He combines soulfulness and advanced technique with a panache that’s nearly unrivalled among today’s guitarists. Bishop strums spiritual with incantatory ragas\, free-folk excursions\, crystalline flamenco flourishes\, ruddy Appalachian folk\, Middle Eastern-tinged fantasias and gypsy arabesques. This is eclecticism done with respect and third-eye-dilating filigree; his compositions attain a sepia-toned wistfulness and a psychedelic complexity. \nBishop’s first solo record\, ‘Salvador Kali’\, was released by John Fahey’s esteemed Revenant Records label in 1998. Locust Music issued his second record\, ‘Improvika’ (2004)\, which consisted of nine extemporaneous pieces for solo acoustic guitar. More recently\, ‘Tangier Sessions’ was released by Drag City in 2015. It consists of a series of improvisations recorded in Tangier\, Morocco in 2014 using a 19th-century parlour guitar of mysterious origin. Bishop’s latest album\, ‘Hillbilly Ragas ‘was released last September to widespread acclaim\, whilst Drag City are currently prepping new title ‘Hillbilly Erotica’ as a speculative\, avant-garde sequel to his stripped-back acoustic explorations. \nhttps://sirrichardbishop.com/ \nARIANNE CHURCHMAN & BENEDICT DREW are visual artists and musicians. Based in London and Kent\, their work together draws from English traditional music\, minimalism\, music concrete and electronic music. Using analogue synthesisers\, acoustic instruments and layered vocals\, their work starts with traditional song\, with its lyrics corrupted and reimagined; it is then woven into sonic collages and landscapes\, each layer spiralling out a little further from the last\, building into ecstatic melodies\, rhythms and dreamscapes. Since 2020 they have recorded a selection of traditional May songs to coincide with May Day\, releasing them digitally through Drew’s Thanet Tape Centre label. He’s been called a “psych rock lifer” (UNCUT)\, crafting “digressive jams that meander through free-form jazz\, bluesy kosmische” (PROG) and “extremely highgrade psych” (MOJO). Originally from Sunderland\, she first emerged in the UK underground in bands including Saloon\, The Eighteenth Day of May\, and more recently\, The Left Outsides before beginning her solo career in 2018. Her debut\, All Is Quiet at the Ancient Theatre introduced her long-form\, place-inspired approach to composition. This was followed with Only Darkness Now and The Portrait You Painted of Me\, both acclaimed for their immersive atmospheres and emotional depth. All three albums appeared in The Quietus’ End of Year lists\, with Only Darkness Now topping their New Weird Britain chart and The Portrait You Painted of Me was also Folk Record of the Month in The Guardian. \nIn 2024\, Cotton released Engelchen\, a work inspired by the lives of Ida and Louise Cook and their efforts to help refugees escape Nazi Germany. The album deepened her interest in narrative composition\, blending historical research with her distinctive drone-based sound. Her records have been released by Rocket Recordings\, Feeding Tube Records\, Cardinal Fuzz\, Bloxham Tapes and Clay Pipe Music. Cotton continues to explore drone\, experimental folk\, and narrative forms\, establishing herself as a singular voice in contemporary experimental music. For this show Cotton will be playing music from a new album and will be accompanied by Mark Nicholas on percussion\, harmonium and synths. \nECKA MORDECAI is an artist based in London. Situated between sonic\, performative and olfactory disciplines\, her work is driven by sensation: entwining cello\, horsehair harp\, voice\, eggflute\, scent and improvisation into time-based objects expressive of emotional complexity.

