outcome. \nThe Guest House takes place within IMT Gallery’s group exhibition\, The House\, featuring works that all\, often through degrees of autobiography\, speak to some of the discordances of being at home: perhaps the anticipation of order amidst the everyday; or an expectation of comfort\, often amidst insecurity or tension. The exhibition includes Elle Reynolds’ film Morass and sculptural sound piece Black Sun Loungers: The Caribbean Gaze. \nAbout Elle Reynolds: \nArtist/scholarresearcherquiet disrupter\, Elle Reynolds has a background in organising practice. She continually challenges traditional institutional structures\, reimagining the use of time and space. Her art-making under the pseudonym Guest-Host-Guest includes object installation\, collaborative events\, performative storytelling\, and interventions that unsettle the notion of the archive through spatial exploration\, participation\, and the disruption of academic language. She holds a PhD investigating alternative art school spaces and serves as a Non-Executive Director and Board member of TOMA (The Other MA)\, an alternative art school in Southend-on-Sea\, Essex. Recent projects include workshops for New Contemporaries and Creative Break Time. She is currently Programme Leader of the Graduate Diploma in Art at Goldsmiths. \nAll materials including fabric\, threads\, embroidery rings and needles will be provided\, and herbal tea served. No experience is necessary\, just bring your curiosity\, a willingness to get hands-on\, and an open mind. \nTo keep this workshop intimate\, spaces are limited; reserve your spot now for an evening of creativity\, conversation\, and connection.

SUMMARY:Peter Peri in Conversation with Dávid Fehér – Book launch and display of recent paintings
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Liszt Institute London for an evening celebrating the launch of a new monograph on Peter Peri\, published by Einspach Czapolai Fine Art. \nPeri will be in conversation with Dávid Fehér\, Director of the Central European Research Institute for Art History of the Museum of Fine Arts. Their discussion will explore Peri’s artistic practice\, key themes in his work\, and the ideas shaping his most recent projects\, offering insight into both the newly published monograph and his wider artistic trajectory. \nThe event will also feature a display of Peri’s latest paintings in the gallery\, providing a unique opportunity to experience his practice first-hand alongside the critical perspectives presented in the publication. \nCopies of the book will be available on site. All are welcome to attend. Register via Eventbrite. \n\n\nPeter Peri (b. 1971\, London) \nPeter Peri’s primary media are drawing\, sculpture\, and painting: three distinct bodies of work that are developed independently by the artist to create a complex set of interrelations. All works are specifically invested in the tension between line and volume\, figuration and abstraction\, and in the questioning of tradition and influence in Modernism. \nA graduate of Chelsea College of Art\, he made his debut at Bloomberg New Contemporaries in 2003. He has exhibited widely internationally\, including Tate Britain\, the Hayward Gallery\, and Kunsthalle Basel. Peri’s work can be found in the collections of Tate\, the Victoria & Albert Museum\, and the Museum of Fine Arts\, Budapest. Peri’s work has a personal connection to Modernism. His grandfather was Peter László Péri (1899–1967)\, a Hungarian émigré to Britain who was involved in Constructivism before turning to architecture and later in his life to Realism \n\n\nDávid Fehér \nDávid Fehér is an art historian\, director of the Central European Research Institute for Art History of the Museum of Fine Arts\, and assistant professor at the Institute of Art History at the Eötvös Loránd University. His research covers 20th-century and contemporary art\, including Pop Art\, Photorealism\, and related movements. He has curated numerous exhibitions and has published widely in academic journals\, exhibition catalogues\, and art publications. He is a member of the Hungarian Section of the International Association of Art Critics.

