SUMMARY:Lost Narratives: A Hidden World of Urbex Photography
DESCRIPTION:Join Atlas Obscura for a talk on urban exploration — Urbex — and what it takes to photograph abandoned buildings all over the world. \nUrban Exploration has always been a popular pastime to rule breakers and renegades\, but with the advent of social media\, especially Instagram\, there has been a new rise in its visibility. Once only available to those who were willing to risk the dangers of entering decaying structures\, modern technology has made it possible for photographers to share what’s inside ruins around the world with the world. Viewing this practice through the eyes of an expert will help us uncover more about the compulsion to go off the beaten track and share these discoveries. \nThe talk will be given by urban explorerer and photographer Claire Alaxandra Powell\, and she’ll discuss how keeping secrets within the urbex community helps preserve these structures for the future\, and the history behind the places she’s photographed all over Europe. Claire herself has been hunting for ruins for the past decade in England\, Germany\, Italy\, Vietnam\, Cambodia\, the United States\, and more\, and will bring this wealth of experience and knowledge to share. \nOur event will be hosted in the Asylum Chapel\, an 1824 chapel whose interior was ruined by an incendiary device during World War II. The interior\, almost entirely destroyed from the explosion\, remains in much the same state today.

SUMMARY:To the Edge of the World and back to their Roots
DESCRIPTION:To the Edge of the World and back to their Roots is the story of a creative journey conceived in London and developed around the globe. A fashion and art exhibition by a young creative couple – Andrea Vytlačilová\, fashion designer\, and visual artist Josef Zlamal – tackling the quest for identity through a creative voyage. \nAfter Creating a winning outfit for Grayson Perry in June 2018\, Andrea Vytlačilová left London to explore the fashion industry working for Acne Studios\, Marc Jacobs and Kenzo fashion houses. Josef Zlamal joined her on the voyage and the duo began creating a body of work as visual mementos of the time spent abroad and of the experiences they were exposed to whilst living and working in Sweden\, the USA and France\, their relocation back to London and their reconnection with their Czech and European identities. \nAdmission to the exhibition is free\, but entry must be booked in advance: https://bit.ly/ToTheEdge_EventbriteSlots\nOne ticket is valid for a maximum of 5 people from the same household. \nAndrea Vytlačilová (*1996)\nAndrea Vytlačilová is a young fashion designer and Central Saint Martins student\, born in Eastern Bohemia\, whose work moves between fashion\, textiles\, illustration and photography. She has worked for fashion houses including Acne Studios\, Marc Jacobs and Kenzo. Recently\, she was selected as one of Forbes Czechia’s 30 under30. Andrea is currently in her final year of studies\, working on her fashion collection and a multidisciplinary project called ‘My Bohemian Tale‘ rediscovering Czech cultural heritage and resurrecting the disappearing textile industry and traditional crafts.\nhttp://www.andreavytlacilova.com \nJosef Zlamal (*1983)\nJosef Zlamal\, born in Šternberk\, is among the most promising of contemporary Czech artists. His work has been exhibited in the company of both contemporary and classic masters (e.g. Otto Dix\, Lucas Cranach\, Daniel Richter and Marc Quinn)\, in private institutions and leading public museums (e.g. the Power Station of Art\, Shanghai and the Museum der bildenden Künste Leipzig). His paintings\, drawings\, sculptures and films confront the viewer with a world of uncertainty. He searches for light through darkness\, offering new perspectives on history and geopolitical issues connected with human existence.\nhttp://www.josef-zlamal.com \nCORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) Update\nWe follow our guideline principles and measures which are based on the UK government advice and regulations and which are regularly reviewed when government guidelines change. SUMMARY:Innovations for a Sustainable Future (AR Interactive Exhibition)
DESCRIPTION:PRIVATE VIEW: Thursday 6 October 2022\, 6 – 8 pm \nExhibition: 06 Oct 2022 – 02 Dec 2022\, Mon-Fri 10 am – 6pm \nFree entry\, registration necessary (more info on website\, see below) \nA brand new interactive exhibition touching on the fast-evolving digital revolution as well as the pressing challenges faced by our generation. \nBoth Europe and the world are undergoing a major technological transformation. New phenomena such as artificial intelligence are slowly making their way into all aspects of our lives\, from communication to health\, from culture to sustainability. What are the innovations and scientific discoveries shaping our future? \nThe Innovations for a Sustainable Future exhibition seeks to create a dialogue between science\, society\, culture and art. Its main aim is to address current global issues and the inevitable role science and new technologies will play in reaching the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set up by the United Nations in 2015 as a blueprint for a better\, more sustainable future for all. The 17 SDGs were adopted by all UN member states agreeing to work on\, among other things\, a plan to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger\, achieve gender equality and avert climate threats by 2030. \nThis interactive augmented reality exhibition was artistically rendered by the renowned Czech graphic designer Pavel Fuksa\, drawing from the concept of the successful Czech Innovation Expo which travelled the world presenting Czech scientific discoveries and innovations. The new London exhibition highlights innovations and issues on a European level\, reflecting the higher purpose of science with special emphasis on the means needed to implement the ambitious SGDs. \nHow the Exhibition Works \nVisitors will enter a seemingly empty room with only abstract symbols on the walls. After downloading the exhibition app (available free for Android and iOS)\, they will see the space around them come to life on their devices\, allowing them to explore in a fun and unique way a variety of scientific stories and fascinating information about technological innovations likely to shape our future. \nThe exhibition was created as a joint project of the Czech Centres and the Czech Technology Agency. It is part of the 2022 Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU Programme. \nThe London exhibition is organised  by the Czech Centre London and the European Parliament Liaison Office in the United Kingdom.

SUMMARY:Black Swans
DESCRIPTION:Foreign Affairs presents\n\n\n\n\n\nBlack Swans\nby Christina Kettering\nTranslated by Pauline Wick\nDirected by Ria Samartzi\n\n\n\n\n\nWould you trust a robot to take care of your elderly mother?\n\n\n\n\n\nTwo sisters face a difficult decision: how to best care for their elderly mother as her health declines. Rosie\, a humanoid care robot\, seems like the perfect solution. But soon\, they have to reckon with the unforeseen consequences of bringing artificial intelligence into their lives.\n\n\n\n\n\nBlack Swans explores the ethical and moral dilemmas of introducing AI into human caregiving\, offering a poignant (and often humorous) look at family dynamics\, societal norms and the pervasive influence of technology on our lives.\n\n\n\n\n\nChristina Kettering‘s award-winning play examines the intersection of AI\, healthcare and the challenges of caregiving through a female lens. It prompts questions about the boundaries of AI and the essence of compassion in our increasingly digital world.