September 2025’s self-titled EP was the perfect introduction to the No Peeling universe. Bandcamp Daily picked it as an Essential Release\, calling it “a clanging collection of get-in-get-out egg punk that doesn’t ask for more than 10 minutes of your time and overdelivers on every front”. It managed to cram a lifetime of idea-nuggets into seven songs that rarely exceeded the minute mark. A blast of enthusiasm and hyperactivity\, the EP was the audio equivalent of a barrage firework: exhilarating and energising. Whilst the first EP was completed before the band had played live; the forthcoming EP2 hits a little differently. \nEP2 has the garage punk clatter and sparkly efficiency of their debut but is somehow faster and weirder. The guitar and synth seem to be engaged in a constant (playful) fight\, tumbling further and further away from the song structure being held together (and propelled) by one of the tightest rhythm sections around. The scrawl and skronk might occasionally recall No Wave but those grooves are locked down. This all provides the perfect foundation for the wry\, dry observations of Sophie Diver. While that eight-year gap might not seem like a ton of time on the cosmic scale\, it nonetheless represents a busy half-decade plus for Orcutt projects: a raft of improv collaborations\, an acclaimed run of chopped and looped albums on Fake Estates\, and the collision of Orcutt’s computer and guitar music on Music For Four Guitars and last year’s How to Rescue Things\, both on Palilalia. The undeniable alchemy of those latter mashups inspired not only a wider appreciation of Orcutt-as-composer\, but also the resurrection of Orcutt-as-bandleader\, as the Bill Orcutt Quartet hit the road in support of Four Guitars\, Orcutt’s first work with a proper score. ‘Another Perfect Day’ sees Orcutt building tension with short phrases\, repeated with slight variability until it seems like they’ll never stop\, finally slamming into a fresh line like the dawning valley at the crest of the mountain pass. Inspired by Antonin Artaud\, he aimed for the theatre\, but an encounter with The Doors stimulated him into music\, where he has examined and absorbed a wide range of expressions from the early blues\, especially Blind Lemon Jefferson\, or European medieval music\, to popular songs across the world.  In 1970\, he joined a group\, Lost Aaraaf\, named after Edgar Allan Poe’s poem\, as a vocalist. Meanwhile\, he started to work on home recordings and learned the guitar and percussion autodidactically. In 1978\, Haino formed a rock band Fushitsusha\, and since 1988\, after a recuperation period from 1983 to 1987\, he has been internationally active in various forms including solo\, groups such as Fushitsusha\, Nijiumu\, Aihiyo\, Vajra\, Sanhedrin\, Seijaku\, Nazoranai or The Hardy Rocks and DJ as “experimental mixture\,” as well as in collaboration with artists from different backgrounds\, drawing the performance of the guitar\, percussion\, hurdy gurdy\, string instruments\, wind instruments\, local instruments from across the world and DJ gears to the extreme through idiosyncratic techniques. Haino has released more than 200 recordings and performed live at least 2\,000 times. \nIn March 2026\, Japan\, Haino will present two exclusive performances in Europe on polygonola\, a metal-flat polygonal instrument\, based on the 2nd dimensional vibration theory\, built by Naoki Skura. Rattle have honed the four songs that make up ‘Encircle’ by playing them live over the last few years\, adapting and stretching them into endlessly inventive new shapes\, playing with the concept of time and expectation. With ‘Encircle’ Rattle have grown\, writing songs alive with elemental power. They build-up and disintegrate\, existing in two places at once\, embracing the nuance\, tracing the circle’s edge. These are modes of song as pure gesture and eternal imagination\, refined in mirrors after midnight. It brings the songs alive and it is a fascinating language. The name of the record is in Scots – Forefowk means the people who came before\, or ancestors. When we say ‘mind me\,’ we can mean a few things- remind\, remember\, watch over or care for me. The record explores how tradition needs to be constantly reconnected with\, built upon\, looked after\, and shared.” To develop this record\, Quinie travelled across Argyll with her horse. Mary Currie is best known as half of touchstone DIY experimentalists Flaming Tunes\, alongside Gareth Williams (of This Heat). Currie also performed in Officer! with Mick Hobbs amongst others. For this performance Mary appears alongside her bandmates Alison Craig\, Marcus Holdaway\, Nick Haeffner and William Hayter\, as The PGs performing songs from their Flaming Tunes repertoire. \nhttps://flamingtunes.bandcamp.com/album/flaming-tunes \nDOG CHOCOLATE sound like a crowded room but are actually four individuals. Abandoning notions of elegance\, cred and professionalism they embrace the ramshackle\, instant and fun\, capturing a vivid spontaneity with their music. Phew was a founding member of the legendary Japanese punk band Aunt Sally. After the band’s breakup in 1979\, she continued her career as a solo artist\, releasing a collaborative single with Ryuichi Sakamoto in 1980\, and her first solo album\, ‘Phew’\, with Conny Plank\, Holger Czukay of CAN\, and Jaki Liebezeit in 1981. With a career spanning nearly fifteen years\, Steve has produced volumes of critically acclaimed solo\, duo\, and ensemble recordings on labels such as Matador Records\, Three Lobed Recordings\, Paradise of Bachelors\, and RVNG. His albums represent milestones of contemporary guitar-driven material\, and forward thinking songwriting. Steve has steadily processed his inspirations into a singular\, virtuosic stream. Close listening reveals the influence of blues\, folk\, ecstatic free jazz\, and psych in his continually unfolding output.