SUMMARY:Lancelot Ribeiro: Heads – In and Out of Our Time - Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Ben Uri Gallery & Museum\, 108a Boundary Road\, St John’s Wood\, London NW8 ORH – Open: 18 September–29 November\, Wednesdays to Fridays: 10 am – 5.30 pm.   \nThis revealing exhibition is part of Ben Uri’s principal focus on researching\, digitally documenting\, disseminating and celebrating the importance of the Jewish\, Refugee\, and broad Immigrant contribution to British visual culture since 1900 – see buru.org.uk and diasporaartists.net both resources within benuri.org. \nThe Ben Uri Research Unit (BURU) is honoured to partner with the Estate of Lancelot Ribeiro to present Lancelot Ribeiro: Heads—In and Out of Our Time\, borrowing its title from the artist’s long-planned but unrealised concept for an exhibition. Featuring 20 paintings and drawings\, it focuses on Ribeiro’s preoccupation with portraiture and imagined heads from two of the most innovative decades of his practice\, the 1960s and the 1990s. \nBorn into a Catholic Goan family in present-day Mumbai in 1933\, Ribeiro followed his older half-brother F N Souza to Britain in 1950\, after India’s independence and Partition. After returning to India and becoming an artist\, Ribeiro settled permanently in Britain in 1962. Inspired by Indian and Goan architecture and the Christian tradition in which he was raised\, he utilised his heads and portraits to explore concepts of power and evil\, described by one reviewer as: ‘Colonialists\, kings\, tyrants\, Christ (resurrected)\, tycoons\, women and thugs’ (Bombay Artist Aid Centre review\, 1961)\, among them the monumental Crowned King (c. 1963) and powerful King Lear (1964\, Ben Uri Collection). Ribeiro’s experiments with new materials\, among them polyvinyl acetate or PVA (a precursor of acrylic paint)\, sometimes mixed with other nontraditional media\, including string\, resulting in a set of radical\, faceless\, abstracted heads\, known as the Psychedelic Man series. In his later work\, Ribeiro often worked on a large scale\, employing brilliant acrylics mixed with elements of collage while disassembling\, reimagining and reinvigorating the head in works including the vivid blue Madonna\, Rising from the Banks of Main. Yet Ribeiro’s close friend and fellow poet\, Indian translator and critic R. Parthasarathy suggests that Ribeiro’s ‘true subject’ was always his ‘origins – Goan roots\, estrangement from India\, and exile in London’. \nA supporting display in the lower galleries features 20 stylistically diverse and innovative paintings\, sculptures\, and works on paper of heads and portraits from the Ben Uri collection by artists including Frank Auerbach\, David Breuer-Weil\, Dodo\, Alfred Harris\, Sarah Lightman\, Alfred Lomnitz\, Hormazd Narielwalla\, Oscar Nemon\, Mosheh Oved\, Paul Richards\, and Samuel Fyzee-Rahamin. \nThe exhibition will be accompanied by a series of related talks and events and a fully illustrated online publication with essays by contributors\, including the artist’s daughter\, Marsha Ribeiro\, poet and critic R. Parthasarathy\, and conservator Patricia Smithen.

SUMMARY:Plant Gazing: Under Vine Moon Workshop with Joseph Walsh
DESCRIPTION:Connect with Earth’s plant allies through drawing\, painting and tea ceremony… \nAs we approach September’s Waning Crescent Moon\, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to connect with plant allies and set personal intentions for the month ahead. \nIn alchemy\, the art of drawing plants holds a twofold significance. On one level it represents the material aspect of the alchemical process\, of sunlight and water becoming stem\, leaf and flower. On a deeper symbolic level\, the depiction of plants embodies the concept of growth and transformation\, informing the practitioner – an alchemical self* \nImmerse yourself in the IMT Gallery space\, subtly infused with Yarrow and Rosemary\, earthy and clearing. A curated selection of plants will be available for drawing\, accompanied by prompts and guidance on the techniques of plant gazing and observation. \nIn this two hour workshop we will explore the mysteries of plants through drawing\, painting\, and meditative observations\, we will go beyond the confines of the ordinary. \nTake a moment to reconnect to our bodies and the living world through a serene tea ceremony\, grounding ourselves in the present moment. We will select from the hedgerow with hawthorn\, rosehip or hops. We will also consider the hedgerow as thicket\, stopover and shelter for beings. \nAbout Joseph Walsh \nJoseph Walsh\, an artist rooted in forging human-nature connections through his work with plants. Using drawing\, painting and film to actualise a co-existing with nature. He studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths University\, and recently delivered the course Floral Time: How Artists Describe Plants at the Berlin Art Institute\, workshops at Beaconsfield Gallery and No Show Space\, as well as sharing insights with art students at Goldsmiths and Reading University. \nWhat To Expect \nBelow we offer you a glimpse of what to expect from Joseph’s workshop\, as told by previous participants:\n“The workshop was well structured\, and thus we were able to connect with the plant on a deeper level. Joe is a meticulous facilitator. Thank you”. \n“A very naturally held space offering freedom to be intuitive\, and be yourself. The time flowed perfectly. An exploration and very close look into the oneness\, mirroring thoughts within the group. What a full whole\, rich experience with the plants\, yourself and each other.”\n\n“Mindful\, healing\, educational\, communal” \nWhile drawing materials will be provided\, feel free to bring your own sketchbooks and preferred materials to enhance your experience. \n*Observations made by Joseph plant gazing under waxing crescent moon\, with rose – “In alchemy the rose is symbolic of conjunction\, it is supporting and underlying the marriage of opposites. Soft\, buffering\, slowing down. Small insects dwell within petals\, cushioned\, intoxicated. This is how it felt for me too. The bee moves closer to the centre\, three rounds of rose tea. Perfumed aroma in swirls and spirals\, circular time. Definition and edge dissolved. Petals unfurling. Surrender myself to it. Rose is associated with love and romance”. \nReserve your spot now for an evening of inspiration and connection. A limited number of tickets are available free of charge for residents of Tower Hamlets. These places have been lovingly created with support from Tower Hamlets Council. \nSee you there!

