SUMMARY:Edible Cinema: The Red Shoes
DESCRIPTION:Edible Cinema is a creative initiative organised by renowned unsual event specialist\, Polly Betton\, in partnership with experimental chefs Blanch & Shock\, and mixologists from Conker Spirit and Fentimans for this very special screening. Turning a night at the cinema into a\nmemorable event\, Edible Cinema has been described by Vogue as ‘gastronomic theatre’ and ‘the ultimate marriage of film and food’ by Time Out. \nThe experience promises to harness the power of taste\, smell and texture to enhance the cinematic experience. Each guest is supplied with a tray of numbered ‘mystery boxes’ \, containing a bite-sized tasting menu corresponding to scenes in the film\, and a carefully matched welcome drink. A signal indicates what should be opened and enjoyed\, when. \nExpect ‘a gastronomic whirlwind\, from the taste of that first breath of fresh sea air on the French Riviera to a mouthful of fluffy\, soft Prima Ballerina’s tutu and the rich\, smoky bitterness of a cigar stubbed out in fury’. Edible Cinema menus focus less on literal interpretations of food shown on screen\, and more on environment\, dialogue and the overall feeling.

SUMMARY:Oberon White: winegod - Premiere
DESCRIPTION:Multidisciplinary performance & contemporary queer ritual \n…The deification of what cannot be said\,\nThe familial wound\,\nThe hole in the head\,\nThe tunnel\, in the hollow\, in the hole\, in the gap\,\nThe following back to tangled spools of thread… \nQueer performance artist Oberon White presents a contemporary ritual to the ancient world’s suppressed queer deity. The Roarer\, The Liberator\, The God Who Comes\, just some of the epithets of one of humanity’s most potent archetypes\, Dionysos. Dionysos is the ultimate liminal god\, transcending borders between nations\, genders\, even life and death. \nThrough a language of experimental electronic music\, virtuosic vocals and original text\, audiences are invited to share in a communal experience. winegod sheds light on the ancientness of queer identity and explores our unity as living fleshy beings on an increasingly fragile globe. winegod is an invitation to engage with ecstasy\, epiphany and liberation. \nBull\, you jumped into milk.\nRam\, you fell into milk.\nYou have wine as your blessed honour\nAnd below the earth there await you the same rituals as the other blessed ones.’\n– Gold Burial Leaf\, Pelinna in Thessaly\, late fourth century BC \nExcerpts of winegod have been shown throughout its development at: CFS Soho\, The Glory\, Cafe Cairo\, VFD\, SPACE gallery Hackney\, DIY Space for London\, Cube Microplex\, Dalston Superstore \nFor past work: \n‘I have never seen anything like it’ ★★★★\n– This Is Cabaret\n‘A masterclass in precision and his craft is phenomenal.’\n– Scotsgay\n‘Interesting as Hell’\n– Londoncitynights \nOberon White is a queer\, Welsh performance artist\, musician and cabaret performer. A feral child of different arts practices they metamorphose between the roles of shaman\, drag artist\, clown\, as well as classical and experimental musician. They perform in venues and festivals for live art\, queer cabaret\, experimental theatre and music in the UK and abroad. Oberon White is a graduate of Trinity Laban Conservatoire and current Roundhouse Resident Artist.

SUMMARY:#ConcertLab: The Sound Within
DESCRIPTION:Roam through an orchestra as it plays\, immersing yourself within a symphony. \nWith Southbank Sinfonia’s musicians scattered across the room\, wander between instruments to gain new sonic perspectives and experience an orchestra in an entirely new way. \nAlongside this\, spatial sound and British Sign Language interpretation will help to take you inside the mind of Beethoven as his hearing vanished\, leaving a man teetering on the precipice of either genius or self-destruction. Voiced by Anton Lesser (Wolf Hall\, Game of Thrones\, The Crown)\, Beethoven’s volatile character mirrors his ‘Eroica’ Symphony\, paving the way for revolution. \n \nAfter the main performance\, an after-party with full bar will stay open until late\, with more live music for entertainment. \nAUDIENCE REVIEWS FOR PREVIOUS #CONCERTLAB PERFORMANCES:\n“Simply one of the best classical concerts I have seen\, and certainly the most innovative.” \n“Honestly\, I can’t remember the last time I felt so exhilarated and moved by any performance. Really spellbinding.” \n“Completely brilliant. Can’t stop thinking about it\, and very much wish you were doing it all again – because I’d definitely come and bring others with me.” \n   Click for the picture for Lessons!