\n‘Music for Writers’\, the first Gunn album under only his name since 2021\, takes those influences to a new level. It is an instrumental album (released this August by Three Lobed Recordings)\, based around guitar\, synths and more\, it leads the listener to tightly and deeply focus on minute changes and variations in style. It is a masterpiece in fragile\, small-scale world-building that occupies a unique space within Gunn’s wider discography.\nhttps://stevegunn.bandcamp.com/music \nJAMES ELKINGTON moved to the United States in the late ’90s from his native England with the intention of making himself absolutely essential to the Chicago music scene. Twenty years later he’s contributed to a staggering volume of records and shows and projects both in Chicagoland (see Jeff Tweedy; Tortoise; Eleventh Dream Day; Brokeback) and far from it (see Richard Thompson; Laetitia Sadier; Michael Chapman\, Steve Gunn\, Nap Eyes). The 2017 release of the wonderful ‘Wintres Woma’\, his first so-called solo album\, seemed to be a logical\, healthy respite from assisting with the creative needs of others that would allow him to serve his own. The record certainly sounded as though James found in it every reason to be satisfied – among much else\, it effectively reconciled his personal and musical mongreltude as a child of Britain and a man of America\, and thus could return his focus to bettering other folks’ records. He combines soulfulness and advanced technique with a panache that’s nearly unrivalled among today’s guitarists. Bishop strums spiritual with incantatory ragas\, free-folk excursions\, crystalline flamenco flourishes\, ruddy Appalachian folk\, Middle Eastern-tinged fantasias and gypsy arabesques. This is eclecticism done with respect and third-eye-dilating filigree; his compositions attain a sepia-toned wistfulness and a psychedelic complexity. \nBishop’s first solo record\, Salvador Kali\, was released by John Fahey’s esteemed Revenant Records label in 1998. Locust Music issued his second record\, Improvika (2004)\, which consisted of nine extemporaneous pieces for solo acoustic guitar. More recently Tangier Sessions\, was released by Drag City in 2015. He has recorded a number of sessions for BBC Radio 3. They are a Sydney-based band born from a curious seed\, the self taught project of artist Kata Szász-Komlós alongside Jasper Craig-Adams and Tom Stephens. Seemingly coming with an unmistakable charm and yearning. Mapping the band’s existence through their recorded output is to bear witness to the flux of three people learning to respond to one another and gently ossify into a collective vision. Early recordings reflect a band imagining themselves into being whilst new release\, A Profound Non-Event (Tough Love)\, observes a clear shift in conviction.\nhttps://dailytoll.bandcamp.com/ \nGUY BLACKMAN is a songwriter’s songwriter. His deftly constructed songs deal frankly with issues of love\, sexuality and commitment. The songs breathe in warmth and patience\, they are immediate and sweet. And then they start to meander. To address the weight of the world without speaking of weariness. To march the song to breathlessness but loosen your grip when the band wanders. To tell all your secrets but shield your loved ones from vulnerability. To dress up in the charm and temptation of the pop song but maintain a core of peculiarity\, of a single voice trying to navigate this world. This is the project of the Spatulas. Think of the few songwriters who know they’re the only ones in the world who could write their songs. The record is largely sung in Scots language\, one of Scotland’s three official languages along with Gaelic and English. “Scots gives me a way of expressing myself which is connected directly with the landscapes I love. It brings the songs alive and it is a fascinating language. The name of the record is in Scots – Forefowk means the people who came before\, or ancestors. When we say ‘mind me\,’ we can mean a few things- remind\, remember\, watch over or care for me. The record explores how tradition needs to be constantly reconnected with\, built upon\, looked after\, and shared.” \nQuinie sings with a style inspired by Scottish Traveller singers. “I began singing unaccompanied Scots Song in 2015 after hearing Scots Traveller singer Sheila Stewart on the radio. Over the years I have met Traveller friends who taught me that settled people sharing these songs could contribute to raising awareness. Scottish Travellers are marginalised and discriminated against in modern Scotland\, despite being custodians of so many of our important traditions. So I started to perform them and tell this story. From there I built on my repertoire and started writing my own songs”. \nTo develop this record\, Quinie travelled across Argyll with her Horse. They went on a pilgrimage of sorts through the ancient landscapes of the West of Scotland to explore the interconnected relationships between people\, ancestors\, animals\, and place. The album’s vinyl release is accompanied by a book and film\, documenting this unusual research process.  ‘Forefowk\, Mind Me’ was recorded in August 2024 at The Big Shed in Highland Perthshire with support from Creative Scotland. Quinie is accompanied by an ensemble of musicians: Ailbhe Nic Oireachtaigh (viola)\, Oliver Pitt (duduk\, bouzouki\, percussion)\, Harry Górski-Brown (small pipes\, violin)\, and Stevie Jones (double bass\, recording\, and mixing).