SUMMARY:Against All Odds - Free Arts Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:A solo art exhibition of bronze sculpture and graphite drawings by the award-winning international sculptor Teresa Wells MRSS. Teresa’s work is inspired by the question\, “How do Humans Behave?” \n\n\n\nShe takes inspiration from the ability of mankind to survive in the face of adversity (Against All Odds).  Her forms evoke unease and tension as she balances each piece on edge.  \n\n\n\nInfluenced by a moral upbringing\, she challenges a contemporary expectation of perfection to celebrate that our whole selves\, including flaws\, make us incredible.

SUMMARY:Velvet Society – المجتمع المخملي: Power and Glamour in 90s Damascus\, Syria
DESCRIPTION:With Velvet Society\, we strive to empower Syrian women and culture: it is an exhibition displaying the creative acts of survival in fashion and fabric of two Syrian women\, civil engineer Raghad Mardini and Artist Heba Al-Akkad. The exhibition is in conjunction with Refugee Week. We have also organised a series of interactive events that will complement the exhibition\, including two workshops\, one artist-led tour of the exhibition\, one live panel and one webinar.\n. \n\n\n\nAbout The Exhibition\n\n\n\n\nLitehouse Gallery is honoured to present Velvet Society\, an exhibition displaying the creative acts of survival in fashion and fabric of two Syrian women\, civil engineer Raghad Mardini and artist Heba Al-Akkad. The 90s fashion collection of Mardini\, emanating from the wealthy and powerful class of the self-styled “velvet society” prominent in 90s Syria\, will be juxtaposed with a range of vibrant artworks made in fabric and fibre by Heba Al-Akkad. A powerful dialogue will be established between these collections\, to expose a Damascus of the 90s dominated by complexes of glamour and power\, at once joyful yet troubled\, wielded both by and against the women in question.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe exhibition centres itself around the stories of these two Syrian Muslim women. From differing backgrounds\, they\, as refugees from the Syrian uprising\, struck up a friendship founded on a mutual interest in creativity within visual arts. Viewers will bear witness to their testimonies of liberation from religious and patriarchal violence. Photographs\, art objects and items of fashion are displayed to invigorate a commentary on feminism\, female freedom and Syrian history\, linked by the medium of textiles.\n\n\n\n\n\nProf. Janis Jefferies\, Emeritus Professor at Goldsmiths University\, has explained the salience of clothes in this exhibition:\n\n\n\n\nClothing carries powerful signs of non-verbal communication. It covers us\, it represents individual identities that can be played with\, disrupted and challenge what we do in our everyday lives\, both physically and sexually. If we are displaced or exiled from our homes or driven out by war\, what we wear changes. In this exhibition we see how two Muslim women become friends. They connect through art\, through their different relationship with material; a veil is worn\, designer labels are displayed. Photographs act as documents; new objects are made.\n\n\n\n\nBy bringing these stories to UK audiences in a seductive yet forceful exhibition\, fashion devotees and art lovers alike will explore the political nature of clothing\, how it shapes the representation of women in fashion\, society and art. Beliefs about Middle Eastern women will be challenged and a broader and richer recent Syrian history will emerge.\n\n\n\n\n\nHeba Al-Akkad was born in Damascus in 1981. She graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Damascus University 2006. She now lives and works in Gothenburg\, Sweden\, where she has been able to escape the cycle of familial violence and abuse that she suffered since girlhood. She has had solo shows across Europe and the Middle East. Litehouse Gallery has commissioned work from Al-Akkad on themes of self-identity and dress.\n\n\n\n\n\nRaghad Mardini\, on the other hand\, found herself inducted into the “velvet society”\, a figurative term for a class involved in high business and power in Syria during the 90s. Photographs from Mardini’s archive will give visual evidence of the velvet society\, which\, after many years of negotiating its excesses and its alienating demands\, she finally decided to reject. These photographs will be shown alongside a fashion collection supplied by western designers including Dior\, Versace\, Mugler\, Chanel\, Galliano\, YSL\, Alaia as well as Syrian designer Nicola Khoury\, all of which Mardini wore during her time within the velvet society. The exhibition will not just highlight the vibrancy of those times and the relentless glamour demanded in the velvet society\, but will look deeper into how female sexuality was weaponised in the game of politics and money.