SUMMARY:Habitus
DESCRIPTION:A new interactive\, close-proximity performance which explores the nuances of modern intimacy. \nInspired by Lauren Berlant’s scholarship\, Intricate Theatre’s debut production Habitus is a provocative enquiry into our collective appreciation of what intimacy is\, and where it might be found. Are GP appointments intimate? Can we have an intimate relationship with lipstick? Can real intimacy be established between performer and audience member? What is ‘real’ intimacy? \nIntricate Theatre is formed of three Theatre and Performance students who aim to open conversations and broaden audience’s perceptions of everyday experiences by exploring them in theatrical contexts. Using their backgrounds in performance research and their talents in drama\, dance and music\, they strive to create bold\, thoughtful and joyous work. \nYou are invited to join them at their first work-in-progress production where you are encouraged to drink\, laugh\, sing and open yourselves up to the potential of establishing real intimacy.

SUMMARY:Adjust the Procedure
DESCRIPTION:Spin Cycle in association with JCS Theater Company presents The World Premiere of ADJUST THE PROCEDURE\, a new play by Jake Shore (The Devil Is On The Loose With An Axe In Marshalltown\, Holy Moly\, and Down The Mountain And Across The Stream) conceived during the pandemic and created with Zoom theater in mind. It’s early Fall 2020 and the pandemic consumes a Manhattan university. In addition to tracking rising cases of COVID on campus\, the school’s administrators face immigration problems\, suicide threats\, and professors losing their minds. But in the midst of all the madness\, it’s the internal bureaucratic battles that threaten the school’s preservation. \nOver the course of two conflict-ridden Zoom meetings\, ADJUST THE PROCEDURE gives audiences a rare peek into the business of higher education at a moment of multiple reckonings. “A couldn’t-be-more-timely play.” — Derek McCracken\, BroadwayWorld “As this play questions whether it is easier to ADJUST THE PROCEDURE or adjust reality\, it forcefully reminds us ‘When someone dies\, there are consequences.’ \nA timely play for troubled times. Well worth watching.” — Laurie Lawson\, Electronic Link Journey “Smartly tailored to its theme and era\, and the direction and delivery of its thought-provoking narrative pack a punch and leave us wondering what really drives our educational system and who benefits the most from it.” — Deb Miller\, DC Metro Theater Arts Written and directed by Jake Shore\, ADJUST THE PROCEDURE stars Ed Altman\, Adam Files\, Meagan Moses\, and Nicholas Miles Newton.

SUMMARY:A Society (for the Cutting Up of Men)
DESCRIPTION:A SOCIETY (FOR THE CUTTING UP OF MEN) is a frenetic mashup of satirical texts about what the world would look like without patriarchy. An unconventional partnership of Virginia Woolf and Valerie Solanas\, like going to your Oxford friend’s dinner party and then your Dalston friend’s underground rave on the same night. Think wit\, then think spit. Think liberation\, then detonation. If you’ve ever dreamed with your friends about queer utopia\, wondered why we haven’t yet abolished the work-money system\, or simply just desired a room of one’s own\, then this one’s for you.

SUMMARY:HEXENHAMMER at VAULT Festival
DESCRIPTION:HEXENHAMMER was shortlisted for the Untapped Award 2022 and is directed by Complicité Associate Catherine Alexander. It’s a darkly comedic and totally devised piece about violent misogyny and the online ‘Manosphere’\, from the early witch hunts to Reddit chatrooms. \n\n\n\nHEXENHAMMER is loosely based on The Hammer of Witches\, the 15th-century guide towitch hunting. Written by two Dominican monks\, it kick-started the European witch craze andwas partly responsible for the murder of tens of thousands of women over the next fewhundred years. \n\n\n\nIncorporating text taken directly from Die Hexenhammer and verbatim text found onlineincel forums\, HEXENHAMMER explores how men end up killing women as a way to solvetheir own problems\, and why that hasn’t changed in the past 500 years. \n\n\n\n“Sometimes a piece of theatre really nails it. Hexenhammer is a wittywild ride on the misogyny train\, from the 15th c monks who sparkedthe witch hunts to today’s incel culture (via Jordan Peterson’slobster). Can’t wait to see what’s next.”– Gabriel Gatehouse\, creator and host of the BBC podcast “TheComing Storm” \n\n\n\nSecretariat is a writing and performance duo consisting of Suzy Kohane (The Secret Life OfHumans\, NDT) and Sidsel Rostrup (Close To Me\, Channel 4).We use comedy to open up political issues and get to the people beneath them. We arefocused on how technology impacts intimate relationships\, how outsiders become insiders\,and use clowning as a way of interrogating interpersonal dynamics. \n\n\n\nShows: Friday\, February 10th @ 10:40pm and Saturday\, February 11th @ 4:10pm and 10:10pm\n\n\n\n\nVenue: The Studio\, The Vaults\, Leake Street\, London\, SE1 7NN\nhttps://vaultfestival.com/performances/hexenhammer/\nTwitter: @Secretariat_Lndn