\n\n\n\n\n\nThis is an exhibition about how\, in 90s Damascus\, fabric dazzled\, lured\, sheltered\, bound\, concealed\, and\, as time wore on\, changed.\n\n.\n\n\n\n\nProgramme of Events\n\n\n\n\nAlongside the exhibition\, we are organising a series of events ranging from workshops and live panels. Like the exhibition\, these events are completely free to attend and require pre-booking. Many Syrian artists who had fled to Lebanon were unable to continue their practice due to trauma and financial hardship. At ARA\, for a month\, they had bed\, board\, space\, freedom\, and all the materials needed to enable them to make art again. ARA also curated exhibitions and performances worldwide.\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nEmail info@litehousegallery.co.uk\n\n\n\n\n\nWebsite www.litehousegallery.co.uk\n\n\n\n\n\nOnline Shop www.litehousegalleryshop.co.uk/\n\n\n\n\n\nPhone +44 7833 700 984\n\n.\n\n\n\n\n\nQuick-links www.linktr.ee/litehousegallery\n\n\n\n\n\nInstagram www.instagram.com/litehousegallery\n\n\n\n\n\nFacebook www.facebook.com/litehousegallery\n\n\n\n\n\nTwitter www.twitter.com/Litehousegalery\n\n.\n\n\n\n\nExhibition Information\n\n\n\n\n.\n\nExhibition\n\n\n\n\n\nVelvet Society – المجتمع المخملي: Power and Glamour in 90s Damascus\n\n\n\n\n\n.\n\nPresented by\n\n\n\n\n\nLitehouse Gallery\n\n\n\n\n\nwww.litehousegallery.co.uk\n\n\n\n\n\n.\n\nVenue\n\n\n\n\n\nP21 Gallery (Kings Cross)\n\n\n\n\n\n21-27 Chalton Street\, London NW1 1JD\, UK\n\n\n\n\n\nwww.p21.gallery\n\n\n\n\n\n.\n\nDates\n\n\n\n\n\n23rd June – 23rd July\n\n\n\n\n\n.\n\nOpening Hours\n\n\n\n\n\nTuesday\, Thursday & Friday: 12 – 6pm\n\n\n\n\n\nWednesday: 12 – 8pm\n\n\n\n\n\nSaturday: 12 – 4pm\n\n\n\n\n\n.\n\nEntry is free. No appointment necessary. SUMMARY:BLEUR STUDIO SESSION: MEDITATIVE ABSTRACT ART // ARTIST: BLANDINE BARDEAU
DESCRIPTION:Join multi-disciplinary artist Blandine Bardeau to explore abstraction and meditation and create a series of collage works. \nAbout this event:\nCome explore your own creativity and the joy of making abstract art through playful experimentations of drawing\, painting and making collages in a small and intimate setting. Most of us are terrified of making a mistake\, doing the «wrong thing» and adult life often feels so serious. This session is about freedom\, letting go of our fears\, and connecting to a part of us that we don’t usually allow to come out in our busy daily lives. \nAs an indie art gallery\, we believe in art as a lived experience of the many. Pioneering new ways of making art accessible in a post-covid landscape\, we are proud to launch our Bleur Takeovers series\, partnering with carefully selected venues across London to bring art closer to the people and support our artists. This Spring\, we are thrilled to team up with the brilliant guys at Little Louie in Elephant Park: café by day\, wine and cocktail bar by night. From mindfulness drawing to freestyle embroidery\, join our talented collective of artists for weekly creative sessions every Wednesday evening from 7-9pm. You’ll be immersing yourself in cutting edge art explorations while socialising with your favourite drink — what’s not to like? Tickets will sell fast so make sure to grab yours! \nPrice includes all materials needed for the session and a drink voucher to redeem at the bar. Ticket sales go straight to supporting our artists. \nAbout the artist:\nBlandine Bardeau is a French born multi-disciplinary artist whose work is a playful exploration of the boundaries between the figurative and the abstract. Her feminine lines and intuitive experimentations has won her recognition early on in her career including winning the Louis Vuitton Bag Design Competition at Central Saint Martins and being featured in several publications. \nAs with all creative experimentations\, things can get a bit messy so make sure you wear old clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on. Open to anyone\, no previous experience required. \nLittle Louie is located on the ground floor and is accessible to visitors with reduced mobility. If you have any queries regarding accessibility\, please get in touch with us. \nWe may capture some content during the session. By registering for the event you confirm that you are happy for us to use this content for our distribution channels.

SUMMARY:ROSL Art Talk: Muse by Ruth Millington + Book Launch
DESCRIPTION:The Making of Muse \nMeet Editor Mireille Harper\, Illustrator Dina Razin and Author Ruth Millington as they discuss the story behind Muse (2022\, Vintage Publishing). From selecting the muses to illustrating each of them\, discover how Muse collaborated from start to finish. \nThe perception of the muse is that of a passive\, powerless model\, at the mercy of an influential and older artist. But is this trope a romanticised myth? Far from posing silently\, muses have brought emotional support\, intellectual energy\, career-changing creativity and practical help to artists. \nMuse tells the true stories of the incredible muses who have inspired art history’s masterpieces. From Leonardo da Vinci’s studio to the covers of Vogue\, art historian\, critic\, and writer Ruth Millington uncovers the remarkable role of muses in some of art history’s most well-known and significant works. Delving into the real-life relationships that models have held with the artists who immortalised them\, it will expose the influential and active part they have played and deconstruct reductive stereotypes\, reframing the muse as a momentous and empowered agent of art history. \nThis event is in partnership with Square Peg and Vintage Publishing. \nPreorder a copy of Muse (10% off RRP\, £14.99) signed by the author Ruth Millington and illustrator Dina Razin when you buy your event + book ticket – this can be collected upon arrival. \nImage Credit 1: Muse (2022\, Vintage Publishing) book cover illustration by Dina Razin \nThis event is hosted as part of ROSL ARTS Muse series:\nMuse: The Exhibition\, in partnership with Square Peg\, Vintage Publishing and Sotheby’s Institute of Art\nMuse by Ruth Millington is published by Vintage Publishing (07/04/22)

SUMMARY:呼吸 Hūxī Respiration Art Exhibition and Live Performances
DESCRIPTION:After several years of a world pandemic\, where has your breath has taken you? Is it a form of escapism\, a little breathing space to relax\, get out of your own head and pursue a mindful experience? How important is it to performative phrases that express tension? \nBreath is a discrepant engagement across passageways and afterlives\, for to respire is an opening for life and death and the exquisite possibility of escape. \nTo mark the start of a new lunar year\, Goldsmiths Confucius Institute will be hosting an intriguing new art exhibition exploring respiration in relation to the Chinese characters 呼吸 Hūxī. \nIntermittent live performances will be taking place throughout the duration of the exhibition and Covid-friendly refreshments will also be available to take home. \nThis exhibition will present a variety of mediums (including but not limited to experimental videography\, photography\, painting\, sculpture\, physical installation and textile) from a range of contemporary artists\, including external artists as well as Goldsmith’s Art\, Music\, Design and Theatre and Performance students\, and will investigate the importance of respiration in creative practice and the challenges of being resistant. \nInhale and exhale are seen as opposites and equals at the same time\, influx-and-efflux marks how’s movements oscillate between porous extremities and radiating interiorities. The dynamic impulses happening across linguistic patterns. \n呼吸 has resonances with the experience of being simultaneously inside and outside the scene of respiration\, both shifts recalibrate the self\, the other\, the properties and subjects involved with them. Like an otherwise arranged by syntactical reinvention\, or the influx-and-efflux of words across sentences\, waves\, and worlds\, 呼吸 is a sonic entanglement. It is a call and response beckoned by ideological impulse\, political determination\, and social sound that travels across disparate life forces. \n呼吸 Hūxī – Respiration \n11th February – Great Hall\, Goldsmiths\nAfternoon Session: 4pm – 5.30pm\nEvening Session: 6pm – 7.30pm \n12th February – Great Hall\, Goldsmiths\nEvening Session 6pm – 7.30pm \n13th February – Great Hall\, Goldsmiths\n6pm – 7.30pm – Great Hall\, Goldsmiths \nCovid Regulations\nParticipants are encouraged to take a lateral flow test prior to arrival\, required to wear a mask throughout the exhibition and maintain social distancing and relevant health and safety regulations. \nThis is event is free for Goldsmiths staff and students and £5 for non-staff/students. SUMMARY:MAPA Fine Art presents: ‘Still @live’ Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:MAPA Fine Art is a Nomadic art gallery with our next exhibition (Still @live) opening in London.