SUMMARY:This Is The Land
DESCRIPTION:What exists in the ‘thin places’ where the distance between the living and the non-living is blurred? \n\n\n\nA symphony of stories resound from the land… \n\n\n\nTranscending narrative\, stories seep from the earth’s sediments\, affirming the unsettling feeling of a presence existing where logically it should not. Five shapeshifting figures navigate their arrival. Evoking a compelling cycle of the Seasons. Spring/Beginning: rebirth and resilience. Summer/Freedom: memory and desire. Autumn/Resistance: trespass and dispossession. Winter/Survival: journeying and hope. This Is The Land could not be more relevant to the issues of our times – ecological crisis\, social inequality\, and political repression of dissenting voices – whilst raising these in a highly original way. \n\n\n\nThis Is The Land’s stripped-back abstract-expressionist style is highly visual\, visceral\, and physical. The performance resists narrative through its ‘mash-up’ style of fragmentary images\, compelling movement and dance\, atmospheric soundtrack and live-vocal looping.

DESCRIPTION:‘I don’t remember where I am when I decide to walk. Maybe the idea creeps up on me over time – born somewhere within me the first time I saw the sea. \n\n\n\nLike osmosis\, the thought it soaks into my skin and lies in wait until I cry it out as a single teardrop. Glistening\, shimmering\, and whole – it falls out of my subconscious and into my knowledge. \n\n\n\nThe know\, the knowing\, that I need to walk.’ \n\n\n\nRIGHT OF WAY is a response to writer Beth Bowden’s experience of becoming a Young Carer. It follows a young woman walking the South West Coast path\, documenting her journey of 100+ miles in the face of grief & exhaustion. It is a reflection on bodies\, chronic illness\, loss and joy. Using innovative multimedia projection and exploring natural materials and movement\, this new play aims to kickstart conversations about disability and chronic illness. \n\n\n\nDATES \n\n\n\n21st – 24th February\, 20:00 \n\n\n\n25th – 26th February\, 19:30 \n\n\n\n26th February\, 16:40 \n\n\n\nLOCATION \n\n\n\nThe Cage\, The Vaults\, Leake Street\, London SE1 7NN \n\n\n\nTICKETS \n\n\n\nTickets available from £13.50 via https://vaultfestival.com/performances/right-of-way/

SUMMARY:Happy Deathday
DESCRIPTION:A genuine exploration of “It doesn’t matter\, one day I’ll be dead. Or does it?” will lead us to hilarious deathly shower thoughts\, as well as the simple biology versus the complex poetry of death. Let’s look at diverse rituals from cultures all over the world\, the sustainability and transparency developments of the funeral industry\, and the history that got us where we are! \nThis show was inspired by personal issues with a lack of end of life planning\, and death being a taboo topic many of us are so desperate to talk about. Because one thing is for sure\, we all die eventually\, there is (currently) no way around it\, so let’s talk about it.

SUMMARY:Instructions on How to Cry
DESCRIPTION:“A woman who can’t cry. I assure you\, there is nothing to fear.” \n\n\n\nInstructions on How to Cry is a new devised comedy play exploring the science and mystery of emotional tears which appear to be solely present in Homo Sapiens. Mixing clowning\, physical comedy and atmospheric live music\, the show invites audiences to have fun and celebrate theatre. At the heart of the performance lies a simple question: why do humans cry? \n\n\n\nA show filled with fun clowning and music. Devised and loosely inspired by Argentine Julio Cortázar’s surrealist work as well as scientific research on crying. \n\n\n\n“So funny and silly and beautiful and utterly un-British. Full of genius. Three splendid performers”. David Greig.

SUMMARY:What the dog said to the harvest
DESCRIPTION:A groundbreaking call for climate justice drawing on opera\, dance\, spoken word\, immersive sound and film. \n\n\n\nThis isn’t a story about plastic straws or bags for life; this is the tale of how we got here. This is what the dog said to the harvest. \n\n\n\nTracing 400 years across multiple narratives\, we confront the era of human displacement. \n\n\n\nCombining the immediacy of live performance and the intimacy of installation\, what the dog said to the harvest is an invitation to solidarity\, highlighting the ripple effect of Western-centric behaviours on silenced communities and drawing on stories from across the UK\, Lebanon and Syria. \n\n\n\nLisa Minerva Luxx weaves poetry\, fiction and memoir alongside critiques of Europe’s foundational philosophies. The inclusion of verbatim illustrates how the climate crisis has long since arrived for Middle Eastern communities and the Global South and leaves us asking how we can build towards a more progressive future across borders. \n\n\n\nJasmin kent rodgman’s installation and score blend sound art\, contemporary x electronic music featuring field recordings\, vocals\, electric guitar\, synths and percussion\, experienced via live performance and 360° surround sound. \n\n\n\nThe work is an immersive promenade experience. Audience members will be free to move around the space as the work unfolds amongst and around them. \n\n\n\nPost-show Q&A with creators on Sunday\, 25 June\, after the 7 pm show.