\nAbout this event\nMAPA FINE ART IS PLEASED TO PRESENT STILL @LIVE\, A GROUP EXHIBITION FEATURING SIX EMERGING INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS WORKING WITHIN THE MEDIUM OF FIGURATIVE PAINTING. THEIR WORK SPEAKS TO THE HUMAN CONDITION IN THESE UNCERTAIN TIMES\, BUT ALSO COMMENTS ON OUR PRIVATE (AND TIMELESS) DESIRES\, SECRETS AND ANXIETIES. DIVIDED INTO TWO PARTS\, THE EXHIBITION MIRRORS THE PRESENT STATE OF THE WORLD BY TAKING PLACE ONLINE AT FIRST\, CONNECTING US THROUGH TECHNOLOGY\, AND EMERGING IN A PHYSICAL SPACE IN LONDON IN THE SPRING OF 2021. \nThe year 2021 might seem like the promise of a new beginning\, but will the mere addition of a number make our lives any better? The emotions we experienced last year and our collective yearning for change throughout the pandemic have become integral parts of who we are. It seems that what has emerged from multiple lockdowns and widespread isolation\, is a globally shared experience of solitude. \nThis unexpected commonality\, a collective cluster of emotions\, is resonating even in the virtual space. Though physically separated\, we are still here\, and art remains one of the fundamental ways we can investigate our inner states and relate to each other. The expressive language of the works in this exhibition can serve as a guide on an introspective journey\, to a higher sense of unity which can be fully experienced once we can finally meet again in physical places. \nCurators: Jindra Bucan & Marc Prats

SUMMARY:Shadowlight Artists: Luminous exhibition - Online Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Click on the website URL to enter the virtual gallery showing Luminous\, the latest exhibition by the Shadowlight Artists. The Shadowlight Artists are a group of seven artists with learning disabilities based in Oxfordshire and supported by arts charity Film Oxford: Wendy Belcher\, Tom Breach\, Mark Hemsworth\, Russell Highsmith\, Richard Hunt\, Lucy Skuce and Danny Smith. The Shadowlight Artists’ films from the exhibition will also be screened at a special event on 5 December at 3pm at the Together! 2020 Disability Film Festival where they are regular contributors. \nThe exhibition is diverse in media and subjects\, and features painting\, photography\, animation\, dance\, artist films and sculptural installation. The works explore ideas such as personal relationships with the landscape\, bullying and historical portraiture. Other work draws on a huge range of emotions from joy to sorrow\, humour to exasperation. All of the work represents honest responses to the day-to-day world from this unique group of artists. \nCommencing in late summer 2019\, Luminous has been defined by the lockdown\, as the Shadowlight Artists\, freelance professionals and Film Oxford were forced to find new and innovative ways to work collaboratively at a distance. They liaised with the artists’ family members and their support and care organisations to draw up individual plans\, so that the group’s production work could continue during the pandemic. \nThe body of work presented in the exhibition does not engage with the COVID-19 crisis directly\, but it is influenced by it due to the radically different working methods used to create the show. The enforced experiment in distanced artistic collaboration has opened up new possibilities for the future activities of the group\, offering a pathway towards artistic collaborations not limited by geographical separation\, and towards a greater potential for inclusion for Disabled artists if given sufficient resources. \nSome of the works will also be exhibited in two physical galleries in Oxford in early December\, Modern Art Oxford and Arts at the Old Fire Station\, dependent on lockdown conditions.

SUMMARY:Into Yonderland
DESCRIPTION:Dream-like\, colourful figures appear in theatrical and absurd scenes\, caught in an uneasy balance between the familiar and the strange\, the comedic and the uncanny. Often painted in a vibrant\, fairground colour palette\, the works invite the viewer into a world of illusion in which the more macabre aspects are revealed as the scene unfolds before the gaze. \nFor his first solo exhibition at Kristin Hjellegjerde London\, British artist Lee Simmonds presents Into Yonderland\, a playground of painting where each canvas offers a gateway into a new realm of possibility in terms of colour\, content and character.
